A very fun weekend! On Saturday we did three hours hacking after our cow clinic was cancelled. Today we went to an unaff event. I took a friend in the trailer who Bog got extremely clingy to which made for a very hot dressage. Somehow he manages to not feel the need to scream or even be remotely bothered about said friend in the jumping phases though…strange that. He spent lots of time cantering during the trot work, with his haunches out. Not sure what movement that actually is in the dressage world but it felt very impressive 🤣 He came 8th despite this with a nice double clear and a steady xc (actually almost on the optimum time!). Just adding a mere ten penalties to his dressage test from the other week 🤣

Video was very zoomed out so a few clips. A little fiesty the first few fences but I was so pleased with the round after that. I tried a jointed sort of small Pelham and whilst it’s still not quite right I found it much better than the universal. I’d love to keep him jumping in a snaffle like he does at home but it’s just not feasible when he’s out.

And, he’s looking a million bucks. That said I’m trying to ignore some really odd neck clicking and cracking. The kind you’d expect from a carrot stretch but it happens even if he turns his head. Repeatedly. Both sides. But no other symptoms, still super flexible with his stretches and usual range of motion. Absolutely no different under saddle. Getting a second opinion by another chiro vet but it’s really odd and it’s been going on a few months now. Vet doesn’t seem concerned but I can’t help but be.

Probably no more eventing until autumn now, and time to get back to my second favourite place in the world other than aboard Boggle. Underwater :)

My worst nightmare came true this morning and I found Boggle colicing at 6am. He was in serious distress but by the time the vet got there had perked up. Rectal was fine so he’s had fluids and banamine and I’m heading back to stay with him all day.

I don’t understand why though, he had drunk plenty overnight and eaten up all of his hay (he usually has a little left over).

Absolutely distraught, this is how it started when I lost Basil to colic/subsequent broken leg standing up from surgery.

He’s very cross that he’s got no food and turnout so I’ll take that as a good sign but I know only too well how they can perk up and then go downhill.

I don’t know what I did wrong, they are about to go on grass turnout a few hours a day every other day so I’ve been building up hand grazing him for ten mins up to an hour over the last week. The grass here is bright green it’s rained so much and is so rich. It’s the only thing I can think of.

A little late to the party, just come across your thread and have been catching up on your adventures. Fingers crossed, and healing wishes being sent your way for your lovely boy, and a hand on your shoulder in support, I know how stressful and nerve wracking it is when this happens x

Oh gosh, come on Bog! The start of the post was amazing, he looks fantastic. How you’re ever going to cope with the slower Xc times I have no idea!! Fingers crossed and sending vibes.
