TwyfordM, you must be out of your mind. That wait does seem utterly crazy. Hope you manage to get something sorted. It sounds really stressful :(
I wish there was something i could do to help! I expect you a a million miles from me? Cirencester/Burford area? A huge long shot i know....

I'm in Kent ☹️ but in all honesty I'd probably do the drive if it's the only place I could get booked in for an xray at this point. It's just heartbreaking to watch, she's sleeping tons, limping out 2/3 times a day for a wee and to eat but that's it. I can't let her suffer for that long, I adore her and owe her way more than I could ever repay.

The vets that I take the hedgehogs to can see her tonight as an emergency thank god. First vets I called said they wouldn't see her as she's registered elsewhere 😳 duty of care seems to be a foreign concept in vets around here!
Well thank god for that, fingers and toes crossed not as bad as feared xx

Glad you found somewhere to see her, everything crossed for her.
I’m no vet, nor do I know one locally that would definitely have been worth a trip but I’d have happily spent some time on the phone calling round for you or if I could have given any practical help if we were closer.
Best of luck

Is it due to a shortage of vets maybe? I've just made an appointment for vaccinations. I can do any time/day and the first available appointment is for 26th. Last year I was able to get an appointment within a couple of days.

I'll be thinking of you later OP. I hope you get some answers.

Possibly, most practises round here have closed their books and no longer take emergencies or have their own out of hours cover?! The place I'm talking her tonight is the local(ish) large emergency vet. They cover equine and farm etc too.

They said on the phone they don't think it can wait for an appointment slot and to bring her in as an emergency (I agree) so god knows how long before you could book an appointment 🤦🏼‍♀️

My equine vets, can usually get booked in within 10 days absolute max and they are able to use their common sense, ask the vet to call back and assess wether it can wait that long.

Just the consultation is going to be £210 🤦🏼‍♀️ but she's insured and that's my excess covered then at least

Been following and it would have done my head in not knowing and getting so little from your vets, at least you’ll have some info ruled in/out tonight. You’re absolutely doing the right thing.

I'm climbing the walls mentally 🤦🏼‍♀️
But have so much going on I'm having to keep my cool.

The two teeny terrors are a welcome distraction and are looking out for their big sister too 😕

Is she having low protein food because of her kidneys? A couple of our terriers had kidney problems as they aged and went onto low protein food.
Hope you get some answers about her.

I really hope you get some answers tonight. I think I'd be emailing your other vet about how disappointed you are!

Be reporting them ...

She's in now having scans on her abdomen as they are totally on the same page as me (Thankgod!) as they want to see if theres issues elsewhere too before X-rays. Really high HR and her gums are pale.

Just waiting on results from bloods and scans and then we will decide if we proceed with X-rays.

It is good that they are taking your concern's (and Lucy's health) seriously, it sounds as though they are being very thorough. It is fortunate that Lucy has you being such a wonderful advocate for her; I hope that the investigations find something easily fixable, but I know how worrying it is when you have a beloved elderly dog x

No masses, tumors, lumps. Bloods have cleared kidneys as fine. She has some swelling around the spleen and liver is a bit congested but still working fine and no issues found in bloods. So it's a bit of a mystery so far

She's coming home tonight, and coming back for xrays which they will book in tomorrow morning as there's no concerns over sedating her for them currently.
