Hat Rack!!! He looks fab in those videos . You would never know he has been so ill, mind you I expect you could well end up being the hat rack by the time you have paid off your vet bill :)

I’m weirdly chilled about it. It’s sucks but I’m not going to let it control living my life. Once it got above 20 and looks to settle nearer 40 all in it was always going to be a bank loan anyway. I’m seeing it as a second student debt 🤣 I’ll pay it off one day and in the mean time work lots to get more commission rolling in!

It's hard to believe you won't be hacking out before the end of the year, M. I hope so for your sake and his. Will there be a point soon where you can lead him out for walks to get the movement to assist in clearing his lungs? I've surprised myself by really enjoying leading Charlie out when I didn't think he was fit enough to ride.

Aww he looks fantastic for a horse who's just been through what he has. Made me think back to that scraggy dull brown weedy creature you first had delivered all those years ago. Even after a severe illness he still looks a million miles from that pony now.

I’ve been thinking the same! It’s almost like we’ve come full circle. Something about seeing him a little vulnerable.

Can you imagine if I knew then when I was posting about what a difficult little s*** he was that he’d be a horse I would fly across the world to stay with me and then spend a monumental amount of cash to save his life even if it meant he could just live happily in a field forever?

Ha ha, clever Bog. Ensuring his human loves him more than anything 🤣

I don’t want to dare to hope! The vets were so pessimistic about athletic capabilities. He’s also not really a happy hack, he needs a variety of work and hard work to be remotely sensible. But if he can only hack because of his lungs, maybe he would be more sensible because he would feel it more? I don’t know. I feel like with him things are all or nothing and if he can’t do anything other than hack then maybe he’s better just fully retired.

But one day at a time. Whilst the vets were pessimistic they don’t know Bog and there’s a huge difference between his ability to go around an xc course again vs maybe do something a little more.

I could hand walk him now but I think he’s doing enough himself to be honest, for the moment. We have grass pasture now so he will go out on that for an hour or so in the next week too which should help encourage some gentle movement.

Hand walking Bog strikes fear into my soul! I know he will be a complete tit!

Wow he's looking amazing and has that glint back in his eye. So so happy for you both. Your barn team are great - what a wonderful way to welcome him home.

And what?!? You haven't been to Trader Joes? I have a drawer full of their kitchen clothes as they're washable and I love them! Best store.

It was remarking on a change in body smell in a horse given antibiotics that made a vet suggest live yoghurt to me.

Wonderful to see him feel like having a bit of a hooley and a roll so soon after being so ill. Just give things plenty of time and be led by him. Medics are always telling people that they are never going to be able to do things again and are regularly confounded.
Unless his lungs are permanently scarred by the infection then I don't see why he can't get back to pretty near his previous self. Age will ultimately take its toll, as it does with all of us, but no need to meet it half way so try and forget thoughts of retirement just yet!!!!!

Have a look at the herbs in this
I buy mine as catering size packs and feed a mixture of 2x large blue scoops. Started this to hopefully substitute as pony in a muzzle and can't hedge dive

I feed D&H hedgerow herbs for the same reason but they are ¼ of the price.

They are immune boosting

But I feed to feed the microbiome...complexity of vegetation

We have ended up in the UK mostly grass monoculture and if you think about horses are random foragers in the wild

Word got out that the English “eventer”s horse was down and I just had the most wonderful ride on a local ladies Belgian draft cross tb. She also had an ISH so needs another rider! He is utterly divine and I even jumped! We are going xc schooling tomorrow and his owner would be super keen for me to do some events on him. He couldn’t be more different to ride than Bog but I enjoyed him so much.

How awesome is that 😃 it’ll be great to keep properly in the saddle.

Boggle is still great and perky and himself 😍

I've met some nice draft x TB crosses in the US.

I'm so envious of your boarding situation and riding opportunities! I moved to the wrong area, which is huge part of why I'm selling. His first viewer will come this week! 😬

So glad that Bog is on the mend!

This isn’t actually at the barn I board at! Private set up.

He’s a seriously nice horse.

I didn’t realise you were definitely selling.. I’ll WhatsApp you 😔 x

Ah, I see! Still such a great offer though! I only get offered lame horses (to ride!), semi-ferals, or potentially decent horses but no facilities (you'd have to trailer a distance or ride in their uneven weird shaped turnout with other horses in it). Ah, love it here! 😂

That's literally all that there is here within 60 to 90 min. Whether you're buying, leasing, or exercising.

That's such a shame, didn't you pay to get your horse moved to the US as well? 🥺

Yes, I did.

My 10 year old couldn't be imported (piroplasmosis +) and I'm still not over that. On the other hand, he has a better life across the ocean than he could have here. So I bought (from a breeder I know through a friend) and moved the young one. It wasn't worth it. If I could go back, I should've taken having to leave the other horse behind as a sign. If there were "free returns" I would return this one to his pasture in Bavaria.

Ah well, there's more to life than horses.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Are you giving up horses completely now and staying in the US?

(Sorry to hijack your thread Michen. Hoping for a Boggle update soon!)

Giving up horses completely and leaving the US ASAP.

I'd say that I'll return to horses someday, but I think I'm just done and I've realized that it's not worth it to me anymore. Even if I do establish a nice property for myself, taking care of them properly is just...stressful. It's always something!

I think that I "peaked" with my last horse and nothing else will compare, nor will I get to that point again. Plus, returning to riding is never the same (as it would be if I kept riding).

I do have other hobbies and things to enjoy in life, so maybe I would feel differently it I didn't. I dunno.

I'm fortunate in that my 2 year old is generally healthy (knock on wood), don't get me wrong.

How the heck does Bog look like this. He nearly died a week ago!!! And now to me he just looks like a horse out of work with no muscle.

He’s not normal 🤣 Keeps his shine throughout the whole thing.

He’s planning his autumn eventing schedule in his head (not under any circumstances, Boggle). However I am hatching a plan to maybe move us to Arizona for the harshest winter months here. Going to look at some barns when I’m next there.
