I did it with a mobility scooter and crutches after knee surgery two years ago! It was the funniest day of my life :-) we made it the whole way round the cross country! It was tiring but I had two good friends who helped me out all day. I paid for it the next day but it was vital for my mental...
I actually find it helps to make a joke of it - I am open and honest about it but not in a woe is me way - in a 'well you know - I am not drunk just dyspraxic hence why I just tripped over my feet' etc. I share funny ancidotes about the stupid things I've done etc. It makes people feel less...
Hi
Fret not firstly. I am severly dyslexic and dyspraxic and at 29 am coping just fine. I did an English degree and have a good job. I also ride. The trick is learning what your tricks are. Everyone has different coping mechanisms - these so called learning difficulties give you...
Hija
No ideas on the BE circuit I am afraid but my mare had KS surgery in September as well and we are still going through her rehab. With regards to getting on him, time will be the only thing really. We've been standing her next to a mounting block, then progressing to leaning over her...
My mare has KS, when I asked the vet what caused it she said that it is conformational to start with, but that because she was an ex-racer it would've been made worse by being broken and raced young. She also said that a lot of horses have it and get along in their own way coping with the pain...
Thank you for sharing. She looks fabulous!
My mare had the standing surgery on 7th Spet 2011 and we are still in the rehab stage with her getting her strong enough to ride. We're two rein lunging and up to walk, trot and canter.
How did you know your mare was ready to be ridden? Did you...
Can't help with livery yards but I am just going through rehab with my mare following KS standing surgery to remove 3 DPs and wanted to offer my support.
Hope all goes well and if there is anything I can do please let me know.

Mine all came with names, but I changed them over time.
River became Roo Bear or Fatty Bang (bang) because he'd bang the door for feed.
Luca de Carlos (not shouting that down the field) became biscuit - Ginger Nut Biscuit.
Bella came as Florabella and her old owner called her Flora, but...
My OH is autistic and has a wonderful relationship with my mare. Infact the first 6 months I had her she preferred him to me. He'll do anything round the yard, is fabulous when things are stressful or going wrong, comes up at least once a week to get his 'fix', comes to shows etc. He also...
Can I join in the winter blues and request for Baileys. I'm about 1/2 way through rehab for my mare following Kissing Spines surgery and we are at the joyous - she has to trot but only in straight lines stage. Cue me spending a lot of time running behind her on long reins trying to convince...
It is hard in the winter, but we moved to a yard with an indoor school so that makes it a little easier.
The programme I was given has been changed around a little as I felt it was too aggressive for my mare - she is not the sort to tell you its too much so was worried about doing too much...
Thats good.
We're now week 13 post surgery and week 4 of long reining and Bell still has two raised 'ends' of her scar - vet said this scar tissue will go but over a course of years. It stayed very swolen for the first two months - until the stitches all disolved into the muscle.
She is...
