Not a "FOR SALE" post.
Just curious as to what price you paid and what breed & experience they had.

Mine was: £800-
14hh Gypsy Cob
Knows absolutely nothing and is really being trained from scratch!

What about you?

My 2yo filly (TB never raced) was £800. Fell in love with her temperament and stand by that decision. She is super sane and just gets on with life.

My gelding (out of a WB mare by an advanced event stallion) was £3000 as a six year old. Rather green but I'd been doing him myself since he was four so only myself to blame for that :p

At the time : 15.2 dark bay ID x TB mare 6 years old, broken late and had done bugger all, had never jumped and bucked me off the first time I tried her £1950.00  still bought her and still have her 7 years later my horse of a life time :)

14.2 Welsh x tb was bought from north wales for £700 as a 7 year old done nothing but hack, won national championships 1m10 with her 18months later and the UK Finals when she was 9, she's 23 now and still fiery as ever but retired to hacking with a few jumps.

15.3 KWPN, beautiful but grumpy! Paid £1750 for her as the owner had to sell her quick but was worth 4k easily, until she did her suspensory ligament and is now a broodmare (hoping to go into foal in March) Brilliant showjumper, jumped 1m 45 easily but wouldnt jump a log for dear life!!

17.1hh TB X ID, absolute A-hole, bought him last year as a psycho - literally!! Did everything in his power to try and kill me and his old owner (hed shattered her leg in 7 places and kicked someone teeth out) but i could see his potential so bought him (no-one knows why i bought him!! lol) but now he is fab, dressaging above 79% only at prelim but i dont 'do' dressage, jumps anything, learns quickly, hunts twice a week. About to affiliate him, Brilliant horse. Paid 3k for him, was offered 7k for him a few months ago but i still worry if he'd go backwards and revert to trying to kill someone if he changed hands.

Now looking for another one of him to do it all again! x

i like hearing all your stories. it really is a case of dig veeeery deep into your pockets to get the experienced ones then.
and obviously everyone has put lots of work in to their horses too.

Im really struggling as i was told to get mine as she would be a "perfect novice" pony and she is far from it. i rode her and she was ok. got her home she bucked me off and i ended up in A&E.
as a total novice not only for horse ownership but to riding as well this should have been a chuck the towel in moment. But after 2 months of ground work, i rebacked her and we are hacking for 10 minutes, all be it jumpin at EVERYTHING that moves.

is it just going to take time to get her going? or should i be looking at professional help? i dont think shes ever been schooled!

im glad it seems i *cough* (dad) didn't pay too much then!

Until very recently had never paid over £2,000 for a horse. Just got a new one thou who broke this budget by some way lol.

He also bucked me off when I tried him out :)

14.2 from an overheight connie, sired by a local tb stallion who did lower level bs, be, & hunting. But 22yrs ago this spring when low level was higher than today. Bought as a 2yr old, halter broken etc but rather nervous, & wouldn't tie up or have legs or feet touched.£800 & that was all those years ago. If I could find another with the same temperament & ability now, I'd gladly pay thousands given how she turned out.
Daughters pony was £10 as a yearling 4yrs ago. Dam was a mini, she's matured at 11.1 but very fine. Hadn't done anything, except been left to rot, & learn to be fear aggressive. Again, was a bargain.

13.3 hafligner bought him as a rising 7yr old for £1200 alot of money for what he was/done. He hadn't done alot apart from being pass from pillar to post, until the dealer decided to send him to the market as she said he was *Dangerous* & couldn't put her riders at risk any longer. I bought him of a couple that had bought him from the market & they only kept him a year & the husband just hacked him western style. I just fell in love with him & wanted him home. Nearly 7yrs on he is still with me :)

14.2 heinz57 bought at 4 now 5 so had him a year. Paid £1550 for him with a bridle. He has a fantastic temperament & was going lovely at the time, but we have had a couple of set backs, but I plan to do bit of everything with him sj, xc etc.

14.2 cob who was rising 6 when my mum got him & he is now 10 or 11 (can't remember :o). She paid I think £1650 with tack & he has been perfect for her. She just hacks him & I occasionaly do a bit of jumping on him :)

My old TB x Connie mare was £1500 10 years ago, 8 yo ex riding school/horseball/polo pony, sharp as a knife and a bitch to boot. Had her for 8 years, best little mare I'll ever have, heart of a lion, gallop of a racehorse and turned on a sixpence. Sadly lost her due to injury, after she have me my gorgeous boy... Don't know of he counts, but

Gunner- now riding 4, £250 stud fee and a lot of hard work and patience! Well worth every second.

Ru- section D ride and drive, was 10 when I bought him, done trials for three years, some driven showing and shown under saddle to county level, £3500 as a driving schoolmaster to start me off driving.

Also in the past...

Polly, 12.2 welsh x was 4yo and unbroken, £700 and after a year and a half with me she couldn't cope when I sold her pair bond (tb mare below) and went to pieces- gifted her back to her breeder for a lifetime home. She's now doing pony club with her brothers and sisters and the breeders grand daughter.

Moose- 10.2 13yo just gelded Shetland, ride and drive and a complete saint with kids, total git with adults and popped 2'9 like it was nothing! £250, sadly lost to strangles

Another Daffodil- ex p2p mare, phenomenal paces and straight as a die, I bought her for £1700 without sitting on her... Found out that she was the best happy hacker going and would hunt all day long, but ha the softest mouth going and any form of contact made her object strongly, so sold as happy hack/broodmare for £1000.

Section D

Bought as a 2.5 year old wildling colt. £100
Spent approx £400 on vaccs and gelding

backed at home then sent to a pro for schooling
A real gent in every way and tries his heart out.

Spent £5k on a weanling of top bloodlines and proven performance parents who had the nastiest and most uncooperative temperament ever, was plagued with no end of soundness problems.

Sometimes you dont get what you pay for!

Nothing

He's a 14.1hh British riding pony who went overheight. He was 18 when i got him and had hunted, shown, pony clubbed, he drives, will happily turn his hooves to anything
He'd been on loan a couple of times as friends daughter had outgrown him and the last home had family problems so we got him on loan and then friend gifted him to me.
He's now 23 and he means the world to me

My old loan arab the Owner wanted £3,000 for her as an 8 year old. Bearing in mind I had had her for a year on loan and re-broken her as you couldnt even get near her with a saddle and she was a nightmare to handle on the ground and had barely ever done anything under saddle. I didnt buy her though in the end.

My WB colt was £1000 back in 2009 at 3 months old :D

£100 each for my two section A boys, they were 2 years old, well handled and had had a saddle put on their backs. Now Goose is certainly my daughters pony of a lifetime, they are like soul mates...still holding out for Chips, I dont like him but everyone says he will be a cracking pony. He is only 4 now so just out in a field, handled everyday and will be sent away for proper schooling and backing next year.

£2000 for cob, rising 5 15.2 he looks like a shire x gypsy cob we think. he is a little green but safe as houses unless you want to canter then he throws in a cheeky buck but we are working on that.

5k for my ex RDA/ riding school (never shoul have been there) 16hh hormonal stroppy mare who i always describe as being just hard enough for me to be interested. she is a sport horse and dont novice eventing and medium dressage. i like my dressage but love the fact i can just get on and she knows what shes doing even if i mess up. shes a perfect first horse for a confient rider whos ridden for 18 years befor getting a FH. i did get a tack and two rugs with her so probs only 4,500k. she was 14 when i got her and is not 16.5 and apart from needing more food in winter she has been perfect so far.

£1300 for my 15hh tb. She was 12 at the time and extremely green so we did probably pay too much for her. She is now 19 and training medium dressage.

£1700 for my 2 year old spotty pony. I think I got a bit of a bargain as he has a temperament and paces to die for! He is now 5 and doing bd dressage and s brilliant all rounder.

£475 for my little exmoor mare as a untouched 2 year old. Trained and backed her and sold her as a 4 year old but swapped her for:

3 year old connie x Id/tb. I had the exmoor up for around £1200 which I think is a bit of a bargain for a connie x. Backed her within 4 weeks of having her and she is now chilling in the field ready to start her dressage career next year!

11.2hh welsh A x mare 11yrs old lead rein pony. Bought as a 2nd pony for my daughter (then 6yrs old) but ended up getting a lead rein pony because we couldn't find a 2nd pony that small!! Was a superstar who loved to jump paid £750 (10yrs ago)

12.1hh palomino mare 5yrs old. Rescued by a friend as was going for meat due to her being a complete nut job & terrified of everything. Bought for £300 off a friend for the daughter who was then 9yrs old (7yrs ago). Brought her on, got her jumping BS sold 4yrs ago for £3200 :D

Current boy - 14hh palomino & white Irish cob gelding 9yrs old. (Daughter then 12yrs old) Had done a bit of BS & some showing & xc. Bought for £4k. Had him for over 4yrs now & has excelled in everything :D

I've never paid over £2,000 for anything in my life, and the last two horses I've had have been free! (And they're both registered PRE's that the owners couldn't handle). Have ridden some very pricey horses for owners, though, and TBH I don't think that money buys you anything more than skill and having a good eye can bring you.

I've tended to buy quality but cheap horses, so I've always had quirky characters

But my Mum recently retired & she spent a part of her lump sum on the most expensive horse we've ever had. She's a 5 year old, arab cross hunter mare, who's forward going but quiet & doesn't hot up, she paid £3250 which to us is a hell of a lot of money but she's proved to be worth every penny.

Roo-£800 exracehorse to become a eventer
Quam- nothing exracehorse to become a eventer
Hana £2000 eventer
Bugsy-£1700 eventer brought her when she was 11
Annie -can't remember how much we got her for but it wouldn't of been much
Wes-£2000 but he came with everything
Tilly-£2000 was meant to be £4000
Max- nothing
Sam-nothing
Larry-£1000 at the ascot sales
We haven't ever paid more than £2000 and five of them horses have gone on to be novice level eventer

Much too much - I bought the winter before all the prices crashed nearly 5 years ago! Saying that, he turned out to be a little star competing at everything and anything with my daughter but as I bought him for a hack for me, I did pay too much at the time.

Pip - as a yearling compleetly wild, never had a headcollar on - £800 (far too much!)but is now worth every penny of that at 4yo, super fun, super safe, great jump, super on the flat and such a doll

Maii - 5yo, had hunted done and done sponsered rides and not alot else - £1500 - mum bought her because she eneded up taking her on a sponsered ride when her loan horse went lame and she was amazed that she stood still whilst out on the ride and she didnt jog, by this point i think she had forgotten the horse careered off when she tryed to get on nearly knocking several people over

Cody - unhandled foal 3months old - £200

£600 4 yo TB x Cob 16.1hh mare from our local newspaper.

Was headshy to bridle and terrified of traffic. We're now getting out and about doing local unaff shows and shes great :D

I'm a tightwad and would never spend over £2000 for a horse :p

£3000 ex riding school eight years old ish does bit of everything and worth his weight in gold to me,
16.1 Skewbald.
He is the most I've ever paid for a horse but don't regret a penny
