This is the rider's dilemma: yes we love, respect, are nice to, take the best care of (hopefully) our horses, but we should be aware that we are using them for our own ends. We have so altered their lives by domestication that they are no longer really capable of existing with out us (horses are extinct in the wild). I believe that it is our bounden duty to train and care for our horses to the utmost of our ability, but I also recognise that what we are doing is not for the horse's sake. And don't bring god into it please.....things are fractious enough!
ETA: horse meat isn't really all that popular in Europe, more of a thing in Japan.

i always ride to develop the horse, its one of my main beliefs, if i do it well for the horse the reward will come
our own ends does`nt come into it for me, i enjoy my horses and they enjoy me,, and thank old god all the time, simple
``viande chevaline`` has a place in a lot of euro supermarkets i have been in, on mainland europe and restaurants, it is built into a some studs business plans, as an income revenue ie horse meat

there are two thing i have faith in, god and horses
when you think for thousands of years horses were the main form of transport, dpes it really stretch you that much to imagine some design at work

True...but that can only happen because of the ignorance of others ?
If people didnt over horse themselves/bought the horse they actually needed and engaged with the right professionals then those horses possibly wouldn't end up where they do.
That's not a dig. Its expensive maintaining a horse in work and that increases as the level of work/skill does too. Not everyone has the disposable income to have the regular physio/scans/x-rays so on and on and on...

sure, god did that and made the magical ponies for you.Have you ever seen an equine skeleton? Know the names and functions of the muscles, all the muscles? Understand tendons, ligaments, fascia?? Because you're really not posting like someone with any knowledge based on facts.
You post about these mythical methods where no stress (impossible, literally) is exerted onto the horse and all the magical riders, yourself included, who use the best and only ways to train and yet you can produce zero evidence of this in practice.
Theres really no point in engaging with you further; you've shown your hand.

I'm so glad s/he has put so much effort into prancing ponies and its obviously her/his will when there are so many who have to endure horrific suffering.
It explains why s/he has been too busy to stop wars, starvation, suffering, murders and rapes...far too busy creating special horses that don't conform to the laws of physics and finding lost keys ?

I'm glad though I like a good debate. My aim was to discuss more the ethics of breeding top sport horses not the rider really. I also did think he was quite pretty if crazy money. ?it's quite a thread you started

I'm puzzled, are you really suggesting the anatomy of the horse was "designed " to carry people around? Because I think you've explained before about using slow and progressive training methods which I had understood to be an acknowledgement of the inherent weakness of the horse's body when it is used for... basically anything except hanging out in a field.

how on earth did this thread progress to religion? he is a pretty horse and has amazing movement but as i said, i prefer less extravagant paces and valegro is still my favourite i think partly because he is more like the horses i know and have ridden, in my wildest dreams i feel i maybe could ride valegro but know never in a million years could i even manage to sit on that horse, he is well out of my league and most amateur riders.. as i havent ridden anything for 18 months i would be all at sea on a riding school cob now..
