What breed of horse do you have and why

I have a reg New Forest pony, a NFxExmoor, a Haflinger/Welsh B/C mix, a little TB type, 2 mini Shetlands (cos every yard should have a mini :D ) and 2 Welsh A x Shettie youngsters. Why? I don't really know :o They all have their own different story as to how they ended up with me :)

We have 2 3/4 arab x welsh, 1 standardbred,(in foal) and a strawberry roan 13.2 pony which we bought for the kids, now grown up. the arabs cos of their character, beauty and intelligence- the s.bred, well bred and only 4 at the time, we saved from the meat man, a lovely mare with a grand future.

I have an Oldenburg, for no particular reason other than she was for sale when I wanted a horse to buy, and she fitted the bill. Wouldn't have another one, they have horrible wavy manes and tails that are a bugger to pull :)

Belgian warmblood - because he ticked all the boxes, was lovely to ride and affordable! He's a sensible chap but so much fun to ride - not silly or spooky, but responsive.. and NOT dumb!

Glad it is not just me that believes that WBs are NOT dumb. I can't understand why they have that rep. Especially as nearly all I have met have been at least average intelligence.

My lad is the most intelligent horse I have ever met,I have been around horse for 44 yrs so met a lot of horses.

i chose to buy a black fell pony as they are beautiful, stocky and hairy.

my first pony was a black dales x and i wanted another black chunky pony again.

after years of working with tb's and tb x i wanted a nice calm sensible pony.

:D My tb is 100x more sensible than my Fell pony was!

I have one Welsh B x Arab, one Welsh D, one Welsh D x TB, one ISH, one TB x WB and one Welsh C.

Why do I have them, no clue :D each and every time I say I don't want another Welsh they're too argumentative and quirky. TB's are too spooky and flightly and Arabs irritate me :D Seriously though I love my bunch, it just goes to show each horse is an individual and it's pointless generalising ;)

Mine's a Gelderlander/shire. I hadn't planned on one as I hadn't even heard of a Gelderlander when I rescued him several years ago, but he's the light of my life. Big, kind, rather hairy and honest as the day is long.

irish tb/dutch wb - bought to showjump - from the 'Billy' stud - wanted the addition of tb for their brains and stamina - got a clever but quirky and sensitive horse a pleasure to own but not for a beginner or multiple riders

ive got an Irish Draught Gelding, i love him, has a nice temperament, unless he is in a grumpy mood but he didnt exactly have the best start to life, however he is amazing, does anything for me really, he is willing to work which i love, but he also has his moments when he's silly with me and a friend, and then when my six year old sister gets on him he switches off and is a saint :)

I have a 3yo TB x Cob.
I didn't exactly 'choose' which breed I brought, as he just kind of fell into my lap (not literaly, cus I'd be a bit squished under the brute!)
He suits me because I don't have the time for serious competition, so he doesn't have to be a superstar, but he should have enough ability and sense to keep me interested.
I don't have a favourite breed as such, I judge each horse on it's own merit. And he has more going for him than a lot of better 'bred' horses IMO. (Although he is rather well bred, even though he's a cross :D)

I have a dutch warmblood mare. I didn't go looking for a warmblood and I didn't even really like the look of her untill I rode her and that sealed it for me.

She is very beautiful and a bit of a madam at times. Somebody said to be that she looked like one of the Queen's horses, shiny and black and I said yes. she can act like one of the Queen's horses too and is often refered to as Princess......!

i have a new forest (possibly x), a dartmoor, a DHP x, and an ID x (possibly) belgian warmblood.
i say it's possible because lots of people (vets, saddlers, back people and EDT's) all say that my lad looks like he is ID x BW.

i bought him because he looked so honest and inncocent! he has turned out to be better than i originally thought and has given me back my confidence which was stripped away from me by my last mare, a lippizzaner x connemara!

Tb, light in the hand, sensitive, elegant, fast. If you can get your riding aids correct for a Tb to the centimetre, they are like porches.

I have a Fell - because he's awesome! :D Also, I rode and fell in love with a few Fell ponies when I was younger and have wanted one ever since. I was gutted when, as a child at a riding school I got taller and wasn't allowed to ride the ponies any more and kept being put on horses - discovered natives and realised they were the answer to being allowed to stay on ponies and feel a like a total child! Also the trigger for looking for my boy was hitting the deck twice in 30 minutes from a Tb on the gallops - decided that something wide and close to the floor was a good idea!

KWPN because they came on my path. :D I live in the Netherlands so it's impossible to avoid. I've also had Gelderse, Holsteiners, Thoroughbread, Friesians, BWP, SF and Trakheners under the saddle but the KWPN suits me best...

If I for any reason would want a little less sensibel horse in the future I'd choose a Gelderse. http://www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/index.html

Are you suggesting that my lad is less than sensible? :p I love my KWPN Gelders horse, but sensible ? Not even a little bit, characterful, opinionated, talented and intelligent but sensible no!

i have a tbxclevaland bay shes the best horse ive ever had very laid back but the stamaner and agilaty amazing and as i work in racing it would be a bit hipacritical not to have an exracer so i have 1 of them and wouldnt be without him very trainable and great hunter

I have one TB who we have had coming up 6 years. she was my first horse and we were a bit inexperienced when we got her and she has so many issues that we couldnt sell her now even if we wanted but we probably wouldnt get a full tb again and even reluctant to get a tb part bred.

A half welsh, 3/8ths tb and 1/8th appaloosa. He is leopard spotted and honestly the best temperment we have come across. We didnt realise he had so much tb in him before we got him or we may have been a bit more reluctant. He is an absolute angel though and with the most goregous paces! I would def get an appy x or welsh x again!

Last is an exmoor filly. We got her a few months ago and she hadnt ever been handled before and to say she was a bit of a handful is being a bit optimistic. she is very cute and pretty though and bit of a cheeky money with excellent jump. However, I probably wouldnt get another exmoor again. But we'll see if my opinion changes when I back her.

Had an ISH and he was lovely and a big dope and not all there in the head. Probably wouldnt get another though.

Next breed I want to try is an andulsian or lustiano!

I have a Dutch WB, he's 17.1hh, chestnut and my pride and joy. He's 18 years young now but you wouldn't think so! He's strong willed and very cheeky at times but we have such a strong bond, he'll pull faces at everyone else on the yard but will whinnie at me everytime he see's me, will give me "kisses" and I just love him with all my heart!

American Quarter Horses - because I love the way they move, the way they look, they have character and trainability in bucket loads and are very good minded. They just make my day.

Mules because they think before they act ;)

I've got two Highlands because they are small enough not to hurt my back getting on and off and they have great temperaments (usually  ). I also like doing local showing and dressage and they are perfect for that as there are usually classes for M&Ms.

My first horse was a TB X New Forest mare she was great to ride real fun and very fast, we now have an Arab gelding and a Oldenburg mare, I have always wanted an Arab and very glad we got him he is such a good boy, the mare we kind of just bought her and she has turned out lovely too, would have another Arab any day and we have got into Warmbloods now too, so think we made a good choice.

Mine is a Danish WB who is mostly Hanoverian and Trakehner bloodlines. I wasnt that fussed about breeding - he was just the right horse. And not dumb at all !! As a family we have also had Belgian WB, Selle Francais, another Danish WB, a lusitano x TB and a lusitano in the past.
