    Mallenders - best treatment?

I have had a fantastic result with Dovobet Gel . My husband has psoriasis so had some of this from doctor. However he finds Aveeno is much better so had some gel left. Thought Id try it on my cobs legs as it is similar to psoriasis too much skin growth. After 4 days applying twice a day it has...

    Sallenders - bleeding

Udder salve is the only thing that stops it getting scabby. Need to put in on every day though.

    Gentle shampoo/body wash

I use baby bath stuff for a quick wash down. No need to rinse it off. If its gentle enough for babies must be ok for horses

Trimmers Or Clippers To Hog Mane And Trim Legs?

I tried the liveryman trimmers but the blades were blunt so quickly and at £16 a set was getting expensive! Bit the bullet and bought some Lister star clippers. They are brilliant ,big blades but nice compact body so are easy to manoeuvre round legs. Great for body clips too Love them.

    Advice please: hairy leg management

Red Biddy udder salve is great stuff for mallanders. My cob has it on both his front legs and this is the only thing that gets rid of it. Apply every day and it softens the scabs so they can be rubbed off or trimmed with scissors. Its an ongoing thing though so you need to keep up the treatment...

    joint supplements? which one?

Equimins Flexijoint, brilliant stuff! My 15yo cob was very clicky in all his joints when I got him 6 months ago and prone to tripping.Very short striding in walk and trot. Farrier had trouble getting him to lift hind legs. All these problems disappeared in about 2 weeks. He walks and trots out...

    Pigs 'n' ponies

My old boy was terrified of them! He would grow springs on his legs half a mile away. Even when they'd moved he was the same. My bombproof cob knows they are at a farm nearby and will stand transfixed listening. Couldn't understand why he didn't want to pass a certain house, then I saw there was...

Which brand of rugs for a cob?

Amigo XL rugs are made for wide cobs. They are brilliant, extra room on chest and much deeper.

    Thick dry skin on fetlock

I find udder salve, rather than udder cream brilliant for any skin problems. My cob gets scabby behind his knees and this softens the scabs better than anything.

Mud Fever - how on earth to get rid?!

The only things I found that worked were Bepanthan nappy cream or Red Biddy udder salve, better than the udder cream. Cover scabby bits with cream and cover with a disposable nappy and bandage overnight . The scabs lift off easily. When all the scabs have gone I kept dry nappy on for a while .

    Chaff or no Chaff?

I now prefer Allan and Page fast fibre. Soaked with double the amount of water to pellets. Ready in less than a mi ute.Seems like they are getting a lot but its mostly water. Less messy than chaff and all mine love it!
