Boggle- USA bound!

I know quite a few international couples. Many opted for 2 "weddings", one in each country. Obviously only one involved any paperwork, the other was just a celebratory party for the other side of the family and friends.

Yeah, we have thought about that. But, if our wedding is only 10 people then that's cool. If it's 60 that's cool too. I think I just like the idea of one event, one day and as long as our absolute closest (parents, siblings) can be there, anything else is a bonus.

I'd also like to provide accomodation for as many people as possible. I just envisage a big villa with great food and wine and aperol spritz.

Ha! Well I can say one things for sure, I will not be spending 6 figures on a wedding. Nor will I be wearing a big white dress.

We are kind of hoping to get married in Italy as it's a place that we love. It's tricky because we have people in the USA, Mexico, Europe, UK.... so not convenient for anyone wherever we do it.

But there will be no Bridzilla here haha, truly just want the most relaxed and not overly curated wedding I can create.

We got married in Italy precisely because we had friends and family in so many different countries. We felt it was easier for us to pick somewhere neutral and we figured there is no one in the world who wouldn't like a holiday in Italy.

We found a villa we could rent for a whole week for the same price as one day at a UK venue. We thought we would have about 20 guests. We had 60 🤣

We did a week's worth of hanging out at the pool, walking in the vineyards and olive groves, eating pizza, pasta, porchetta, bruschetta, panzanella, cheeses, meats, olives and drinking aaaallll the wine. Guests went off and did their own thing as and when, and we had the wedding towards end of the week to allow a day or two for hangovers.

People still talk about how much fun our wedding was.

Ha! Exactly what we are after. I'm finding it tricky to find somewhere you can legalling get married on site though, but maybe that's something we will have to flex on.

I do not blame you! I think Villa Corra in Florence does weddings... Only know as I looked at it for a possible holiday hotel base a few months ago.

We did all the planning, booked the appointment in Rome, got the right kind of officiant sorted out, got our lawyers to speak to Italian lawyers, literally everything. Only for them to ask for my husband's birth certificate about three weeks before the wedding, which of course he didn't have and the South African wait times were up to three years with the official reason given as "due to inefficiency".

So guess who had to book emergency flights to South Africa mere weeks before we had 60 guests arriving in Italy so that we could get legally married there before the celebration 🤣 no one could tell though, because we still signed a declaration, affirming everything that we had legally done two weeks prior with me wearing a white dress that I bought from the Mango in terminal five.

Ha that sounds like the level of chaos that will likely surround me in this too! OH has a USA, French and Mexican passport and me just a British one, I'm not sure how much or how little that will all complicate things but I'm sure we are about to find out :)

Wishing you both all the happiness in this new chapter in your adventures! Horse updates or not, I am sure you will find the life you make rich and full of challenges and rewards. x

Well Atlas moved! I’m trying not to freak about the grass when he is already pretty chubby. Muzzle incoming but feel he needs to be settled in the herd before I add that.

It’s going to be tough to get him working up a sweat without a lot of lunging, obviously that many circles several times a week is hardly ideal for soundness but not sure what other options I have when he’s not under saddle.

I will also long rein in walk around the property a couple of times a week too. Ultimately he needs to be able to have an enriched life and a dry small lot for a horse not doing proper work is hardly enriching.

He seems really happy. A few bits of hair removed and he’s definitely being pushed around a bit but frankly that’s good for him! Makes my soul happy to see him back in a big herd pasture. Curious to see how things will evolve for him with the varied terrain and movement.

Wow! It looks beautiful!

When my horses are home I keep them out 24/7 in a big field with endless grass, and I have far fewer weight issues than when they are stabled and turned out for part of the day. I think they regulate themselves better if they are out all the time, and they move around more if they have the space.

Oh really!? That’s awesome to hear. Though I feel like your Arabs would be less prone to being chubby and greedy than my American version of a Connie?

The place is stunning. It’s got proper old school pony club vibes. There was a book series I read set in America when I was younger I wish I could remember the name but it’s basically that haha! A no nonsense sort of place.

Phantom? I can’t remember what the books were called though. And may not have been that at all!

No, no, my Arabs are flattered by your kind thoughts but I have been asking Mim when the foal is due for the past 18 months. And that's how long she's been on livery with 'limited' turnout (still good hours but not 24/7).

It’s definitely good to have back up plans but I will agree my gets fat thinking about grass paint pony with cushings and IR has the easiest time maintaining a healthy weight when he has more turn out in a herd dynamic and hilly acres. They walk more but do keep an eye out for ticks! Ask your vet about recommended treatments. Some places aren’t an issue and others are. Lyme ontop of epm is not a fun time 😅

Not Pine Hollow, set in Virginia? Those pictures are how I imagined that place!

I would also be cautiously optimistic about the possibility of weight loss in a big space with a herd. He'll be moving so much more.

In true Atlas style he already tested positive for Lymes at the same time as the EPM. Truly either the toughest horse for still being alive or the most fragile for all he has 🤷‍♀️🙈

Oh geez lol yeah both at the same time is rough but honestly that type of turn out is great for them. They gotta re-learn to find their footing after that. Some do better at it than others but I’ve seen some come back really well from it and able to have a normal relatively low maintenance life minus just extra bit E and sometimes selenium also
