So...........

Im looking to buy a smart travel set for taking my horse out to shows but not sure which colour/s to go for. So all you peeps who turn up to shows looking all smartypants let me see your gear and give me some inspiration!! :D im looking for boots, rug, tail guard and headcollar/leadrope which would suit my chestnut girl :) x

I'd go for a smart leather headcoller in the colour of your tack, bottle green leadrope, bottle green and white fleece. In my dreams it'd be a thermatex but they're SO expensive :o and a set of bottle green and white travel boots.

But don't bother about the boots really. Just take them off in the trailer

Good luck!

mine is silver and black! (horse is bay)

black/silver striped fleece rug

black/silver travel boots (weatherbeta)

black headcollar/leadrope :)

no pics tho sadly :(

My Orange boy has Green and gold as his travel kit and showing gear, and my little grey pony has red and white. Both suit i reckon :)

My TB has blue amigo travel boots with matching lead rope (on a leather head collar) and tail bandages. He has 3 'travel' rugs of varying thickness's (which are all blue) that are used depending on the weather/clip etc.

Pony features has the Pink Amigo travel set as requested by Little Jockey!

Although she has travelled like this on a few occasions (with travel boots too) so she stays sparkly clean and doesn't ruin her plaits!

:p :D :D

Also no pics from me - to busy stressing when I transport the horses, wouldn't be able to co-ordinate enough to get around to taking pics.

My TBs travel with bridles so that they are easier to manage if there is a crisis of any kind. The travel boots go on before we load, and never come off until we're safely off-loaded and settled.... I've seen some nasty injuries with horses coming off the ramp.

Favourite colour: forest green.
Lovely pics from others here - 3beasties, very nice (and incredibly clean!) travel kit.

My NEW travel boots and a headcollar. In a rug if its cold/appropriate but even with windows open I find mine tends to get hot when travelling, esp with a friend. I don't have anything matching - just the boots and whatever rug if needed.

Its what comes out of the wagon thats important, not how its dressed imo :) (and for me thats a fat grey hippo ;) )

I just love the old fashion knee boots and hock boots gear

I really have a pet peeve with these new all in one travel boots as most dont protect the knee, if a horse goes down.

If most bend the knee in a position where it would be if a horse falls ie tight bent i bet most of the all in one knee boots would part at the front so your horse will hit the deck actually on his knee and rendering knee part useless.
people think just cos the knee is covered at a stand still its protected when a horse falls , its not :(

I have burgundy for everything and black leather head collar. However only wear the head collar as he usually sweats up in any rug while traveling and the boots just make him stressed!

This is my girly ready to party! Its the horseware ireland matching set and she wears a tail guard with the cover at the bottom so everything stays clean! She won't tolerate a poll guard over her ears but we have compromised with a thick piece of sheepskin!

Elsazzo,I have often thought what Leviathan said, that most front boots won't protect the knee if a horse goes down but google Bucas travel boots-they are quite different in design and would protect the knee. They are pricey(cheaper than an injury/vet bill tho!) & I will be getting a set when my current Mark Todd ones die! (Won't be long!)

havent seen those must admit when going on long or some journeys i put the knee boots on then the all in one boots double protection.

If you look at hendrabonnie's boots they dont go over the knee or hocks the back ones the bend in the boot for the hock is too low so when horse moves the hock is exposed thus no protection same with the knee ones I bet if you bent her knee or hocks you will find the hock/knee becomes unprotected this is not a dig at you just concern over the safety of her hock and knees:)

what i do with my boots sometimes is turn them upside down so there is a closed area over the knee

Exactly this :D It's the only time I can do matchy matchy :p
Don't have any pics of the full get up but here's her thermatex. Boots match it perfectly with the green/white binding. Shame I don't have a horsebox to go anywhere now:mad:

OP, I really liked the Bucas boots too, but couldn't justify them as mine fit her perfectly and are in really good nic.

BH ready to load (apart from to switch to a headcollar, he had to be loaded in his bridle in those days  )

Neither have shoes on so I prefer not to use boots etc as I think they just overheat then legs and make them hot and bothered and more likely to travel badly. Just MO though :o

My grey has the rambo striped grey fleece rug and brown leather head collar BUT i'm yet to use them as lack transport and have hacked to local shows and hunt meets!

I don't tend bother with boots or bandages these days, I might put some on if I've got something that tits about when loading. I only use rugs if it's cold and sometimes it's a good idea to put an extra rug on when the horse is standing around at a comp but take it off to travel as some horses can get a bit warm when traveling. My show rugs are a whitney wool day rug (gold stripe) a cotton jersey cooler (black bound white) and several string vest style sweat rugs, most white. I also have a couple of leather headcollars and tidy ropes for best.

One thing I will never travel a horse without is a tail bandage or guard.

My old horse, you can't see much of it but there's not much of it to see!

we used to put our front ones on back to front, now we don't bother with travel boots.

Brushing boots on front legs.
Black Head collar & pink leadrope
Either full neck navy wetherbeeta fleece or newmarket fleece, sometimes both depending on clip and weather.

I'm not too fussed about matching colours etc. Mine has blue travelling boots, a navy tailbandage and black tailguard. He wears his usual headcollar (if I had more money to spend i'd splash out on a leather one) and as he usually only travels in summer he tends to wear his sweet itch rug. In winter I'd travel him in a fleece (I do own the coveted thermatex rugs but I find they slip so only use them as underrugs now!)

Dizzy - Chestnut DWB: Coolex - pale grey with pink and white trim, with mine and her names emobroidered on either side (in pink with silver edging); Leather headcollar; pinkish lead rope; and purple Professional Choice medicine boots and over-reach boots. She hates travel boots - always stands on them and pulls them down no matter how well cut and fitted they are

Light blue fleece with his name on, navy blue travel boots and leather headcollar with two tone blue leadrope, we then go and ruin the look with a red tail bandage :D No pics sorry, we're usually too busy having a long discussion on the ramp about why he should load and him answering back with wavy front legs..

Another boring, practical person here. Headcollar, generic travel rug and over-reach boots and brushing boots all round.

I can't stand travel boots, to me they impede balance, over heat and are cumbersome. I can't think of anything less conducive to safety!

I disagree totally

safety is more important than overheating and cumbersome . and I dont believe they effect a horses balance enough not to warrant using them .
If horse falls kicks out gets leg through trailer they could save his legs .

take it from someone whose horse went through the trailer floor the only thing saved him as they were dragged along motorway was the fact he had travel boots on, without them she would have lost the horse

Like a poll guard I dont see enough horses wearing them . one knock on the head on the roof of box or trailer and that could be the end of your horse
