A horse I ride but do not own has been having intermittent lameness for 6-9months as documented in another thread. I thought that she might have something going on with the foot - I was thinking it might be linked to laminitis as she also showed signs of being footsore. Whatever the cause I was...
Wow.... the cheek of that vet.
Ignoring that. No I don't think you are doing the wrong thing. She sounds like she has 'work ethic' when she's not in pain?
However, if she does keep getting flair ups and they are linked to when the work starts to get increased then I'd try everything I...
I went through a stage of losing my stirrups cantering (I've been riding 20+ years so it's not always beginners) and I was tensing my hips up (injury related). Losing stirrups is usually tension in the leg or hip and it sure is hard to tense without stirrups ... ;)
You could do some BHS courses if you wanted. Otherwise you either buy and have a very helpful yard owner whose aware of your inexperience. Or put them on full livery at a reputable yard and ask lots of questions. Or if you are lucky and find the right owner take up a part loan first and learn...

Yes absolutely.
Would there be any harm in shoeing her if she does have either? She could do with getting fitter hacking but I don't want to end up with bruised soles.
Absolutely agree Michen, you have to adapt to the horse and the day. I don't always stick to plan if I don't feel it's going to work/is counterproductive. I think a lot of training hot horses is not getting to the point that you blow their minds.
Its also why I won't jump one XC yet as even...
Because "horses will be horses" she came out perfectly sound this morning  Never would I feel annoyed about a horse being sound but it does complicate issues! EMS/Cushings is an interesting thought but she doesn't have any coat changes, fat deposits, change in energy?
I think this is the difference between a hot but not overwhelmed/out of control horse and a horse that's losing the plot! I've got a mare that dances, swings about and can look and feel very hot. But if I say walk, we can walk. Oddly the same is true for her napping out (a work in progress) she...
