I pressed "post" too soon on my phone 🤣

Anyway, what I meant to say, was that you have a wonderful support system! Even though you've had a lot of sh*t come your way, solutions seem to be there.

There's nothing "wrong" with your current barn, but what if it's just Boggle's bad luck charm and at a new barn he has zero issues. That'd be great. 😜

Once OH is back, I should have more time, and could attempt to make my way to Boggle. I have to meet this character. I'm invested 😂

If I'm still here next summer, Ronaldo could come too. I do fear Ronaldo and Boggle meeting/being in the same vicinity. That'd be too much character in one place 🤣

He’s very himself! I took him for a walk around the barn, along a short trail and he was a fire breathing piaffing dragon. I also saw him have his first big buck and launch into canter affair in the paddock which was great, he needs to be able to do that.

Christ, I will have my work cut out for me keeping him entertained. I’ll have to teach him sit 🙈

Today is day one of packing his stuff up!

My next dilemma will be whether I carry on treating for EPM. He's done the loading dose, so it would be $1300 ish A MONTH for another two months. With the likelihood of it being EPM pretty low but not impossible.

Sigh, the answer to that is of course yes. So typical that he showed he'd been exposed to it on the titer instead of a nice obvious zero.

See, rent savings, barn savings...;)

I think I read solidly about EPM on a group last night for 4 hours.

It was interesting to read of people’s experience that vaccines, and steroids, can set their horses off (it’s a disease where relapse is about 20%).

Well he had both within two weeks. And a hell of a summer fighting pneumonia. I do wonder…

Obvious improvement yesterday was Bog going from 0-60-0 without scooting his bum under like he had been, almost a delayed stop behind.

I never posted this photo because it upset me so much but here’s how he would stand grazing down hill. He stopped that pretty quick tbf and stands normally now.

I have the most “alternative” person coming to see him today and I’ll say no more other than when you are desperate, really desperate, sometimes even the most scientifically minded of us will look elsewhere…

It’s about to dump with snow all weekend which will make moving him Monday and a neuro test challenging. Not due to be above -5 for two days. Then back to late teens and warm.

Sometimes you do! He's come such a long way since I bought him home though, when I think to how utterly broken and sick to my stomach I was over him to how he is now- it may feel slow and small but actually it's not. I don't panic when he reaches around to itch himself, or worry about picking up a foot, or feel like I need to make him walk 2 mph down a hill, or feel nervous leading him out of his stable. those are all things that have just faded away as the days have gone by. It was only 17 days ago that he was so ataxic, the vets thought we'd have to sling him.

Makes me pretty emotional when I think of it like that!

Hope you get some comfort from the "alternative" source. In your shoes I too would use all avenues available ....

Hope the weather isn't as bad as predicted. Minus 5 over here would be end of world but over there they r geared up for it so I'm sure u will be fine.

Thank you! I've decided to postpone moving him on Monday to friday next week instead, so I've done my trip and can then keep a close eye on him over the weekend. Hopefully snow will have melted off by then as well so it won't be such a big deal if he arrives there all fresh and silly and starts mucking around.

Things I have learnt this morning… my truck is not as good as my small SUV in the snow 🤣 Need to put some weight in the bed.

Boggle is mooching around very happily/easily in the snow although it’ll be when it’s compacted that’ll be more of a worry. I am so glad he’s barefoot!

Forgot how utterly beautiful the snow is, it makes everything really quiet and magical. Feeling excited for some skiing now 😃

Btw Caol- the i70 has NOT been ploughed, I assume they can’t be arsed until ski season starts 🙈

Hey team Bog :)

We had our vet follow up today and she is thrilled with his progress. He is now a grade 1/almost nothing behind, and a grade 1/2 in front. We are even more suspicious now that it's EPM, apparently the ataxia being more apparent in front fits more with EPM than a neck issue. Also the fact he's holding his tail to one side, the history (pneumonia, etc). It's so DAMN unlucky I can't believe fricking believe it and I'm still devastated (and vet does still think the chances of a full recovery are still small- aka to being ridden again).. but I do think this is a better option than it being his neck.

So we continue with the crazy expensive per month EPM medication and the vet wants me to start doing some poles, in hand work etc to help rehab him a bit. I think even if he can't ever be safely ridden, I should still be able to keep him busy/occupied and happy. I hope.

And who knows, he's already surprised her at his level of improvement. Let's hope he can be one of those miracles, again.

I went to the new barn to set up his stable today, here's a pic of it! He should love the run though I feel for the horse next to him (he doesn't have one on the other side and if he's too much of a monster, I'll put a space between them). Going to move him on friday.

Oh and a cute Pepper/Bog pic from last night

That is amazing progress, he's such a little trouper.

Gosh the snow is lovely, and that new stable/pen setup looks ideal. What is it on the ceiling of the stable?

Thank you! I actually have no idea, insulation of some sort I'd imagine :D

That's interesting M, about being worse in front. That does make spinal cord impingement as the cause sounds unlikely, because my understanding of that is that the nerves for the back legs are on the outside of the cord bundle, so the ataxia is (always?) worse on the back when the cord is squeezed from the outside.

Yes I think that's what the vet was saying. It's gutting, he wouldn't have got EPM if he was in the UK :( So I feel, yet again, that I've wrecked him by moving him here. And to get it in Colorado where it's so rare is just unbelieveable.

But it is what it is, and something else could have happened in the UK I guess. It's just hard.
