Enjoyed the BBC2 coverage this afternoon. Remembered it wasn’t live to stayed off the internet! I’m glad Tim and Vitali had a better round than normal but I was definitely rooting for Ros overall and I’m pleased she won. Well deserved.

Oh no, absolutely not. I first met Ros 12/13yrs ago, when i think she was riding for Judy Bradwell, and she was on the (then) 2* European team, along with a client of mine, and she was amazing. Rode beautifully, soaked up information/instruction like a sponge, and was such a positive Team player, it was glaringly obvious she had a huge future ahead of her, but I dont think I could have predicted just how huge! She deserves every success.
Oh I agree, I was wrong. I think she’s a lovely team player too. I thought she was so positive and supportive in Tokyo despite not getting to ride Alby. And she’s not grumbled publicly about the penalties in Versailles. She’s got a lovely attitude.

(Judy Bradwell, there’s a name from the past. I did work experience with her decades ago while doing my AI).

If they show WFP's retirement ceremony please will you let us know? I am still miffed at the way Burghley TV cut off just as they started talking about Jackie Potts.

They didn’t show it I’m afraid, they did a few interviews, a few minutes of dressage, took us round the XC course digitally, showed about an hour of XC then something like the last 10 to jump.

I’m way behind and just started watching on BBC and LOL’ing that they don’t know who Emily King or Valmy Biats is 🤣🤣 I was thinking ‘gosh he does look chestnut in that light - sure he’s a more brown bay… then they zoom in on her face and it’s not her 🤣🤣

I was so pleased with the final placings apart from one and it was interesting that the afternoon showjumping had so many clear rounds within the time. It made me feel that the whole competition had been pitched correctly and generally the best riders and horses did well. Ros is so talented and rides beautifully, she makes everything look easy as she rides in such a lovely rhythm. Really pleased for Tim as well, he deserved a decent finish on Vitali but Harry was exceptional, he was so badly injured and it's wonderful to see him back on top form. I've watched Alex Bragg having dressage lessons, so sort of feel I know him, great to see him do so well. It's such a tough sport with so many disappointments I think we need to celebrate when competitions are as good as this and I certainly enjoyed the whole weekend, congrats to Burghley TV the coverage was great. I'm sure most will know about Saffron Cresswell's accident. Saffron used to keep her ponies locally and I often used to see her ride past, she's a lovely girl with so much talent. There will be fund raising events for her, please support if you can, she's 23 I think with hopefully a long life ahead of her but it probably won't be the one she hoped for. I have to admit whilst watching Burghley I thought about her a good deal.

We were lucky enough to be at Burghley since Friday
Highlights for me:
- Jesse Campbell doing so amazingly well, what an emotional situation
- Harry just pure class, making 3 XC rounds look effortless
- Tim riding so fantastically in the SJ, what amazing horsemanship and credit to him for sticking with Vitali through so many big disappointments
- LG just showing that he is absolutely the best all round event horse in the world, and Ros a true competitor.

Don't know if anyone watching on TV noticed, but she's clearly trying to work on Izilot's big atmosphere nerves- WFP rode him for the retirement ceremony and Harry for the prizegiving!

No, thanks for pointing that out. I think it's easy to forget how intimidating a big atmosphere can be for horses but with the right exposure most are able to cope with it. The atmosphere at Versailles was electric and I was willing the spectators to stay quiet when Carl came in with Fame but he coped so well and it was a testament to Carl's superb training. Caroline Chew's horse though has had much less exposure to the big atmosphere was so lit up he did 1xs down the centre line on entry and kept going but as the test progressed and she kept quietly riding him, you could see him relax and start to show his talent. tbh I do get a little cross when people criticise about a lack of relaxation, most of us wouldn't even manage to get our horses in the arena at really big events, let alone complete a test but I digress!

Was it Will Rawlin that was pulled up by the ground jury?

He's been given a FEI warning for abuse of horse - excessive pressing of a tired horse.
It was but there's no apparent reason for jury pulling him up. Horse appeared to be jumping well. OT is VERY quiet. Nothing in media about his miss. Really hope the mare is ok!

It’s interesting and difficult to comment as there was little coverage of him. He did make a short and professional statement, which eluded to the horse vetting well (incl heart rate) when pulled up.

BurghleyTV didn’t show a large chunk of his round before he was pulled up. I assume the GJ, armed with multiple live video feeds, made the right decision in the best interests of the horse.

Will Rawlin's post on Facebook:

William felt super round one of the toughest tracks in the world. For only his 2nd 5* he was straight, bold and dug deep the whole way round- we were on our minute markers, and had done all the straight routes
🙌🏻

Whilst I felt like he had plenty of running left in him with only 2 minutes to go, his style attracted the attention of the ground jury who made the decision that he should be pulled up. Having been assessed by the vet on course, they found his heart rate to be fine and in line with how he felt and there was more fuel in the tank.
Sadly though, being pulled up, meant we could not return to the competition. However disappointing, the sport is tough and we need to respect the decision of the ground jury and recognise they have to make these decisions in the moment to ensure safety of all horses, riders and to protect our sport.
The main thing is he’s finished happy, healthy and we can’t wait to be back in 2025

If Will Rawlin’s horse was apparently overly tired then the GJ was right to pull him up. It was a surprise to us watching on Burghley TV as we hadn’t seen much of them, and nothing of concern.

The GJ seemed much less bothered by those fast and chancy rounds which we did see and which didn’t get stopped 🤔.
