I’m so late to this thread, I hadn’t realised you’d emigrated, let alone have any idea Jack/Boggle has put himself, you and your mental and financial resources through the grinder. It’s taken me two hours to read through the tears and trauma, hope and despair and want to add my 5 cents.

I can’t disagree with anything you’ve done on behalf of Boggle. None of it is, or was, down to owner-error so let’s get that out of the way.

How you aren’t a basket-case is something of a miracle. Despite your daily breakdowns, ice cream, ‘fortified beverages’ and ‘medicinal herbs’, you’ve thought rationally throughout and your heroic efforts to take in, disseminate and act on information about the current and immediately pending situations are nothing short of phenomenal. I know you ran ‘a couple’ of scenarios past the HHO massive/collective but you’ve made good calls throughout and been rewarded (albeit briefly) so far.

Neuro stuff is unpredictable. Very much a wait and see, time-heavy waiting game which is at least pain, if not risk, free.

I’m so glad you’ve been able to afford him all this treatment. All of us would want to be in that position, faced with what Boggle has thrown at you and I wouldn’t begrudge him a penny of it. You’re both undeserving victims of very unfortunate circumstances and the overwhelming interest and support of the forum has to have been of comfort. I hope so, anyway.

I join with everyone who has been cheering you both on through this nightmare and wish you and Boggle out the other side in the best shape possible.

My vet says you can never say never with horses, and it cuts both ways. He’s also quite the realist, so usually what he says is the worst case scenario. I’m hoping for the best news from you very soon. No pressure, Boggle.

I’m so sorry this has happened and remember the early days when you bought the two project ponies, and watched them progress. I wish you and Boggle all the very best.

This is one of those posts that I’ll re read when it all feels hopeless. Thank you- so much. Great to see your name again, I think you’re one of the few who remember him as Jack 😊

Huge, huge thanks to all of you for every comment/cheer/pick me up/everything!!!! It honestly is so comforting.

No improvement in Boggles gait, but there is a massive improvement in his ability to get up from a roll. At the weekend I watched him stagger a few feet whilst getting up and found it terrifying. I had images of him crashing into the stable wall etc. I didn’t want to get my hopes up but having now witnessed six of them today… you’d have to be really looking to see anything. I guess maybe he’s just learned to cope, but my HOPE is that it’s because he’s improving. I no longer have the fear of god in him when he goes down. Which is great because he loves to roll and it’s somewhat stressful!

I’ve been at the barn for 16 hours today and just about to crawl into bed, stretched out his sucralfate (gastro drug) to give him as late a dosage as possible as it’s only effective for 6-8 hours. Really want to make sure his stomach is comfortable after everything he’s been through/going through.

I. Am. Shattered.

It’s great that he’s able to get up comfortably from a roll - that means he’s one step closer to doing proper horse-ing. I realise it’s different because it’s a different species and we had a confirmed diagnosis but your thought processes are very similar to mine when my puppy came home after meningitis. We didn’t know how much damage, if any, he was going to he left with and the first few days were so upsetting as he was still so very disabled. But he didn’t realise (as he was a puppy) so very determinedly wobbled his way around the house and gradually became less wobbly. We’d watch him like a hawk with each medication reduction in case he relapsed but so far (touch wood) we’re seven months down the line and have a happy, bouncy dog who can run and jump and play. I’m keeping everything crossed that Boggle keeps improving.

Would a plug-in Wifi repeater work in the clubhouse? They're not too expensive and we have rubbish internet at home and it really helps.

Found a solution- my English phone gets good enough 4g to hotspot! My American one just stays on SOS. Thank you Vodafone, and for an international travel plan that caps it at 6 pounds a day.

I am not condoning Boggles terrible behaviour (I promise he does actually spend lots of time being nice to other horses but he really does require them to ask permission to move closer to his fence line before he does that) but this is very encouraging to see! He wouldn’t have done this yesterday, he was all meek and mellow whatever they were up to.

Bog is getting back to doing important Bog things like ruling this world of his that we all just live in 🤣

He’s been turned out all morning and bar when I need to nip out later I’m going to leave him there and sit in the sun 😊

If he improves is the plan still to move to the other yard or will you then stay where you are?

No I’ll still need to move. Even if he made some utterly miraculous recovery and was normal this side of Christmas I still wouldn’t be thinking of doing anything other than ground stuff with him until next spring.

And I’m not for one moment thinking he will fully recover anyway. So moving is inevitable, he can’t stay here for more than a couple of months without being in full work.

Plus, I still think a barn in the foothills will be easier on him this winter. That weather report is already making me anxious. Ycbm called it a few pages ago that I’d just be forever worrying about him slipping etc on the snow/ice.

Neuro stuff is so weird/interesting based on your experience and others in this thread. Sort've seems like you just wait and see because the outcome could very well be alright.

So glad to hear that Boggle is doing well, all things considered.

A year ago today Boggle boarded his flight to LA. What a fricking rollercoaster. Quite literally the best and worst year of my life so far.

Instagram/Facebook memories are not my friend right now!

I really feel that. Especially over the past few months where I constantly had FB memories popping up of the horse that I had to leave behind 😭

I’m not imagining it he has 100% made an improvement this morning. He was walking with his head lower down than usual, like he was on a long rein, before. He even just tested out a little trot! And felt happy to push me down the hill in this video. He looks far more “normal”

Come on Bog keep going ❤️❤️

He is so funny but you can so see he likes let them all know he is the boss and his obviously is feeling alot more like himself 🥰

His so like Arabi over a fence with other horses but Arabi is now 19 and should know better but will happily stand on his hind legs roaring like a bloody lion for days on end.

I have to gradually expose him to the horses next door when they first go out or he will seriously damage himself.
