Can you get Thunderbrooks feeds where you are (Base Mix + Herbal Chaff), reduce grass intake and give good meadow hay? Increase movement (exercise + track system/paddock paradise) This is the advice I am following, and horse is looking well (and healing an abscess). My farrier is fairly...
Thank you for answering some of the questions I was about to post! My inexperienced traveler (9yo 15.1 arab) managed to turn and get wedged across the trailer (no partition) when tied with a single bungee, on a trial trip (I planned to cross tie but forgot in my anxiety over the whole...
Which are your favourite Jodhpurs/breeches for the winter? I love my Musto Snugs, but really want some 'sticky' ones for this winter - any suggestions please?
Don't give up! Susistokes2 speaks sense - and I have had to relearn stuff too after a lifeltime of riding - it is possible to adjust and build your confidence with new abilities. A supportive, thoughtful instructor will help you through it. Choose wisely - someone who 'gets' you and you feel...
Thanks for your suggestions. I haven't found one to fit his arab head well. The showmaster looks good, or I might try a field safe head collar and nose net, as he doesn't need his whole head covered. He really will not let anyone near his nose with sun cream of any sort :-(
Thank you! (I am definitley not into 'serious' dressage, btw - all that tension). I have heard QHs are versatile and have good temperaments. When I am ready to buy I will definitely look at QHs :-)
I will be looking for a new horse soon, for hacking (including all day hacks and holidays), Trec, pleasure rides etc. Must be calm natured and good in traffic. I will also school & continue with lessons. I like the idea of a Quarter horse - can anyone recommend them - or advise against them?!
Could be a 'flight' response... maybe he's worried by everyone charging off, he doesn't want to be left behind. If he's thinking 'I need to be with the others' then he will get himself with them however he can, and bucking could be his way of ignoring your 'stay with me' messages to him. And...
My old horse has a similar problem, had 2 teeth out last spring. I had to use a hosepipe to wash out the gaps while it was healing, and there was no infection as a result. She wasn't too impressed either, but it is a soft hosepipe and she got to quite like it. I just rinse out her mouth every...
Thank you. When you search 'saddle' on amazon or anywhere, you get hundreds of awful 'saddle club' fiction to sift through... haven't found a good 'history of saddles' text book yet...
Bear in mind horses naturally like to follow each other, mine is very gregarious too! I sympathise with your situation. I haven't any great solutions for you, but maybe spending as much time with your horse as possible (eg when not riding), really attending to him and interacting with him...
