Thanks everyone. I think it’s wise too. My main concern is that if something’s going on, it’s going to be hard for him to keep it ok/stable out of work where he’s lost so much muscle. It may be that whatever it was was fine because he was fit and in full work etc. So it could be something that needs treating when he’s not.

I don’t think could be that bad as he has full range of motion but 🤷‍♀️

@SEL I am 7 hours behind. So I wake up as your work day finishes. Well not quite as it’s 5.45am now 🤣

So fricking tired guys. Bog now doesn’t want to eat from his hay feeder thing despite it having huge holes. Convinced even that slight effort is hurting his neck now he’s got no muscle to support whatever is going on. He’s bored in his (large, lovely) turnout already. Putting his foot on top of the bottom gate bar and pressing it down for attention. This is not a horse that’s going to do well out of work.

In some ways it would be easier if there was something and the answer was to just retire him in Kentucky.

So sorry you are at a low point. You hve both been through alot. Can you put a large bucket with hay in on the floor so he is eating in a natural position, May help with cough as well as neck. Hopefully he can have more turnout or maybe some in hand walks.? All the coughing must have made him sore, he will take time to recover !! Is he allowed any pain relief ?

It will be a roller coaster for a while but remember you have done everything and more for him.

Hm. Maybe an herbal calming supplement would take the edge off? I don't know. I've not tried any of them but there are tons on the market in the US. Might help him cope a bit better?

As for the hay feeder thing, maybe he just doesn't like the extra effort? There's nothing wrong with my 2 year old, but he gets annoyed at restricted feeding of any kind (nets, bag, etc) but more in the way of destruction vs not bothering with it.

When is your appointment to check out the neck?

He was fine with it before though. But maybe he’s just more fussy now he’s been through a lot! He’s being x rayed right now, I’m in the waiting room with a coffee wishing it was a vodka 🤣

I just met all the team that looked after him (I never met the main vet as she went away just before I picked him up) and they could not have been more delighted to see him and gave me a big hug!

Could just be fussy.

Hopefully the x-ray is good. I mean, OH pops his neck (it's disgusting) and he claims/appears to be fine 🤣

Man, the vet bills are just eye watering!

I think given he is such a hot horse who holds plenty of tension in it, it would be surprising if there wasn’t arthritis. As long as there’s not a bit of bone or a blooming fracture…

Re vet bills it’s just crazy. This girl has taken out a loan like I’ll need to. It just seems totally standard.

We are just putting it on top of the holes now instead of under so it just contains the hay but is easy to eat out of. He’s turned out in a lovely paddock 7 hours a day but tbh doesn’t seem to want to be out that long anyway, the flies seem to be a pain for him despite rug, boots etc.

I’m reluctant to hand walk at the moment as he gets very lit up and I don’t want to aggravate anything whilst he’s still so early in the recovery.. we shall see what the ultrasound says shortly.

Thank you xx

Hope the x-ray is good news.

Just remember a cross horse is a good thing in terms of health... If u r cross or bored then u r on the up !!!
This - he’s showing his character and he’s feeling better. It’s hard to deal with when you’re not ready to do anything with him but it’s a long way from the sad Bog you had at the vets. Each day as it comes with him - try not to think too far ahead and take the positives. Like someone with a bigger vet bill than yours!

God that was emotional! The vet is amazed. His left lung is pristine, his right lung is 90% perfect. Just one patch which we have to watch for an abscess but it’s so much improved in such a short space of time.

His blood work is perfect, liver enzymes completely normal too for the first time since April.

His neck she thinks she can see the tiniest bit of arthritis but it’ll need to be reviewed by a radiographer to be sure. But totally minor if it is something.

He is unbelievable, they couldn’t believe how good he looked already. I didn’t realise quite how invested they all were but there was tons of hugs all around and some watery eyes!

She thinks if we can avoid an abscess that I may, just may, have a totally normal horse.

What incredible news! You so deserve a good outcome, you've gone above and beyond for him and it would be so sad if yours and Boggles American adventures ended here.

Crossing everything you avoid the abscess and he does make a full recovery.

That’s fab 😀 very well done Michen, you’ve invested so much of absolutely everything into Bog you and he deserve a great outcome. Hopefully you can chill out a bit and take life easy for at least a few days.

Which is why I'm not surprised! It's Boggle!

Plus he had every shot at making a good recovery; good health, good care, medical attention, and an owner that goes above and beyond for him.

Thank you ❤️❤️ I thought I’d got it so wrong bringing him here. He is going to be worshipped even more every day for the rest of his life 🤣

That is fantastic news!! So delighted to hear this but not totally gobsmacked as he was in fabulous shape, treated super-promptly and aggressively and given every chance to beat the nasties. It really sounded a dreadful experience for both of you but Boggle didn't read the book and I have certainly seen and heard of very serious pneumonias recovering well so everything crossed he continues to show pneumonia who is the real boss. :) :)

That great news about his lungs. With regards to his neck friends horse had a bit of arthritis in the neck. He had steroid injection and now absolutely fine.

Fantastic news!
Although I am another who was quietly optimistic that he would be better than the conservative vet projection, given how he looked in the pictures
