hi mv22 i bought him from an old chap in meercaston. to be honnest i think breeding horses is all getting to much for him. aas this boy realy wasnt in a good way, he was riddled with worms and lice. i have owned him 8 weeks and treating him every5 day with lice powder to my suprise the eggs still havent hatched out (maybe there dead) his dad apperently was 16hh it was hard to tell if he was as he was in the distance his mum was around 14.2. the grey pony stood with him is 14.2 and he is nearly the same height as him now

I didn't touch my cob til he was 4 1/2 then taught him the basics with 3 months off for winter so he was nearly 5 by the time he done anything else now a year on he's learning to jump. I have him for life and in no hurry to ruin him...

To some I've taken it too slow but he's fab and I'm glad I done things the way i have.

Good luck, you'll need it :)

Cooper Fly repellent/switch itch lotion is fantastic for lice.

What is a TROLL? I don't get it....

from what i can gather a troll is a poster who puts things to wind others up
i did get coopers from the vet on last visit i use that on his face as i dont wont to put powder near face as it blows in his eyes

Lovely boy... my advice is put him in a field for the next year with some friends and visit him daily for cuddles & gentle handling with basics which can all be easily done at grass. This is what i am doing with my 8 month old filly as ive always been advised too much handling of youngsters can lead to issues down the line...plenty of time for training when he's a little older just let him enjoy being a baby horsey!

MV22 if you get a mare then you and op can breed lots of cute foals to practice your animal husbandry on!

I said a baby mare silly, as in a couple of days old. That is what they're called right?

On a serious note, How can we put her in foal when kylee's colt is being cut? im not sure if you know this, but cut means no nads, which means no babyjuice, which makes it impossible for the mare to concieve...

or maybe i'm wrong.

Can't believe how pedantic some 'regulars' can be.

I am no doubt younger than some of you (not meant offencivley, honest) and you are in some/most cases more experianced than me. Yet look at the example you are setting, trust no one tell everyone what they want to hear... im not too sure this forum is serving it's purpose anymore, it's more like a let's take the biscuit out of people asking for advice.

And you wonder why people get rather narked, shout and scream, thn banned, so what, you can all keep the originals on here?

It goes to say something when a new member mentioned previously in this post has a dig at people seeking advice trying to fit in with the crowd. sad. very sad.

Where is meercaston? I dont know the exact name of the place, it was back end of no-where, but I think i may well have a 2 year old filly from the same place...

MV22, He has not been castrated yet and you had said you could get a female foal. You wouldn't have to breed immediately. The op has stated that she is not looking to earn money from her foal and does not want to rush him. In a couple of years he and a similarly aged filly would make perfect parents.

:eek:Are you actually suggesting breeding from underage horses? Get in the naughty corner, wicked person! No Jaffa cakes for you!

mountain view don't be so sensitive. I currently have my first real youngster too, though he's 2 now. I'm probably not much older than you, if at all either  Your posts are much more legible than the OPs, it's not about being perfectly spoken - this is a forum after all - but being understandable really does make a big difference...

it may be best if i dont ask for feedback or advise on here anymore lol:)

Seriously, it's worth putting up with the madness because there is a lot of good advice to be had here. It's been more of a madhouse than usual tonight, but do give it another chance!

There are even some nice people here. :D

I'm sorry to have contributed to that. Having elaborated on your original post, I don't think you've done anything to put him at risk and, fwiw, I don't think you would intentionally do anything to harm him as was suggested towards the start of this post. In an ideal world, everyone who owns youngsters would be experienced and knowledgeable about every eventuality. It's not an ideal world. If it were, I wouldn't have a two year old who I can't even keep in his field  If you choose to stay around on the forum, even quietly, you can probably get some useful advice and possibly become an even better owner for your boy, which is all that matters in the end.

I think you've been given a hard time here, but believe it or not it's not personal. Remember people don't know you and are sometimes jumping to conclusions due to past experience. That's their problem, not yours.

Internet forums can be a bit of a bear pit but I find this one very useful (I'm an inexperienced owner too). And some of the bears are really nice when they're not growling! :D
