No, the vets are still baffled. None of the other horses in the yard were ill. But, I am the only one who goes out competing so maybe picked up something out and about, who knows!

Neither did I! I was so shocked when she had it. She didn’t even present as a typical lamanitic, just felt a bit stuffy so took her back in and that was found. It’s certainly been a learning curve!

She is so much better and got some really positive x-rays 2 weeks ago. Thank you!!

I really hope your looking after yourself too! It certainly takes everything out of you when they are poorly. Xx

Gosh. Horses really do find the most interesting ways to try and end themselves.

Great news re x rays I hope she continues to improve! Is she still coughing? How are her lungs?

It looks like this but he extends the leg right out and waves it too 🤣 he started as a 5 year old when he’d get reprimanded for scraping when tied up. He considers this fair game as there’s no noise element to it so no telling off.

He is always finding ways around things 😆

My retired eventer does this for the same reason (told off for kicking doors / scraping)- we call it 'giving his paw' lol
Its a universal signal for 'where is my slave I want some... (food / attention / turnout / bring in / delete as appropriate)

It is good for at least 24hrs steamed in a haygain I only do mine once a day summer or winter no problems. Yes do make sure it has a cut off switch for when the hour is up it is so easy to forget. My steamer is in a barn though not outside but I have never had the hay go yukky on me. Though my grass is a rye grass mix so after it has cooled it is quite crisp . I like filling my nets before it has totally cooled.
This - I steam once a day with no issue, which is consistent with the haygain advice. Hooray for Bog feeling better!

Don’t they just!!

Thanks, we have everything crossed! The vets were really worried about the laminitis but she seems to be bouncing back ok!

No coughing anymore and it was horrendous coughing to begin with. Her lungs now are clear but I think she seems more sensitive to dust than she was before. And, with it being so dry over her she did get a bit of a snotty nose but vets were too concerned.

Just got the go ahead to start some in hand work so will see how she copes with that!

I don’t think that’s sad. You have other things to finance- grown up things! Not spending stupid money on a ball of brown fury wenched out of a bog in Ireland 😆 I, however, spend my money like I’m going to die tomorrow.

If this has happened a few years ago, whilst I’d have still have found a way to finance it, I’d be absolutely beside myself with how I was going to ever pay it off.

A couple of times I have really questioned my life choices when faced with a horrible vet bill and I know that it is possible or even likely that my inability to afford a really huge bill may be the end for one of my horses. As everything I do is centred around them (generally Way of Life speaking) and they are very much part of my own sense of identity, purpose and joy in life that can be hard!! But I have never found another way that works so that is how it has to be. But even money can't always help a horse so that helps me to balance things a bit lol. Hope you sort the Haygain; I think they are wonderful things and Boggle will probably adore steamed hay. :) It is lovely when you can do stuff to help so I am really pleased you are thinking in that way. :) :)

Chucking money at a horse to keep them alive isn’t necessarily right either. I’m never sure about the ethics of colic surgery, I’d do it, but that doesn’t mean it’s right. Plus, your horses have an excellent quality of life, better a shorter one like that if something expensive happens than one where they are treated like machines but kept alive for the wrong reasons.

I’m sure he will love it! And it’s so nice to be able to do something proactive instead of just sitting here.

Fabulous news - you must be so thrilled.

I didn't want to write earlier having previously lost a horse who had pneumonia - but he also had colitis and colic so was a very sick horse. He got over the pneumonia and colitis but then had what the vets thought was a stroke.

I have only just caught up with this, I can't believe the rollercoaster you have both been on.
I am SO glad you now have such positive updates from the vets - Bog really does have just about the best owner one could wish for. You do everything you can for him and it really shows.
Look after yourself ❤️

Best news - I gave all mine a carrot and hug this morning as this just reminds you how much they matter and not to take them (or their 💩) for granted! Well done Bog!
