I know you would prefer me to say this than think it and not say it, but your side on picture suggests that the saddle needs a rear riser, M, unless the photo is misleading.

Send me Atlas if you don't want him, I think he's super!
.

Thanks! I think it’s maybe misleading, I am ok with it for now for the very short amount of time my arse is in it. I did send a bunch of photos to a fitter to come to that conclusion though rather than decide it myself. She’s going to come out once he’s back in Colorado.

You could try putting the saddle a bit further back and a little riser at the back to level out
the weight so its spread more evenly and not concentrated at the rear of the saddle, and so you can sit in the middle and be more effective and safer, perhaps better
Balanced if he has a spook, and so he can bring up his back easier when ridden

Don't they have fulmer loops over there to stabilise the bit

You re doing great

Hope you don't mind the comments

Not a finding fault at all, he does look tense in his throat lash like he's on alert

Thanks! All helpful and appreciated, I am pretty at peace with what I’m doing at the moment. I’m sure I’ll make another mistake soon though 🤣 He’s never had the fulmer loops nor does he seem to miss them, he’s only really in that bit as it’s what I had in the trailer.

He is looking tense because there’s a load of bullocks in a pen where there aren’t usually, which is why I got off to lead him up to them and let him see them for the first time close up. He’s only ever seen them in the pasture from a distance and that caused a lot of snorting so I wanted to be on the ground to give him clear confidence to see them up close.

He now loves cows.

I always used long full cheek (fulmer) bits to back young horses and never used fulmer loops. They cause a single jointed bit to poke straight up into the horse's palate and are unnecessary on any mouthpiece.
