What do you just HATE to see?

mental image cringe...

...over weight people REALLY humping the saddle and poker straight arms around the horses ears...1-2-3 - ..*shiver*...

Ah another one girl at yard always wants to ride out with me, fine dont mind but i am taking my youngster out on roads for first time she is mature woman on 13'2" pony and uses my horses back end for breaks, then tell me "OOOH he really likes your stallion" GGGRRRRR, i am riding a 16'2" stallion on the roads for the first time and have breaks and contol and you dont.
Funny have avoided riding out with her since.
Why does no-one ride in a snaffle bridle anymore, i teach all my youngster in them and have no probs.
What is wrong with taking time to teach a youngster rather than tie them down with every damned gadget.
What has happened to manners.
And what is wrong with hi-viz came home from yard at 7.30pm pitch dark other night 2 kids riding horses on road only just see them so stayed behind them to make sure got back to their yard safely and not even a wave of thanks.
Rant rant rant i could be here all night so i will stop now

People who think Hi Viz only works when cars have their headlights on. No, not really
grin.gif
Your horse, your life. But it does work in daylight as well.

OK, I've got another one. Numpties who tie their horse up outside my stable, to eat hay that I paid for, from my haynet, while my poor horse is in the stable getting wound up. And then keep doing it when I ask them not to. And don't sweep up the hay left under my haynet by their horse eating my hay (that I paid for if you're keeping up!), to compound their crime.

No Hi Viz buggs me, we always wear it.

Other things are a healthy hardy native pony unclipped in about 3 rugs and obviously not happy! Yes i really did see it!

People who think all horses/ponies need to spend most of their lives in stables just because its what THEY like to see, and think im cruel because ours live out 24/7!!

Eh? You tie your haynet up out of your horse's reach, but within reach of others on the yard??

I'd be tempted to put my horse in their newly made stable with their horses haynet.

look, do you have an issue? I stayed away for a day or two, over something a little unpleasant that happened.
I came back, and have been back on here for a day or two.
I'm wondering why you feel the need to query my presence here, on a long running, pleasant thread which a lot of people have clearly found fun to take part in.
Do you have some sort of official role?

A silly little irratation from me....

No 1 - When out hunting and as usual my two mares are perfectly behaved and people always make passing remarks such as "Oh you are so lucky, I wish my horse was as good yours " whereas actually, it has taken a lot of time, schooling, instilling manners to do gates etc to make my mares so perfect at their job and if only those that commented would put in the same effort - they too would have easy horses to ride rather than prancing around on difficult horses that I am sure they are secretly hoping people are admiring their riding skills!

No 2 - people who think it is cruel to stable horses - if the weather is extreme my mares want to stay in their stables (even though they are exercised daily) and absolutely hate being out in a soggy wet, muddy field with no grass, with soggy wet, heavy rugs in the pouring rain and howling wind. As soon as you turn them out they are hanging around the gate wanting to come straight back in again - they love their stables! And, it is a damn sight easier for me to keep a clean, mud fever free horse fit and healthy in winter!

Oh and I hate Dutch Gags, they seem to be the fashion accessory at the moment!

Hear Hear,
I was actually finding this thread amusing and strangely enough....civil considering that one mans pet peeve is anothers action.
No was offending anyone, everyone was taking it light heartily and for once it was not descending into a name calling, free for all personal dig fest!!
SO, my new hate is people who join a thread with the sole intention of causing a fight and ruining it for others!

Oh, and people who think that at 31 I am too old to be using multi coloured petal boots on my horse!

I thought of another.... people riding their horse in the arena, round and round and round, and digging trenches!! There are corners in the arena!!! Oh and if you want to do that then sort the arena out after!!

AND PICK UP YOUR HORSE POO!

People using my stuff and leaving it elsewhere for me to hunt down.
Poop, hay and feet pickings outside my stable where they have tied their horses up!
Lunging a yearling!!! grrrrrr
Someone using my stable as a toilet and leaving the discarded tissue grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Taking strangers into my fields to meet and play football with my youngster grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

oohhh and also leaving the tack room open and unlocked whilst they are else where on a hack grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Agree about people who don't skip the arena out after they've used it.

People who think it's ok to 'borrow' your brush/shovel/fork - 'borrow' means return to owner when used! I hate having to go round the yard, finding my stuff after I've been away.
People who 'borrow' bits of your grooming kit with out asking. What if my horse had a skin condition, or picked one up from theirs?
People who borrow the leadrope off my headcollar.

I work hard, to pay for my stuff so I can use it when I need it. I'm not a lending library.

That is truly gross!

Well, this is a good way to wake up on a Sunday morning lol

Most of my pet hates are already mentioned, but I have a few minutes spare, so I'm going to repeat them
grin.gif

- no high viz (I was lying on the ground in a paddock, the helicopter pilot bringing help could easily see me
smile.gif
);
- people taking my stuff and breaking it/not putting it away where it goes!!!!!!!!!!!
- people whinging about the gear on my horse - my horse, my gear! It's all there for a reason otherwise I wouldn't bother
mad.gif
;
- people saying I can't put pink on a ginger horse: if you don't like it, don't look
grin.gif

- people telling me to pull Dizz's mane. Why? What's it got to do with them???
- hacking out with someone who just dashes across roads, completely forgetting that they've left x number of horses dancing around at a junction;
- people who have had the time period to work on their horse - mine is young, we've had issues, we're working on getting better, but it's not going to happen over-night. Give me a break! And I will comment on others horses who are well behaved and look forward to the day that mine can and will do the same;
- very expensive equipment that disintegrates on contact!
- paying for experts and getting rubbish service that affects my horse and takes me huge amounts of time and effort to try and sort out;
- being considered cruel for my horse living out 24/7 and not being fed every day. I'll feed her when she needs it! She prefers to be out (I would prefer her in, looking pretty in a nice fluffy bed, but it's not going to happen);
- being considered cruel because my horses, when they are in, are on rubber matting with a sprinkling of shavings. It's what works for us! Horses are happy to lie down on it, rugs are not worse than with a deep bed, and we don't spend hours mucking out we spend it with our horses instead. Our decision, get over it!

Hm. And I woke up in a good mood

Oh GOOOOD I could do with a rant
smile.gif

So called horsey people driving dangerously on roads when there are horses around.

Racist thugs pretending to be a political party

People who support racist thugs, cause a riot, then end up looking the innocent ones - WTF??

Spoilt children not being disciplined or supervised by their parents when around or riding horses

Threads about Parelli - its barefoot now dahling, do keep up
wink.gif

Self-proclaimed experts: by all means suggest an alternative way to me and explain why you think that way would be better, but ultimately its my choice, and if I didn't want to do it the first time, don't raise it again, as all you will do is raise my blood pressure and yours.

People who Just Don't Get It when it comes to why it is preferable to keep your horse as close to the way nature intended as possible. Well meaning folk keeping their horses in the stable 20/7... ???

Clock changes. Im confused.

Severe bits and various other gadgets, because the horse is 'soooo strong' and the rider is wearing spurs! Oh but it's always because the horse backs off fences, enough though it clearly isn't.

[/ QUOTE ]

But sometimes, yoiu need both... A used to ride her 14hh coblet in spurs and carry a whip, but he went XC witha cheltenham gag in. He was horrendously strong and built like a small tank (makes Toto look like a racehorse!) but equally a little git who had no qualms planting halfway round the course or napping or pretending he was scared of the big scary brush fence...

.

Just thought of another one - I hate people who walk over my drive, I mean why? Is the pavement not wide enough??

He he he, I feel sooooooo much better. Thank you
grin.gif

Large groups of walkers/general tourists who take up the whole road and refuse to move to the side/into driveways to let you past, be you on horseback or in car. Yes you just stand there gawping Mr BackPack Man, I'll just run you over then shall I.

People who walk around blind junctions (sharp turn, big high wall topped with plants so you cannot see a thing until you are round it..) and then look shocked that you nearly rode over the top of them. Just be glad I wasn't in the car... use the footpath! Its on the other side of the road for a reason.

Little dogs being carried.
Little dogs with coats on/bows in their hair. Functional coat, a little dress? No.

People walking dogs on extendable leads at events/along main roads.

People who stick martingales on their horse because everyone has one or "but he looks funny without one"

Gah.

No 2 - people who think it is cruel to stable horses

[/ QUOTE ]

Ha ha, I was just about to say - I dislike it when a lot of people automatically stable their horses! I don't think its cruel if the horse actually NEEDS to be stabled, however I think most people do it purely for their own satisfaction (ie. horse stays cleaner etc.). Horses are designed to be outside, with other horses. IMO horses never "choose" to be shut up in a small box for hours on end - they may only appear to want this because thats all they've ever known or they link it with something else (ie. getting feed or hay!). ANY horse can live outside, whatever breed.

My other pet hate is linked to the above - those who think that horses cannot compete seriously off grass! What on earth is up with that?! Mine keeps himself fit, supple and respiratory-wise in good order.

Ha ha ha just thought of another one, although I'm laughing not ranting really. The two boy racers who were having a race one way down a hill and I was coming up the hill, with two parked cars to overtake.

No.1 thanked me for waiting while he passed (he was closer to the parked car than me, simples.) At which point I though "How nice, a boy racer who thanked me
smile.gif

However a few seconds later boy racer no.2 did a very rude gesture to me because I seen fit to overtake first parked car and pulled in again waiting for him to pass second parked car before I did. (Enough time and space between boy racers to do so, but presumably not enough space to allow boy racer to put his foot down enough to be able to see the dust on boyracer no.1's boot).

Thus, the balance is restored, and he restored my faith that boy racers are all ejits
grin.gif

People who let their children run up to/behind horses. Surely it is common sense not to! This happened to my pony the last time we went out. We'd unloaded and all these children swarmed round her (We like the white one best!)

Thankfully, pony is an oldie and an absolute angel with children.

Scruffy horses. It genuinely does my nut in!
Horses that have pathetic tufts of feathers, scraggly manes and long tails, FGS give them a trim! I don't mean natives and the like, I mean TB-types with manes down to their ankles
grin.gif

I have a Piebald (mainly white) hairy monster that doesn't go out in public unless he's clean and trimmed

(And Spurs refine the leg aid, not make the horse go fast
