    There's always something!

Horse came in from the field last night fine had obviously been having a run about before I got there as he was covered in mud from head to toe! Hosed legs off and nothing to be seen, this morning pulled him out to ride and had a slightly swollen front leg just above the fetlock with slight...

    grass glands?!?

I just thought it was unusual for this time of year? Especially considering it's the first time he's had them? I always thought it was more common when the new grass started coming thru and thru out the summertime?

    grass glands?!?

One of my horses came in tonight with a really swollen gland only on the one side it looks awful its swollen right up to his ear! It's squishy and he doesn't seem to bother me poking and prodding at is and is eating his tea. It looks like what one of my other horses gets in the summertime...

    neurotic horse!

So decided that it would be a good idea today to ride my horses around the stubble fields after having 5 days off which isn't generally an issue but today there must hahave been something in the air apart from it being bitterly cold with a brisk wind!! The first one would have put any grand...

What are your 3.5 year olds upto... advice?

I broke mine in September and worked with him until we established the basics and popped a couple of x poles, he's now been turned away for the winter with a herd of other youngsters and will be brought back in the spring time and get ready to do some age classes hopefully! There's no rush...

    Horse knocking poles

If he is big and gangly then it will take him a bit longer to work out where to put his legs and work out where they need to go you just need to keep working at it and one day the penny should drop :) but all these little exercises will help strengthen him up and i wouldn't jump any bigger until...

    Horse knocking poles

Agree with what's been said against the whole giving him a smack every time he has it down...i think thats the worst piece of advice an instructor could ever give anyone! It's just ridiculous! As previously said all your going to achieve is a tense horse and he will either start stopping or...

    Need to vent a little...

Yes amyway she is now being charged for full livery as horse has had to be brought in because thE weather has been awful and couldn't expect the other livery to leave her horses out in that weather because said livery can't be bothered with her poor horse! This morning she appeared and had...

For those with multiple horses - why?

'Because I can' is definitely a good enough reason for me :) I currently have 5. Two are retired though and are now field ornaments living the good life and I recently aquired the 5th One so now have 3 which I showjump! I have seen another one that I really would like to add to the collection...

    Need to vent a little...

NeilM you are exactly right, people do see owning horses as a status symbol which is just ridiculous. If you're not willing to put the care and attention into your horse then why bother at all, it is just neglect at the end of the day! Willhegofirst yes the YO and myself have tried to get in...

    Need to vent a little...

Exactly, it is beyond me how people can leave them for so long without coming to check on them it just shows how little they care for the animal in my opinion! No, thankfully one of the other liveries has kindly left her two out to keep him company until we get it sorted out. I don't think she...

    Need to vent a little...

A new livery arrived at the start of last month for DIY and has hardly been seen the horse has basically been dumped in the field and has been ridden around fove times in the last 5 weeks... now I know it's up to the owner how often they ride there horse but those 5 times that it has been...
