Poor rabbits

"Chunky has never seen a cat, however, he has seen plenty of rabbits and loves to give chase around the garden until they manage to run for cover"

There's another one on there that can't be with kids due to a bite history

Chunky looks to still have a chunky set of testicles as well. I hope his sister has been spayed..

The other evening I gave someone a lift home who was telling me about a friend of hers. The friend's son has broken his leg and while he's in plaster, has moved back in with the friend along with his dog. I said 'does she have to walk the dog for him?' and got the answer 'yes but she doesn't take it very far, it's one of those xl bullies'. This sounds like it could end very badly, xl bully moved into strange place (a small bungalow, apparently) and only getting short walks...

This happened near me today

Two XL, who have escaped earlier in the week and were aggressive, got loose again today and attacked an elderly lady out with a small dog. The small dog was killed.

The XLs then proceeded to attack 2 cocker spaniels. They were taken to the vets and are now back home (owner posted on fb to thank everyone for help).

Apparently the owner is "known" and has gone on the run. Armed police were on the scene, I don't know if the dogs were dispatched there or taken away but they are both dead now.

Not going to lie this has really worried me. My dog doesn't have a single self defence bone in his body. I know to let your dog go if attacked so that they can run, but I really worry he'd stick by me and I couldn't save him.

I'm lucky that my parents have some land, and their two neighbouring farmers let me walk on their property. I honestly think I'm going to stop my [on the lead] walks around the streets, parks, and forestry.

What could help in a dog attack? I'm pretty sure a stick wouldn't stop a bully type in attack mode. Is there anything else I could do, should know or something I could have on my person as some form of protection?

I also broke my moral code by replying to a post on the community page. As you could imagine, it's been alight with posts about the incident. Some sick £@%& not only stopped to take photos of the deceased dog but then posted them online. The page admins obviously deleted the threads with photos and are now suffering torrent of abuse. I did reply because I am absolutely sickened that we live in a society where people think it's OK to take photos and post them online. Some poor woman has lost her dog in u speak able circumstances and been injured herself. People 🤬

That's absolutely terrible and terrifying.

I once had two loose Dobermans run up to my two, and I thought to myself, if it kicks off, I really don't know what I can do about it. A Corso and Lab would have more of a fighting chance than a smaller type would, but still. Fortunately the Dobermans got sick of getting shocked (had shock collars on) and eventually recalled after standing nose to nose with mine. We were just walking down the road through a neighborhood.

Such an unsettling feeling.

It was a rhetorical question with a rhetorical answer. Obviously if there's two you're buggered.

Yeah, I was picturing what could happen.

ETA. As we've discussed on here before, I don't know if I would have the strength to choke off a massively strong dog like an XL and haul it off the victim.

And how do you stop it redirecting on to you?
There’s loads of theoretical things ‘one’ could do but tbh I think you’d just be buggered, as AM succinctly put.

When I got fed up with out of control dogs interfering with my dog, I took to carrying one of these-

A wave in the general direction of all the ‘it’s okay he’s friendlys’ is usually enough to keep them at a distance, sometimes a persistent one might need a poke.
I hope that if we were ever confronted by something seriously aggressive, then being repeatedly stabbed in the face by a metal spike might be enough to deter even an XL.

This is my worst nightmare. I have two small dogs. One is reactive and weighs a whole 6.5kg and the other is about 6kg. I am so careful to avoid the reactive boy getting into face offs with big dogs and he has never actually "done" anything but am always worried about him starting something and the bigger dog retaliating. I pop a lead on if I see a big bouncy dog or another on lead dog for both of mine. However if something attacked either one they wouldn't stand a chance. They are small terriers with small teeth and tiny mouths - they would struggle to fight properly. I am small myself and older now - I could not strangle a 30+kg dog if my life depended on it (which it might).
That poor poor lady - how do you ever recover from that? I hope the other two dogs are also ok eventually.

There's an article in the local Courier

There were 3 bull breed dogs carrying out the attacks.

The two attacked dogs, that survived, were German Wire Coated Pointers not cockers like I thought. That's even more terrified that two big dogs were attacked and seriously injured.

Apparently there were a further 2 or 4 dogs at the property. They have now been removed and placed into kennels for assessments and won't be returned.

Well today I had to post a rant on my neighbourhood site. It is full of wailing, hair pulling, chest beating idiots.

A woman posted to say she was distraught because she ran a rescue and she had arranged transport and handover for a pregnant dog due to give birth to 8 puppies in 5 weeks time. The dog was PTS by its cruel wicked owner and wicked wicked vet and wicked wicked wicked policeman....... I'm sure you can guess the breed. So it must have been an unregistered one not spayed with an owner who bred from her. She was 5.

People were saying how traumatic and what terrible people they were who did this. They wanted the vet and owner outed on SM.
The OP then said that the dog had an injury and had only been aggressive because she was defending her unborn puppies.

I could stand it no longer and had to say what sort of rescue breaks the law offering to rehome an unregistered pregnant XLB. I also pointed out PTS was not a terrible thing as she would not be able to be legally rehomed and nor would puppies. The rescue idiot then went on to say "she might not measure in fully as an XLB she looks a bit short but police think she is the "type" " . The injury came from fighting with the other XLB in the house that was the sire of the pups. She seems to have bitten a person as well. Both dogs have been PTS. Rescue lady wanted to keep the 8 darling little pups until they were 2 and could be measured to see if they qualified as XLB or just "types" in which case she could then rehome them!

It didn't go well when I said they weren't furbabies but potential killers with known aggressive traits in both adult dogs likely to be passed to pups. Also said years in kennels and rescue would not be conducive to producing good pets. I said PTS need not be traumatic and was in line with the law and frankly was a good outcome all round. The owner of the dogs should be prosecuted for owning unregistered dogs and breeding from them.

I am of course as wicked as the vet, the owner and the policeman. People are crying on the site!!! It;s not the dogs faults - it is the owners etc etc. Yes I know it is the bloody owners but it is also that they are illegal dogs behaving in a dangerous way and pose a threat. Oh no not if they are well treated...

I give up. I don't know why I even read it never mind said anything but I am so angry that people are up in arms that 2 aggressive dogs and 8 potential puppies are out of danger themselves and not able to put others in danger. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhg sorry for the rant.

Misst, I'm with you 100% no question. What lovely dogs the pups would make 😬. Well done you for sticking your neck out.
Sadly I think my rant fell on deaf ears. I'm hoping the rescue has the sense not to name the vet involved 😟. These people seem positively unhinged rambling on about furbabies and cuddly big bears and innocent babies. It's exhausting. I've deleted it for now as it's making me a bit unhinged😂

It so hard to back off sometimes. But remember spheres of influence v sphere’s of concern. It may concern you but if you definitely can’t influence anything then try to proritise your blood pressure.
I was shirty with someone on here via WhatsApp last night as I was grumpy and what they were saying was infuriating. Sometimes you have to sit on your hands and 🤐 for your own sanity.
But… well done for saying it!

Your "ramblings" as you put it will have fallen on deaf ears. There are non so blind as those who won't see.

Don't let it make you unhinged, these people are 😁

On a daily basis these poor dogs are either left to starve/killed brutally by owner or just dumped.

Then you get the other bunch with the fur baby stuff who totally dispute the dogs will do anything but lick you.

But the reality is these poor things are just not suitable to be in our society. It's just not their fault they were bred to be the dogs they are.

All devices have an old fashioned off switch which I find myself using more and more often. :) Can't trust myself to sit on my hands in case I get an itch! 🤣
