Any thoughts ?

I hope Rocky's spine isn't involved and that he makes a full and speedy recovery. I'm sorry you are having to go through such a worrying time OP, I am keeping everything crossed for Rocky (and you).

Just spotted these updates. I'm relieved that you got a quick diagnosis and resolution foe your mare.

I am so sorry to read about Rocky. I'll be keeping everything firmly crossed for him and wishing you all the best x

Only just seen this thread. I'm glad it's seeming a bit more positive and crossing everything he keeps on improving 🤞

this mornings update is a positive one .
His temp is stable at 38.3 . They have xrayed his back and that’s all good .
His bloods have changed, his SAA levels have increased and white cell count up now. So vet happy it is a virus . We obviously caught the virus early before the white cells had a chance to elevate.
Where on earth he has got a virus from is a mystery as other foal is absolutely fine . Non of ours have been off the yard either

Huge relief. I wonder if it was inadvertently carried by a human between horses - one of those frustrating situations where you'll never know but hopefully he'll shake it off.

this has been on my mind. We have a young girl come and ride a bit for us, she works full time on a large stud. ( 90 foals this year ) . She has been cuddling him / helping turn out etc. i might ask if they have had any sick foals

Definitely worth asking, as is a possible route of transmission.

Even if they haven't had any seriously ill foals, it is still possible, as their horses may have some immunity, and thus the foals will be less or even un-affected clinically.
