Weekend plans!!

We are SJ too, well Malachy is, not me. Presumably same event AE? He's in the baby class Sun AM. 3rd show for him, hopefully he has a nice experience. He finds the cantering much harder than the jumping. I bought him a matchy matchy ES outfit so it will get it's 1st outing which I'm happy about, LOL!
I hope Bog is OK Michen, I know what you mean when they have been injured you watch every stride :( Im the same with the dogs.
Hope the weather is ok for you lot in the UK, tell me, it's it ever nice there? Haha JJ, you have all the gorgeous GREENESS all year round that we don't, very jealous of that.

I have bought some waterproof duct tape and some tarp and I am doing some diy repair/leak stopping to my box outside my stable. Followed by some tack cleaning. Oh and popping new wheel on my wheelbarrow.

then to finish it off I’m going to paint some furniture. I’m enjoying this new unlimited energy phase of pregnancy even if it’s come with heartburn.

Ugh, I wish I had endless energy! I’m feeling very limited right now and not sure how I’m going to get through the weekend. I’m sure I’ll manage but may have a tough day Monday!

we are off to Wasja which I think is about the only things on here for sj? Might see you there!

I had no issues with my covid vaccination, just a bruised and sore arm (as with all other vaccinations I get), I'm sure it'll be fine MP :) Second jab is due next Saturday, hopefully it will be the same!

I have entered our first official (I think that's affiliated in UK terms) dressage test in a few weeks, so will be aiming to get some serious schooling started as I have lately been a bit slack and chose to have fun going out on trails instead. Luckily the weather has smiled on us and it's rained after a few weeks of dry. Our school has a terrible surface but it is passable when damp, so we can do some schooling at home now :)

Lesson tomorrow for the ponio as well. Also hoping to hop on the young WB this week after a few weeks of languishing in the paddock and becoming a bit rude ;) . Time for some brain games for her! I am aiming to have her riding out in the big jumps paddock in the next few weeks, and will attempt canter in there as it's a better surface for her and I can do much bigger circles/straight lines up a gentle hill.

Sounds like a few good weekends planned, good luck at the SJ WA people!

Yes, I believe that’s what it is (she says vaguely..) at the SEC. I will look out for you.

Very chuffed with Bear today. He did plenty of long reining all over the place last year but has only really hacked alone around the field attached to the yard, never out on a proper hack for various reasons none his fault. I realised there was a bit of a gap in his education so have been building him up and he did his first proper solo hack today and was such an angel. Really nice and forward but not silly. Dare I say it a much more pleasant experience than hacking Boggle alone at the moment who does the whole thing sideways.

Very good boy Bear, he’s such a lovely fella.

I’m now officially Dr. DF (well, after I make the corrections!) so might chance my arm and go for a windy hack tomorrow ?

Congratulations that's awesome news :)

I have my first lessons of the year booked for Sunday and my first lesson on Daisy in, err 3 years! I'm really hoping the wind dies down before hand, preferably right now as I haven't been able to work either of them how I wanted to this week due to weather and lost shoes.

Does anyone else have QHs on here and do yours find removing shoes the most entertaining thing ever? I thought it was just Daisy but Amber has proven that no its either a breed thing or something related to me owning them :)

Congratulations, Doctor Fury!

My plans for the weekend are on hold because Blue appears to have done something to her poll. She refused to have her bridle put over her ears on Wednesday, and reacted badly to pressure behind/between her ears, so she's had a couple of days of bute and I'll see how she is on Sunday once it's all worn off. If she's still sore, it'll be yet another vet job. (This is a horse who pretty much puts her own bridle on normally, so definitely not just her being a madam.)

However, my name was drawn out of the hat, so I'll be moving from my 12'x12' stable to one of my yard's two 12'x18' stables at the weekend, which is probably harder work than if I were riding. Why did I buy the thickest Equimats? Why didn't I get cheap ones that I could roll up and carry four under each arm? Damn it. It also means moving tack rooms, so it'll be a good time to have a clearout of all the crap that's accumulated under my shelves.

A good day in Bogbear land. Boggle had his first proper pop over jumps and didn’t disunite at all (sign that he’d injured his right hind). Got the wrong leg a few times on both reins but was happy landing on his left lead.

And Bears liver enzymes are back to normal! High end of normal but normal.

I've just entered my first 2 BE events ? so I really need to crack on- hacking tomorrow and then course jumping on Sunday, aiming to simulate warming up and going in the ring again. I must admit, this weather is not really inspiring much confidence!
If the weather is ok then the two 4 year olds will go on their first little hacks of the year as well and do a bit of in-hand work in the arena.

Well we have had a very fun horse filled weekend!

dressage club yesterday was super, Coolie is not a fan but he tried his best and we had some nice work. He is looking fab and with a bit more top line will be able to be a bit more consistent. It was a good reminder for me to do less as a rider and focus on the rhythm more. 414FF566-9AB8-4051-9695-9AD58FF15FD2.jpeg
Today we were show jumping again, this time in the 70 & 80. He was fantastic in both rounds, so adjustable and consistent. He felt a little tired after yesterday but he jumped really well.

He was second in the 70 but I got a bad line in our jump off for the 80 and just tipped a rail. It was a shame but he was brilliant and I know what happened so we can be even better next time. His time for the jump off would have been competitive! I find it so cool how well he has stepped into this role and how it’s changing us both for the better. Love my little Orange Wonder!

Well done!! Didn't see you today but we were only there for the 1st class.
Malachy had a lovely round, just tipped the 2nd part of the double due to a slight communication error but he was great and so was his fab rider. Wish I could ride like that.. and, he looked very cute ;)

Congratulations Dr Fury - does it seem like the biggest relief ever?

Didn’t think I would get out at all this weekend due to weather (wind) but we sneaked in sone quick hacks Friday late afternoon and yesterday after lunch and again this morning. Nothing exciting, just around the village and the tracks. I have been trying to use hacks productively, practicing sitting and riding trot without stirrups (can’t manage too much of that!) and working on forward and rhythm trying to get him to work more round (difficult as he likes to gawp at stuff with head in air). Also turns on the FH (where we turn around) and leg yield
A couple of weeks ago I subscribed for to an online dressage training thing so have lots of material to read/ watch so at least I can learn what I’m doing wrong even if I can’t actually do it right...

Jumping lesson today in a monsoon. Hail and howling winds. Toby was a star! He just tries so hard and although he started the lesson jumpy, he settled really quickly and just got on with it.

Nothing is coming quickly or easily with Toby. So progress feels very slow and is hard won. But at least I do feel we are going in the right direction. Most of the time.

This looks small but I think it's a bit of an optical illusion because it's an 80 oxer. And he flew over it easily. But if I'm not correct in every way (line, canter quality, focus, contact, leg, balance) he'll knock them down. So he is teaching me to ride better which must be a good thing!

Congratulations Dr Fury!!

Michen I know exactly what you mean about heart in mouth. After 3 broken horses, I am hyper alert to any tiny signs of a possible problem. I'm not sure there's a way round that. Ive never managed to be a bit more chilled anyway. And actually your hyper vigilance is what got Bog diagnosed so quickly in the first place so perhaps its actually a good way to be. Though obviously tough on you. I am glad he is back picking up correct leads reliably now xx

Thanks AE. Can’t remember if I wrote it in a post but my vet said whenever something happens I need to think hocks not ligament as that’s the more likely suspect. The hock is so minor but could still have the odd flare up/bad day depending on factors.

Toby looks fab in the photo! God I need to get Bear jumping he’s meant to be doing an HT in 4 weeks!

Successful weekend here- I decided to just pretend the wind wasn’t happening and got on and hacked both 4 year olds who were total ⭐️s both days. Delighted with how easy they are, long may this last!

Elana came to work today and we had a run through of our first dressage test a couple of times (note to self: ride more forwards), then I put her back on the trailer for an hour before I had a jump. She came out much more focused and jumped well.
I think she might be ready to event in 3 weeks time, but it is a worry with her not having been anywhere else for ages as she always goes more green at a competition.

Who are you?!? You didn’t have a single backwards stride or take a pull ?

Not a lot to report back from us... its all pretty dull at the mo. Did lots of foal cuddling, Hera has outgrown her large foal headcollar so we did some leading practice in her new pony size one ? she's such a fun character, she's got the mare knife-edge adorable/outraged thing going on which I find pretty addictive ?

More knife edging with Kira this weekend, she's feeling fab but battling with her hormones so she oscillates between brilliant and obnoxious ? who wouldn't love this little face though
