I am currently in an area due to be hit by the storm, and there are several flood warnings in place. My parents are on the south coast in Devon in a village that is often battered by storms so I expect they will get the worst of it (fortunately they live on a hill). It is currently sunny and still here, which seems a little ominous in light of the forecast for tonight/tomorrow

Our area was hit hard by flooding from Babet and are due to be hit by Ciaran too (although not as badly as further south). We're still saturated from Babet, it's just not dried, so it's a bit worrying as to whether everything will flood again or flood worse this time. I've never been so grateful to live on the top of a hill but really feel for those affected by the flooding and our trade off is being very exposed to the wind.

Hope everyone, humans and animals, stays safe.

I have to drive down (and back up!) the M5 to a work meeting in Exeter tomorrow, looks like it will be a fun drive 😲
This is why zoom teams etc were invented, colleagues in Somerset have been told schools are closed so might be worth checking the meeting is definitely on

It is on, that team all live in the area and all say they will be there. It is a vital meeting so I can't miss it, and Teams isn't an option. I know a back route down to Exeter but suspect that will be more of a risk due to large trees, so the M5 is probably the best option. I will set off really early so I can go slowly.

At the moment I'm not convinced the weather will be that bad (just usual heavy rain and wind for the time of year), apparently it's still calm down there at the moment, but I will see what it is like in the morning.

Be sensible and talk to your boss about rearranging or doing it in Zoom. No point in unnecessary risks. If you have somehow convinced yourself this is a normal storm, think again, this is another sign of the screwed up climate .

Honestly I've been the person who got to a meeting 200 miles away and everyone else (who lived max 10 miles away) didn't make it. It's just not worth it. There's technology to allow you to join a meeting even others make it there in person. Your employers shouldn't be asking you to come in with weather warnings out.

Feels like the calm before the storm here at the moment, today hasn't been too bad so far, but I think tomorrow is supposed to be the worst of it here. A lot of schools around here are also planning to close or open late tomorrow.

I don't have a good enough internet connection where I am staying to use Teams (at a friends house at the moment, took a day's leave so I could meet a friend's new puppy on the way*), and only an intermittent mobile signal. Everyone else is planning to go in tomorrow and all patient appointments are going ahead as planned. I will be sensible but at the moment I am planning to attend (with the knowledge that may change in the morning).

It is still very still here, has anyone in the SW/S had wind yet? We had one shower during the day but otherwise it was sunny and pleasant.

*In case anyone thinks I've been at work and on HHO all afternoon 😲

I'm right in the middle of the storm area and am ready to invoke our business continuity plans tomorrow in offices around the south east coast and maybe elsewhere? Have left horses out as think it's safer.

My chickens have gone onto the perch in their covered run at night (into which they get locked in) since late Spring when I got them but only go into the attached coop to lay. Tonight they have gone into the coop for the first time ever. They obviously know something is afoot.

Stay safe all and @SilverLinings - Exmouth already starting to feel the first of the storm. I think you'd be mad to go to Exeter.

middle of Dartmoor and it is seriously starting to kick off. I think from what I have read that the wind etc gets really bad around 3 am onwards and I think it extends into tomorrow. Everyone shut in and top doors closed which is the first time for over a year and I am sleeping in my outdoor clothes tonight just in case.
Got more petrol today for the generator as we could well lose the leccy and no doubt we will lose the broadband which won't be any different from normal as we lose it up to half a dozen times a day in normal times. :D

Stay safe everyone.

I’m about as far South as possible and our weather forecast says this. Either everyone is panicking about nothing (local college is shut, Im not sure about schools), or the Met Office weather is wrong 🫤

I'm in Cornwall, it was pretty windy earlier (but not excessively so), now just raining- no noticeably high winds yet. Where I am is a yellow weather warning for wind from 9pm, and Amber from 3am. It's yellow for rain now, it's not especially heavy at the moment, but the ground is saturated already.

I've just looked at ours on the met. Shows winds of about 27mph tomorrow with gusts of max 50mph. A bit different to 85mph being talked about!
