I might give tomorrow a miss, it looks a tad windy ? Another one XC schooling on Saturday and normal hack on Sunday. There is a fun ride around our area on Sunday but it’s expensive and as a lot of it is on my usual hacking routes I can’t see the point really.

TFF enjoy your XC schooling with B Fuzzy.

Does the thread start on a Wed or Thurs? Scratch that, I’ve just realised it’s Thursday today!!

Off to a day camp at boomerang on Saturday - sj, lunch break, then xc lesson. Last time I was there for camp, it rained the whole time and finnegan didn’t much like the wallabies! It’s a bit of a trek but I’ve got a stable booked so F can be comfortable.

Am trying a new bridle on finnegan (comfitec) which I’ll try out tmrw in the school.

Hone everyone has fun.

Scotland can start competing properly as of 31st August! If the local council's agree ...

This weekend however I am off to Cartmel on Sunday with 3 horses. It's still weird! No matter how many times I go there this season I still can't get used to the fact there's no funfair, no bbq's no hook a duck|!!!!!

Good Luck to everyone out and about!

haha it’s a place. Near Hungerford, over Berkshire way. Run by kiwis I think hence lots of antipodean extras inc real life wallabies, and some interesting animal jumps and a giant elephant statue in the middle of the xc.

thurs afternoon, by tradition ;)

Kira and I had our 2nd lesson of the week this evening - now we're on site we are doing 2 half lessons instead of one full one which is a wonderful luxury because I can arrive warmed up and just focus on a couple of things :)

Writing again at Winter Champs tomorrow and Saturday. Prelim and Ele petplans tomorrow, then Novice and Inter 1 on Saturday (very happy to do the I1 ;) )

general trundling at home in between.

Happy campers this evening

Finally I have something to do. A test riding clinic. Hoping we can get round the arena, like all of it - the letter P tried to kill him (in his view) last time we were there. And he has a good memory!

Hoping the wind isn’t as bad as forecast

Good luck to everyone

Xc schooling for Toby at Eland. Facing the dreaded ditch hedge to give us half a chance at next week's ODE.

And Solihull BE for Katie - if she recovers from tonsillitis quickly enough....

the hedge ditch is honestly a rider frightener more than anything. Don’t worry about the ditch, it’s a ground line ?, and the smallest one isn’t really ? that big, if you are positive and the horse understands it rides well....

We are show jumping on Saturday morning, then off to an event Sunday morning to help some friends out. No doubt I will be jealous I'm not riding but we need to get our SJ worked out before we go to that particular venue.

Will be hacking at home around those things and hopefully not too busy!

I'm not frightened of it but Toby really was when he was asked to jump it at Eland camp. It was an unfair question really as up till and since then all he had been asked to jump were simple, small questions. And questions were asked one at a time. Ie a ditch alone before a ditch under or in front of a jump. Then he was faced with a ditch and a drop at the biggest fence he'd been asked to jump on only his third time over XC fences.

Unfortunately izzy was riding not me and she trusted the instructors judgement. Then a 10 minute battle ensued involving the instructor throwing things at him etc and finishing with Toby refusing to go within 10m of the fence. And Izzy did not have the confidence to stop that happening either.

So we do need to unravel that experience in training before jumping that fence in competition. Once he's done it once I doubt he will ever have an issue again. Hopefully! It's literally the only fence he has said no to. He is very genuine and willing generally.

Hmm yeah harder when they’ve had a bad experience with a fence! I’m sure you’ll give him the confidence to go over it this time ☺️, hopefully he’s not holding a grudge with it too much.

I have to say you’ve mentioned a couple of things that different camp instructors have done that I’m a bit ? at! Throwing things ??‍♀️ What was that going to do asides from confirm to him that it was indeed really scary!

Yes I've actually decided not to go to commercial camps anymore unless I know who's teaching. I've only had 2 instructors who have really annoyed me - but one was a PC instructor so the girls had her on camp every year. She threw things at ponies too and freaked poor Jenny out! That was exactly the same sort of situation - pony has a mild wobble and ends up in a total state just because they instantly resort to pressure not patience. Jenny was actually hyperventilating! And then the Eland instructor. Both older women. Both very strident bossy characters. I dont ride like that. I'm sure they have plenty of success with plenty of horses and riders but it's just not a good fit for me.

I also had a bossy instructor at Eland when I did an xc course aimed at nervous riders, in the description it said you could do as little or as much as you wanted and would be an introduction to xc for nervous or novice. Thought it would be great as at this point I had zero confidence xc (although previously competed 80 on my old pony but hadn't done it for years..)
First jump after warm up was an 80 fence?! my group were a bit like...can we do the 70 first at least??
I told her I really didn't like steps and I must've done those 80 steps a hundred times, but she wasn't particularly nice about it and didn't let me do the smaller ones first! I tend to just do what i'm told too (which didn't help!) I wonder if it was the same woman.

Not much for me this weekend, box is still in the garage (and i drive past every day and see it hasn't moved ) so i'm going to go in today and prod him a bit so I can hopefully get the re test this week otherwise I won't be able to do the Eland ODE on the 31st :(
