J_sarahd which show was it? I've had the same where i've turned up and had multiple refusals and i've done exactly what was suggested above, drop back down a level and get my both our confidence back. Buzz really relies on me being confident to get over the jumps so I am happy to go back a step if it means we can get over them! I've gone from happily doing 80 to right back down to 50 then back up again. You'll get there!

It was Soar Valley. I’ll definitely do that - just a bit concerned about what people who know him will think (who aren’t aware of the situation) but oh well. Our next outing is the cross country clear round at Eland so I’ll go and have fun there and then concentrate on getting him out show jumping. There’s Vale the Sunday after that so might go there and do the smaller class if I can get transport or a weekday somewhere.

I also noticed that his saddle was coming up a LOT at the back over some of the jumps which may explain the stopping to a certain degree. So I messaged my saddler this morning and she said he’s probably lost a bit of weight and the saddle is too wide. So going to weigh-tape him tonight and get back to her to see if we can sort something out. She says she’s at my yard 2nd July but if his saddle is too wide I don’t want to essentially be off games for a month!

Ah i've heard of that but haven't been. I thought it may have been one I sometimes go to which sounds like a similar set up! Agree that it's none of their business. In my avatar i'm jumping 1m5, there's no way i'd compete at that level :D plus the people that know Buzz know that he is perfectly capable of doing bigger courses but are still pleased when we get a clear at 70.
It's up to you what you do with your horse :)

Chippers - if you ever fancy going to it, let me know and I’ll come support as it’s so close to me!

Thanks for putting some sense into me chippers and roxylola. I do really often worry about what people think, which I know I shouldn’t do. Thing is, the people whose opinions I actually care about and respect will also probably agree. I’ll weigh tape him tonight and see if he’s dropped weight - he’s been a bit like this before when the saddle has been too narrow or too wide, even marginally because he’s a sensitive soul, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why. Then I will go out and jump a few 60/65cm classes to get our confidence back and then hopefully we can get back on track.

My week was a bit mental!

Thursday I had a very bad reaction to my second Covid jab and ended up in A&E. Friday I moved house. Saturday I had a much needed ME day. Sunday I took Rooni for 19 miles round Mam Tor with a BFF.

The terrain is not for the faint hearted. Tough, rocky and with some seriously precarious tracks. It was a fab day out and Rooni loved it. Mostly walk with a bit of trot and just a few canters, took us 5.5 hours in total. I was shattered!

Managed to make it back home for my bro’s gf bday bbq and then back home as had someone round in the eve.

Monday was another nice me day, I drove a few hours to see a BFF and we had a lovely dog walk and pub lunch. Nice to do human things again!

We went for a 3hr gallopy hack to the further beach yesterday evening - it was lovely as all the holiday makers were eating dinner/had gone home, and we got back to the yard just as the sun was setting. I’m so lucky to live here, and so lucky to have a horse that enjoys hooning around the countryside as much as I do ?.

NMT - I'm exhausted just reading your post! I hope you're fully recovered from the jab, that sounds pretty scary. And having spent 5 days riding around the Peaks three years ago, I know what you mean about the terrain. The views are worth it though, what a beautiful place.

We had two good lessons at AMD. Yesterday we were outdoors and spent some time looking at the simple changes, as they'd gone a bit crooked. Lots of forward and back, making him wait, keeping him off the leg and hand, and they were greatly improved. Then a look at that lateral work and that was also much stronger, the half-passes are feeling very grown-up now.

Indoors this morning so we could have a go at flying changes for the first time without risking going straight out of the school! We had another look at the trot work and canter half-passes, then had a go at the FCs. You could feel the penny drop with each attempt, and it took just three goes each way to get a clean (albeit messy!) change and very little drama as we did them. Clever boy!

Hopefully this link works:

I might go and watch the GP at SPF on Saturday unless I have viewers for Deza. I've put her up for sale. As soon as Joe arrived it crystallised it for me that I just need a rough and ready project as a second horse, not a valuable blood horse like her. I've tried, and it was really interesting to own a PRE and bring her on from only just sat on, but we're a bad match in too many ways. I wrote the ad as a test a week ago and every day it's been sitting there saying 'post me, you know you should', so I have.

Ludo was fabulous at his lesson on Wednesday and we are being promoted to collected trot :). Meanwhile I have homework of a complicated canter exercise I've been challenged to have right by next time in 2 weeks.
Now I've caught up with your horse exploits :)
Sounds like a good decision. Looking forward to hearing more about Joe.

Small person and baby Welshie survived XC. Poor baby Blaze was quite boggle-eyed at some of what she was being expected to jump even though they were only tiny, as she’s only seen colour or rustic poles so far, nothing more unusual, but she quickly got into the swing of it with the ever-reliable daddy at her side, and everyone had a great day out, which was the main aim of the day!

We just hacked but went exploring for new routes, I think we covered a lot of ground, we rode for a total of about 7 hours over two days!

Just enough time to sneak this in...
Myself and coblet spent the long weekend at riding club camp. It was my first proper camp and was blown away with how well organised it was, especially as it's only a small riding club.
We had three hours of riding each day, plus two evening talks (nutritionalist and equidance). Lovely bunch of people and amazing food.
We had a go at Le Trec and simulated cross country (first go at both), test riding sessions and SJ. So pleased with how well she behaved and our jumping really came on. Finished with a combined training competition where we jumped clear over our biggest course yet. She really is an awesome little coblet.
My parents are now visiting for the week - haven't seen them since Christmas 2019 so the horses will have a quiet week.Screenshot_20210602-175334~2.png

She looks epic! Can she whisper in Bear's ear over the stable door to tell him not to be so useless...? :D

So late to the party this weekend, but we had a fab time at AMD along with j1ffy and some other friends. I was really pleased with the progress that we have made since our last visit 4 weeks ago. I am definitely getting much happier about taking Maddie out to lessons. Not sure about the whole competing aspect yet, but it's still early days. It all takes time with a new partnership. Hopefully this link will work ok.....
