Am I making the wrong decision?

I don't think you are making the wrong decision to PTS. Horses have no concept of what they want to be up to tomorrow or what lies ahead of them. They are also designed not to show pain so if yours is lame walking about and struggles to maintain soundness then I think you are making an informed...

Sprenger Bow Balance & Leg position?

Same problem with mine - but I do have a bad habit of heels too far down and wedged forward. I went back to normal stirrups and worked on my lower leg. Real shame as I did like the flexi stirrups.

Horse injured collateral sesamoidean ligament- resting hind limb

Thanks for your reply and everything crossed for a speedy recovery for your horse. Vet advised danilon over weekend to see if it would help my boy stand on both back legs. However so far no change. The only time he stands with weight on the back leg is if his head is in his feed bucket or he...

Horse injured collateral sesamoidean ligament- resting hind limb

My horse recently went to vets for work up as was lame on near hind. Had came in from field very lame and we had initially treated as abscess. The next day his leg had swollen and his fetlock was hot to touch. Still thinking abscess and slight improvement in lameness I poulticed again but...

Non horsey parents think everything a waste of money

I am slightly surprised that I am not alone! I have very non horsey parents. My first riding lessons were funded by my pocket money and I had to catch two trains and walk a mile to get to the stables. My first loan pony was funded by a Saturday job. It's never been easy but it's certainly...

    A fundamentally flawed concept

Huge congratulations! That was so funny! Love the trying to convince the judge your fat by eating :D my solution to all pregnancy ailments was to eat - great cure for nausea and heartburn for me! I really should've been a whale yet spent half the time telling people I was pregnant and not fat...

    Clinics in Scotland

There is someone who arranges clinics with David G once a month over winter season in fife. I can share details via pm if you want. It depends which discipline you are aiming at. Most of those trainers are eventing/jumping. Jill Grant is super for flatwork. Yvonne Macfarlane is great all...

How long do minerals take to improve a hoof?

As title really? I always thought you had to feed for 9 months to see the effects from top to bottom but looking back at my boys feet progression from when his shoes were first removed it does look as if the foot changed quite dramatically in just 12 weeks? Any one care to comment? Or share...

    Barefoot on livery

That's really interesting about the hind gut being a summer issue. I've never heard that before. I can access litmus paper at work so will certainly try a poo test! I'm working myself up to a chat with yard owner about feed. I want to have a say back in what he's fed, it's actually getting me...

Pics to accompany my barefoot on livery thread

That's probably one of the only things I haven't tried. I'm currently using dilute hydro peroxide and athletes foot spray. I actually think that they look a lot better this week. But it is swings and roundabouts. Will bear that in mind though. Thanks again

Pics to accompany my barefoot on livery thread

Apart from the happy hoof and lack of barefoot balancer my horse isn't on cereals and he is in work six days a week. He is fit for lower level eventing as sound on surface and on grass, we are due to do hunter trial on Sunday. Livery set up is difficult for me as yo is not for barefoot at all...

Pics to accompany my barefoot on livery thread

He's more of the careful type according to trimmer. I will perhaps just start hoping off on last ten mins home to let him walk over the abrasive surface. It also means I can pick out any grit ASAP from white line. Rather than have it pushed up during the whole hack. I will also try short walks...
