Everything crossed here. I’m sure they will run bloods but definitely check for viruses, I had one that presented with colic like symptoms but it was a secondary symptom to a nasty virus. 3 nights in hospital and lots of liquids and he pulled through. Lots of bugs out there that will be new to Boggle’s system, especially as he has been out and about a bit recently. Good luck xx

Sending such good vibes! Have you been in touch with anyone else that was at the event you were at? Wondering if maybe the grass had been sprayed with something or if there is a virus going around!

Same happened to my horse, when I had him on loan before I bought him. Was treated for colic but didn’t pick up and then the vet realised it was secondary to an infection. Soon sorted with antibiotics (which brought him out in hives, but that’s another story!).

Sending best wishes for Boggle and a hug to you, Michen. Be kind to yourself, you haven’t done anything wrong.

I don't think there's a horse on the forum who has more people rooting for him than Bog. You must be beside yourself with worry, I hope you're OK yourself. In case you haven't heard it enough yet, YOU DID NOTHING WRONG.

EVERYTHING crossed here for better Boggle news today.

Thank you. He’s such a good drinker when he’s out and about, he drunk plenty all weekend. Even this morning he had drunk a normal amount of a little extra. It wasn’t even hot, it’s been 20 degrees and raining!

I refuse to believe that this is where our story ends, he’s in his prime.

well done M for acting so quickly, you have done everything possible

insects at this time of year, i have an american vet dictionary, they have their own bugs going on, worms too can be variant in different countries, i have a horse that presents with colic like symptoms if he gets bitten by a certain fly, so i do not let it happen now i know.

if fact another mare years ago had the same reaction

hoping today brings better news and some reasons, please remember to eat and drink.x

Thanks so much for all your messages everyone. It’s 3.30am so I think I managed a couple of hours sleep.. though I feel like I just woke up to my worst nightmare being a reality

No news is good news and I haven’t heard anything from the vet hospital so that’s a relief.

Some really good points/ideas in these posts and sorry not to reply to all of them. I had a huge bite and welt on my leg after Sunday.. and I guess there’s plenty here that he wouldn’t have been exposed to. I gave the vets a very thorough run down of everything though so I know they are running every test they can. Apparently the virus (a coronavirus- who knew horses who get them?) test won’t be back until Friday as it goes off somewhere.

I wish I could go sit with him but they have strict visitor hours and you can only visit once a day for 20 mins at a time in the ICU. I understand, they won’t want owners floating around in a wing full of very sick horses. But obviously I’d be camping out in his stable if I could 😞

It’s going to be a long old day.

But a lot closer to you. He's in a good place. Who needs money anyway?

Exactly. I pulled out my American Amex and then realised that was definitely not going to cut it- I was thinking UK prices in my head! I can spread it over a few cards but they said colic surgery can come in at 25k. 🤢🤢

I have the truck and trailer to release the cash if I need to.

Fingers firmly crossed for Boggle. As always, you've done everything you can and more than many would do. He's in the best place with the best care and hopefully, he'll make a good quick recovery.

Hoping it doesn't come to surgery.

This is every owners worst nightmare, thinking of you and Bog and hoping for the best outcome. No one could ever doubt your dedication to him, it is absolutely not your fault. We all know how fragile horses are, these things tend to come out of the blue with no warning at all.

There's a lot of "stuff" in the US which is why there are like 10x more vaccines (in comparison to most of Europe). So he could've been exposed to something he just doesn't have the immunity to, but he's in the best place to have everything managed. When I doubt, I always just go to the clinic!

Sometimes horses (because horses) just get sick. Nothing we could've realistically done because we cannot keep them in a sterile bubble! But even then, they'd come down with something!

I'm so distraught for you though, and anxiously awaiting better news on the Boggle front! I loved watching your recent videos, he's a total legend! Everything crossed for him!
