Burghley 2022 XC thread

Dropped his back legs in the middle of Cottesmore Leap and just looked flat. Commentators reckoned she could have got him home; and she'd gotten to the combo at the bottom of Winner's Avenue and was then stopped.

Its nice to see them pulling up riders for once. There’s definitely been a few others who’ve been given the benefit of the doubt imo as well

That certainly wasn't the prettiest of jumps, but the horse's expression was interesting wasn't it? Got far too close before he saw it, but as soon as he did, he was 100% game to try.

Does anyone there know what the ground is like and how solid it is?
Can’t help but wonder if that’s also affecting how people are riding
I’m here, ground is really good, firm but not solid, they are cutting into it. Entire track has sub-terrain irrigation as far as I’m aware.

Emma's horse should be pulled up.

can’t help but wonder if he’s overbitted or sore in his mouth. My own horse will fling her head up and is over reactive to a shorter rein contact, but she just doesn’t fling her head up like that to even the smallest correction and contact

31/52 completed.

Are the fields intentionally getting smaller? Feels like there’s lots of GB riders, and then a few Irish, Kiwis, Aussies and Americans this year. I miss seeing all the big name European riders round Burghley and Badminton. Hopefully they'll be back

Usually over 80 competing so a big drop this year.

Lots of horses have been saved/pulled out for Pratoni.

Last time there was a big American contingent but I don't think that's usual.

Brexit has caused problems for riders travelling between the mainland and here which might have put some of the European riders off. Same for Irish ones too.

As I posted on another thread:

Burghley 2019 - 67 starters
Burghley 2018 - 70 starters
Burghley 2017 - 61 starters

The Worlds are in two weeks time, and it's a pain in the arse and expensive to come from Europe hence lower entries imho.

I think Pippa's thoughts first things regarding pins and max dimensions is very much food for thought.
