Snow

IMG_4587.jpeg

A decent few inches here as you can see

My car has decided at the grand old age of 12 1/2 that it doesn’t “do” snow anymore (suspect there is something wrong with it as I’ve never had any issues with getting it off the drive however deep the snow normally… whether it is something simple or something expensive & terminal time will tell. It’s had a few brief moments recently where it struggles for power for a second so suspect there’s something about to break). Had to borrow my Mum’s Aygo to get to work. Have been reminded why I never drive it (I feel like a little sardine as there really isn’t much space in there)

Not seen pony today as been at work… the most productive part of the day was digging everyone’s cars out that had been abandoned in works car park so we could all get home later 😂 (oh and I created some snowflakes out of vetwrap to stick on a patient’s bandage)

We had light bit of snow last night kept mine in from about 9pm and put them out at about 7.30am this morning and it was melting its now a balmy 13 degrees crazy bloody weather 🙄.

Still raining tonight and now my fields are under water and they were looking pretty dry last week 😔

How to you clip your Cavalier? Mavis gets so hot but I'm nervous about clipping her 😁

She is so hairy😆

South Yorkshire bottom of the pennines. Just got back from 7 mile round trip to the yard. 10pm last night was light rain 5am this morning and snowing 7:5 cm --3" but roads far worse than yesterday no gritter or snowplough, all schools have announced they are closed today all buses not running.

We should have been done with the snow here, but a fair more fell in the night. Manchester Airport has just closed both of its runways again.

Son no 2 is booked on an 8.40am flight from Manchester to Belfast for work. He’s currently at the airport and through security after a horrid drive in on the M6/M56. New departure time of 10.50.

Son no 2 reports:-

All the roads before the motorway were completely snowed over, motorway wasn’t too bad, but still had plenty of dickheads driving well too fast.

ETA All 3 local secondary schools have shut at short notice due to the snow. Can’t get enough staff in to safely open up.

ETA 2 Son safely arrived at Belfast office by 12.40pm.

Serious snow here in West Yorkshire.
It was windy yesterday so drifting and over the top of my wellies in places and now we’ve had a serious dump overnight.

Not too troublesome as I have the horses at home and work from home so don’t need to leave but my washing machine packed in before Christmas and today will be the third failed delivery of the new one as there’s no way they will get up our lane.

Fascinating reading about the snow, good to see photos or I wouldn’t believe it!
In SW Scotland we have had no snow and no rain, just a chilly wind. The ground is really good for riding and the fields aren’t muddy. We are bound to suffer once everyone else has good weather!
Am v envious!
We've had substantial rain, still raining, lakes in my fields, huge puddles on roads and rivers bursting banks, still raining till late morning apparently.

Crazy - I’m SE Scotland and we’ve had a couple of inches solid since the 1st.

It was snowing this morning when I woke up. All roads out of my village are now impassible due to flooding from rain yesterday, can't even get through in 4x4 due to abandoned cars blocking the road :(.

Our snow stayed until about 8pm yesterday when it started absolutely hammering it down and then everywhere started flooding. At some point the rain then turned to snow and wind with a good layer at 6.30 to turn back to rain by 7. Was horrible doing the horses in rain, wind, slush and ice this morning. Was very very glad of my dry robe.

We've had another good 3-4 " on top of what we had yesterday, so it's pretty bad out there.

Had a struggle bringing ponies in at 7am as the snow was so deep. Of course they were stood out in it rather than in the field shelter.

Bo's tail was frozen solid and full of snowballs bless him.

No water here as the heavy snow has caused an issue at the pumping station. 😒

Photos: 7am on the back yard/view from the patio doors.

Our yard has just as much snow this morning as yesterday morning, despite a thaw and pjenty ifcrain yesterday afternoon/evening, although piled up in different places because the wind moved round.
I have an Ocado delivery booked and have had a message apologising for being 40 mins late. I'm not certain they will get through though.

It's really strange here, it did rain on top of the snow last night, but the snow is still here, however when you get up close its just white slush but holding it's shape?
OH just been up the track on the quad, when he got to the lane he said the slush had been pushed to the middle by neighbours 4x4s and was so high he wouldn't be able to get through in his 208
I think it is melting but slowly

I've just walked onto the end of the lane, one neighbour has dug out his parking space in case his father's carers can get through but there really isn't much chance of that as the snow has drifted at the bottom of the road, which is never cleared anyway. I don't think we will be able to get out to meet the delivery, either. At least there's nothing falling now and the snow does seem to be softening slowly.

Still no snow here in West Wales but has been windy and wet . Stopped raining now but everywhere is saturated.
Forecast is for a drier spell .We can buy hope!!!!!?

Yep, another overnight shedload, still puffs of snow and a really sharp wind now.
dug out stables and field gate this morning, decided easier to throw in bales of straw than create corridor to the muck heap, so we’re going high rise....
Time to break out the Fal Goliaths! If nothing else, I’ll wear them round the house until things cheer up.
Seen what’s happening east coast USA??!!

I hope your Ocado order reached you, better late than never. I bet its a miserable day to be a delivery driver today. Tesco cancelled on a friend locally, the village isn't accessible at all but I'm not sure Tesco would have known that earlier so clearly problems further afield. I tried to get into work, gave up and turned round.

Snow has just about gone here, I'm very surprised the amount of rain that fell overnight hadn't washed it away by this morning though.

No sign of Ocado yet, message still saying 1 hour late, although delivery is now 2 hours late. We can't get out in the 4x4s, so I'm not expecting the delivery to get through tbh. I would just like a message to let me know what is happening. I am cross with myself for not changing the delivery date, when it was raining yesterday.

Crikey, the local town FB page had to shut down comments on the page that listed today’s school closures which included the town’s two secondary schools 😳.

Apparently the teachers were getting an absolute bashing ☹️.

The schools couldn’t get enough staff in to safely open. Staff often travel in from much further away than the kids, but the keyboard warriors got stuck in anyway. The parents wanted the schools to operate like a giant crèche so that they could get on with their day unhindered by child care arrangements.

Roads are still flooded here. OH borrowed my 4X4 to go to the local village surgery for a routine jab as my car has a much greater wading depth than his. He was followed out of the village by a small van which stopped behind him to watch the Shogun negotiate one of the floods. The driver evidently decided that his vehicle wasn’t up to it and turned round.
