What is your bargepole breed?

Pretty much any terrier, but most especially jack russells. In my experience, they are all Independent little b*ggers who never come back when called, vastly prefer their own species to humans and don’t care if you live or die, as long as they get fed. Deliberately antagonistic and every single one I’ve met has oppositional defiant disorder in spades.

They are complete characters and extremely funny. And I would never own one again.

In all honesty most breeds are bargepole for me to own even though I like many of them. I would restrict owning to GSD, dobes, and BCs I think.

Theres a long list but to start; anything brachy (Ginny is bad enough and she has a decent nose ), anything giant (I struggle holding 19kg Dobby when he wants to chase something), Malis (I couldn't provide enough stimulation for one) and the vast majority of toy breeds (a jack russell is small enough for me!

I most definitely would never own a Chinese Crested, the only dog to ever bite me was a CC and he was a sneaky git as well as being nasty.

Anything which doesn’t have a very short coat, anything drooly, anything with baggy eyes, anything reactive towards people or any animals. Anything which is either smarter than me and that I have to work hard at mentally staying ahead of ie Mali, GSD (GSD is the only dog which has bitten me as an attack, although that was completely the idiot owners fault), anything which eyeballs me for instructions all the time ie spaniel.

I’m on my second short coated lurcher, suits me very well 😁

German Shepherds or Mallinois for no other reason that they utterly terrify me. I wish I knew someone with one to get over my fear but the woman across the road has one but its a knob.

Our Miley the Mali would change your mind. She’s the softest most loving dog. She thinks everyone was put on the earth to love her!

I wouldn't want any sort of American bully or any of the large guard dogs. I find chihuahuas ugly and I don't like pekingese, although I haven't seen one for years.
Labradors do nothing for me, they're lovely puppies but I don't find them attractive as adults.

I’d probably say Jack Russels. I have a JR x Shihtzu but she’s far more Shihtzu.
JR’s are perfectly lovely dogs, but just not the type I would choose.

I love all dogs so I actually find this a really hard question as a good dog is a good dog. Im a bit wary of Chows and don’t think I’d trust one (nor could be bothered with the coat!)

I’m fortunate that I get to spend time with lots of different breeds of dog. Some I would take home in a heartbeat, others I’m fond of but wouldn’t want. One of my favourite boys is actually an XL bully, but I wouldn’t want one myself.

Anything with a long coat. Anything which drools and needs a bib. Anything which snores due to short, squished noses. Anything that I cannot read.

And labradors. The only two dogs that have bitten me and meant it were both working bred labs in pet homes where they were child substitutes.

Pugs -- I think they are ugly and associate them with an acquaintance.
Chihuahuas -- why?
Anything brachy or bulldoggy, actually.
Jack Russells -- never got over the trauma of the ones owned by my boss when I was a groom at a posh dressage yard in New York. The things would attempt to herd my pickup truck when I was trying to get home after an exhausting, long day. It meant I couldn't leave because the damned dogs were nipping around the tyres, and squashing the boss' dogs was not a good career move. God, I hated those dogs.

I wouldn’t go for any short nose breeds because of health issues. My sister had a basset hound which had horrible life long back problems so I’d also avoid long dogs!
Everyone knows a 3 quarter JR with a pinch of chihuahua is best anyway….

Sharpei, never met one that wasn’t in chronic pain from skin / ears / eyes & so understanderbly they’re mostly quiet short tempered and unpredictable.

Any kind of bulldog as have yet to meet one without some kind of airway compromise sadly ☹️ A pity as a lot of them have wonderful personalities (although an aggressive one is a nightmare!)

Newfoundland the slobber… need I say more?!

I said Newfoundland earlier too, and my neighbor has one. He gets drool all over their floors, walls, and somehow, ceilings. They want to have the walls cleaned and painted (because Newfy) since they're selling their house, but are waiting until after they move out or are giving the buyer a credit to do so, because it would be a waste to clean and paint the walls with the Newfoundland still in the house. His drool is impressive 😮

My Cane Corso drools only in anticipation of her food, but my Labrador can do that too. My Corso is not super saggy with a lot of jowls like some are!

Brave thread! 🤣

Brachy dogs
Anything bully/mastiff, I find them ugly
Sharpeis, ditto
Akitas, they scare me
Anything massive or guardian types
Anything where I can see it’s bum hole

I’m a bit stuck on springers, so I’m probably not qualified to comment!
Are you me totally, I have a JRT but spaniels are totally my thing 😍

Based on looks - chihuahua, French bulldog, pug (convinced these are not of this planet), old English bulldog, English pit-bull terrier, sharpei, doge de bordeaux and other mastiffy breeds, boxer, komondor, dachshund

Based on trainability - Most terriers, most hounds, pretty much all toy/fru-fru dogs, sheddy noise specialists (huskies, malamutes etc)

Based on heck no - any breed originally bred for fighting can just get directly to heck without passing go.

Would be much easier to list the breeds I find acceptable i suppose. We've been lucky in the sense that most of our dogs have been mongrels/crosses and either inherited mostly positive traits or wound up with no clear idea of what they were supposed to be other than house pets.

Tempted to go and angry react 😡 everyone had the temerity to say spaniel.

I don't know why but this thread is hilarious. I'll also add; most of the bullys and mastiffs. I don't like anything stronger than me and I'd be upset if people crossed the road when they saw my dog. Also the dogs that can't breathe/are designed for their backs to go out though some of them are lovely people.

Also, Chinese crested. Just why 😂
