Tempted to go and angry react 😡 everyone had the temerity to say spaniel.

I don't know why but this thread is hilarious. I'll also add; most of the bullys and mastiffs. I don't like anything stronger than me and I'd be upset if people crossed the road when they saw my dog. Also the dogs that can't breathe/are designed for their backs to go out though some of them are lovely people.

Also, Chinese crested. Just why 😂

I love Chinese crested dogs!
I’ve groomed 2 (still do 1, but sadly the other has passed away) and they are absolutely gorgeous little dogs and so cuddly.
I’ve got him in tomorrow actually. Can’t wait to touch his sticky skin 🥰

Anything with slobber, bleurgh! Terriers except for borders and definitely chihuahuas. I like Chows, my auntie used to have them and they were lovely.

Labradors don’t do it for me either. They are however my partners preferred breed. So tough to avoid. Aiming to steer him towards a Golden Retriever instead next time 🙈

I wouldn’t have anything with a squashed face, a bull breed or a guarding breed. Just not my type of dog.

My preference however is a Cocker Spaniel - which features on plenty of others bargepole list 🤣

I've met equal numbers nice/awful cockers. I think there's something really special about a nice black working cocker who is a well adjusted person but I couldn't risk it. Golden shows have been in my experience less nice, maybe there's a prolific awful breeder near me or something.

Can somebody actually explain why the difference in cockers? Are they just a victim of their own success and people pay less attention to breeding for temperament?

Love all the other spaniels though, and setters.

I love the look of Akitas, but I know I'd never cope with one. I generally want a good natured, relaxed and biddable dog.

16 years ago I'd never have thought I'd end up with Labradoodles but since then I've have had 3 and a Cockapoo😁

Most individual dogs, I can like / see their good points but it doesn't stop me being angry that anyone would deliberately breed a basically non-functional dog. So a no from me would be anything brachycephalic, too small, too big, too long, too deformed or too prone to cancer. I also wouldn't own a dog that is "categorised" in France as I can't be dealing with the extra paperwork and stress.
When searching for a breed my criteria are not heavier than me (or in the case of my second dog, combined weight of dogs not heavier than me), not too long hair, doesn't need to see a professional groomer, doesn't drool excessively and doesn't need to wear a coat. Oh and it also needs to have actual fur, so no hairless dogs.
Yep, not fussy at all...

Everyone knows a 3 quarter JR with a pinch of chihuahua is best anyway….
This is the best-guess mix for my friends little dog and I would die for her. She is the best little creature. The chi just gave her slightly googly eyes and anxiety 😂

I haven’t met that many cockers but my Nanny had a wonky failed show dog who was the dopiest, softest boy. He ended up with diabetes and pts quite young so the breeding was definitely not top quality there but his personality was just lovely. He was a little snuggle bug. She got a Sprocker after him who is also very sweet but mad as a box of frogs and strong as a bull. Terrible, terrible choice for a woman in her 80s with bad joints all over the place 🙄

Oh and my auntie has a springer who bites. I still love spaniels!!!! My family are just really bad at dogs!

Frenchies and pugs are probably top of my bargepole list

My MIL also had 2 rescue bassets and whilst they were lovely and brought much entertainment with them I would never have one - stinky, stubborn and love the sound of their own voices 🙈

I think lots have been used to breed poo things and the breeders haven’t bothered to check temperaments before going to the bank. ☹️ I read somewhere that reds are more prone to rage. An acquaintance has a couple of black workers, lovely dogs, she used a well known breeder who is all about temperament.

I‘d love an English setter, they strike me as large springers, sadly really uncommon. Many Tears has a deaf one in, but not a good example, imo (not the deafness, just doesn’t look like my ideal setter)

I've only ever known one and it was an evil little bugger 😂

A friend of mine has a black cocker Edward his absolutely gorgeous and they breed and train retrievers for gun dogs but he is the only one they have and she says his one of the best dogs they have ever had.

See to be honest, any dogs that aren't mine 🤣 and anything that isn't a GSD.
I do deal with lots of different dogs but I can't remember coveting anyone else's in a very long time.
There's breeds I admire but will never own.

My toxic trait is that I feel like everyone who says this would change their mind when they met mine. On account of her being objectively the best dog in the world😂

ETA-- pleased to not see pointers pop up on this thread yet.

When still at home we tried a rescue basset hound for a weekend. It went back as my father could not cope with a dog that trailed its ears in its food bowl.

Mine hasn’t got the Googly eyes or anxiety luckily, other than his huge pointy ears you’d not know there’s chi in him (imo!)
Daughter has a half and half chihuahua x and his eyes are a little that way, he’s also a pretty emotional kind of dog!

I know so many lovely dogs of various breeds that I really like but wouldn't live with. This thread has made me realise I am first and foremost a collie person.
I’m definitely a pastoral group/herding dog person … collies, shepherds et al. There are some gundog and working breeds I like or might consider but realistically think I’ll stick with collies and shepherds.

Mine is dobermans, when I was about 10 I got chased by two of them who were meant to be guarding somewhere but had got out, I have never run so fast in my life, they were seriously scary. Now I'm sure there are very nice friendly ones but I'm just terrified of them now.
I wouldn't own any bull dog types either, although all the ones I've met have been lovely they just don't appeal. Also, aikitas and huskys, all the ones I've come across have been nice but they just make me feel uneasy and very aware of how easily they could kill me if for some reason they stopped being friendly.

My breed of choice would be a collie.

Based on trainability - Most terriers, most hounds, pretty much all toy/fru-fru dogs, sheddy noise specialists (huskies, malamutes etc)

Sheddy noise specialist - im stealing that phrase 😂
As an owner of a malamute can confirm they do whatever they want, wether you like it or not 😇

I saw a guy in lanzarote with three of them, and I asked him ‘can I touch them’ 😂
