1. 1 horse 2 ponies
2. Very sunny Somerset
3. Horse shod every 6 / 7 weeks ponies trimmed every 12 /14 weeks
4. £70 per set £20 per trim
5.Very happy with my farrier, he's brilliant, excellent at his job, takes his time, makes sure the shoes fit the horse not the other way around. Doesnt mind when i ask a million questions as to why he's doing what he's doing. Always turns up on time if not early (bar once but that was an accident). Kind and considerate esp with the nervous pony, never rushes him. Comes out at the drop of a hat if the horse throws a shoe as he knows his feet arent the best at the mo. Just a very nice bloke!

just a thought, what is the reason for this survey?

[/ QUOTE ]

did i need to have a reason? Im just curious thats all.

Im interested as to what is going on farrier wise across the country and am pleased to see so many positive responses because i have seen a lot of ''farrier bashing'' on these forums. And a lot of it is unfounded i have investigated a lot of the claims and there was no issue to start with. But some were not and there seemed to ba a lot of bad farriers out there and i was curiousas to whether this was truth or mis-information.

1) two horses
2) Wiltshire
3) one shod every 4-5 weeks, Fitzwygrams in front. Other is unshod & trimmed as needed
4) shoes are £70, trim is 20
5) extremely happy with him for many reasons - keeps the big lad sound & comfortable, is good with the horses, always turns up when he says he will, is a nice guy, is always available if there's a problem. Is that enough?

) number of horses - 2
2) location - one in Shrops and one on loan in Northants
3) what your horses have done feetwise and how often - Big horse has normal shoes every 6-8 weeks though will have lateral extensions next time on vet's recommendation. Little horse out on loan did have nice normal feet however loaner's farrier left them much too long and low in the heel, so after I created a fuss he has now trimmed them right back and is putting backs on the front to create more stability.
4) what your farrier charges - I pay £60 a set for my big horse, despite him being a shiverer and therefore a bit tricky to do. Not sure if it will be more for lateral extensions. I don't know how much loaners pay.

and the most important
5) are you happy or unhappy with your current farrier and WHY?? My farrier is absolutely fantastic. He turns up on time, he is reasonably priced, great with the horse (v patient with my shiverer), nice guy to chat to, always got time for a cuppa and a chat...the list goes on! I am less happy about the farrier my loaners use as it shouldn't have taken me to complain for him to do a good job of the pony's feet, but they're sorted now so that's all that matters. But def happy with my farrier

1) 1.
2) Derbyshire/Staffordshire.
3) Standard shoes, stud holes (2 per shoe), 6 weeks.
4) just gone up to £55 (inc. stud holes).
5) Happy with the new 1 (switched to him last month) as I was unhappy with the 1 I had used for 3.5 years. I was unhappy with the former 1 because he was totally unreliable and incapable of communicating (ask him whether he could come out before an ODE, and I'd get no answer - he'd either turn up without any warning between 7am and 7pm, or not at all).

Between 34 and 36 horses, all at our yard. All those being done are warmbloods or part warmbloods.
Every six weeks they are alll shod and trimmed - sixteen horses have stud holes put in.
We are in the siberian provinc of Russia
Overall, each horse is (According to the online converter anyway) .
I love our farriers - a father and son, they've been doing our horses for almost 20 years, are always on time, and don't care that we steal them for one weekend out of every six!

1) number of horses - 7
2) Staffordshire
3) 2 full sets, 2 fronts only, 3 trims every 7 weeks
4) uhmm don't know, my bill is roughly £220ish?
5) Very happy with my farrier, he treats me seriously, listens to my observations and does the job accordingly, in 3 years I've used his services I had ONE lost shoe! He's not the most punctual but turns up on the day within 1 hour of original time, never moans, is polite and has lovely sense of humour. His very patient with youngsters and puts up with a naughty one.
In fact, I'm so delighted with his services that I'm trying to convince him to still come out to me when I move, I'm even considering buying more horses in order to make it worthwhile his eventual 130 mile journey

5) Very happy with farrier (Lewis Walker). My TB has typical TB feet and he spends his time ensuring a good fit. Very good with the horses. Turns up on time (to the nearest 15 mins) and comes very quickly if lost shoe/problem etc. Changed to him 14 months ago after previous farrier started to not fit shoes correctly (TB lost 3 shoes in 6 weeks!)

One man band. Im not sure i ever want to take on an apprentice. I know how many are graduating every six months and soon there may be more farriers than horses.

not as many cut the mustard tho and stay in the job!
still a huge shortage of farriers in some areas. i girl i know in cumbria used to box her horses nearly 2hours to mine to get them shod. i work @myerscough with the farriers, and theres not that many other colleges offering the dip now, especially with the closure of oatridge.
i reckon its still a good job to be in, even with the current market!
not an easy one tho, thats for sure, and not many work thro to retirement so i guess you have to even the wages out over the working life!

2 Horses, in Northumberland

One has garduated egg bars with filler every 5 weeks ish (£100)
Other is standard shod every 5 weeks (think £55-£60)

Very happy with farrier in some ways, un happy in others.
Alwasy returns call, on time, comes out next day if lost shoe etc. Does a good job on a good set of feet. However does not try to correct bad feet unless under vet guidance (which he doesn't like)
