That is so awful and my worst nightmare. Poor little old dog and its family. So often small dogs are just of no account to large dog owners as was probably what happened here. I doubt there was 3rd party insurance, hence the lack of apology was accordingly due to lack of awareness and ignorance than not wishing to admit liability.

I doubt they were worried about liability or any kind of repercussions. What happens if your dog kills somebody else's? Nothing. The lack of apology is more likely to be either feeling ashamed or because they don't GAF. ETA:agreeing with you here, but reading back the phrasing didn't come out like that! Apologies

It's my absolute worst nightmare with my little oldie, and the reason I rarely take her off my own land these days. For that to be the way a beloved old friend goes out is just beyond imaginable

3-year jail term for the man and woman who owned the XLBully that attacked a 9 year old boy in Ireland causing devastating facial and psychological injuries. The man was also convicted of inhumane destruction of an animal: he beat the dog to death with a plank after the attack. It was the second time it had attacked a child in 3 days.

Indeed. The mental trauma for the victim's owner would be terrible and lifelong. These cases should go to court, and appropriate damages should be awarded.
Could not agree more. When my little dog was nearly killed by a staffie, the police were not interested in taking further action. Never mind the huge vet bills, subsequent insurance hikes and ongoing physio/hydro needed, the psychological impact was huge and we were lucky enough that she survived. Dogs killed or seriously attacked by other dogs are not given the legal protection they should have, and personally I’d go so far as to say that a dog that kills another person’s dog or seriously mauls it should be muzzled for life in public and PTS if that is breached. Owner should be paying a very large fine at the absolute bare minimum.

There was something highlighted by the Southend dog trainer, I know not everyone likes him but it came up on the reels on Facebook, it was an xl bully being hit by a toddler and he said, in his usual swearing way , how wrong this was and that the parents are to blame , also that child will grow up (if he lives) to have no respect or empathy with animals , he said they shouldn’t be put in charge of a goldfish …. I think they shouldn’t be in charge of any animals and it’s debatable whether they should be in charge of the child…
