I've just been though this with my mare, put a bridle on with a lunge line attached, so at least if she did have a good buck i could get out of the way and still hang onto her. The vet did give me Sedalin and said to give it to her if she became to much of a handful.
With joint fluid you'd find out within a day or two, but when they tap the joint they'd have a pretty good idea by the colour if they think it's likily to be infected.
Having it a week late will be fine. The only time it'll be a problem is if you go somewhere where they require upto date vaccinations, and if thats the case will need to have the whole course again.
Speak to your insurance company and they'll let you know if they'll cover it or not. I think most insurance will only cover a second opinion if it's refered by the vet currently treating your horse.
Yep i had this happen to my horse. She went out with a group of mares and the dominant mare would heard her away from all the others, the only horse she was allowed to talk to was her, but they were always together. She is not a dominant mare at all and won't stand up for herself so went along...
Your pony sounds just like my horse. My vet is looking into a couple of possible causes for this behaviour and thinks she may have gastric ulcers which is causing her behaviour. She's booked into to have this checked out next week and will let you know if they find anything.
My only concern about buying a horse with scars on their knee's would be whether or not they would be excluded on insurance. I wouldn't buy a horse that would have joints excluded, but if the insurance company are happy to still insurance them then i'd be happy to pay what the horse is worth...
Yep, my mare hates rugs with a passon, and i have to avoid front legs striking out and teeth flying at me. Vet has seen her reaction to rugs and said she shouldn't react like that to rugs and through process of elimination has come up with two possible causes for it gastric ulcers or problems...
Clean with water only, don't put anything on it, only bandage if you need to put pressure on to stop blood flow.
The vet will need to know
- how long ago the injury was found
- when was the horse last seen been the injury saw discovered
- If you know how the injury was caused
- Is it's jabs...
My horse is grumpy and evil, and hates having her girth done up or a rug put on, and bucks a lot, but doesn't have classic symptoms of ulcers, but from my vet seeing her behave in the way she does he thinks it's highly likily she has them, so i'm getting her checked out to be sure. If your...
