I was at the XC in person today and had a really great day. Got really good views of most of the fences and later in the afternoon watched the trout hatchery and the big screen under the shade!

I saw in person a few of the falls.

Richard Skelts was a weird one as he was going fine to the oxer and then on the last few strides chased and flapped him to it put the horse right off and crashed through it?!

Ros, her horse came in really strong to the first part which I don't think helped. Hit it quite hard so I'm surprised the pin didn't go.

Absolutely delighted with Wills Oakden's results, two in the top ten on the back of winning both the 3*L and 4*L at Blair last weekend! I'm sure anyone with Scottish eventing conections will have everything crossed for him tomorrow.

We have a very minor claim to his fame 😂 he comes to use our gallops quite often as part of his fittening regime with the horses.

Great to hear that Teneraze is OK - obviously won’t show jump but he will be fine

Really concerned that I can’t find any news about Toledo 😞
What is the news about Teneraze as I thought he was suffering from heat ataxia rather than lameness as he stopped very quickly and showed the same sort of behaviour I have seen in NH racehorses post race when overheated.

Tenereze is withdrawn, he is ok apparently but obviously won’t jump. Trot up at 9am
Fingers x everyone today please for my granddaughter in the Sports Pony Final in the Event Horse Ring. Qualified at PC Champs and a new competition for us so out of our comfort zone. A privilege to be there though!
Have a good watching day everyone.

watching on catchup so haven’t seen Harry Meade’s second round yet but wondering why he continued unless the horse didn’t feel lame. Also surprised he wasn’t pulled up by GJ, especially as the Zimbabwean rider was pulled up.

Really hoping for some news on Toledo soon, hoping no news is good news.

I was there yesterday, thoroughly enjoyed watching in person.
Ellie spent most of it running in circles and rolling down hills, petting every dog whose owner would let her and conning mummy and daddy out of yet another teddybear. She loved watching the horses go “Fast” and go “splash” as she put it.
She ran and ran all day and then on the final hill up to the car at the end of the day her steam ran out and she fell asleep on daddys shoulder at about 4.30pm. She slept right through until about 6am
We managed to get an amazing spot at the trout hatchery and the the maltings.

Having been there in person yesterday we had a great day, it was absolutely boiling but plenty of shade under leafy trees. :)
I must say the shopping seemed improved this year. Lots of lovely home stuff that was fairly affordable (by big show standards) so picked up a few bits.
Saw a lot of great riding, and some not so much.
Just watched the full video they posted of Tim’s round on the burghley Facebook page, wow that is one athletic horse piloted expertly, such a pleasure to watch.

I don’t know if anyone else who was there will agree, but the general vibes in the air of the crowd this year seemed really friendly and positive, with only a couple of encounters with rude people (one of whom was blowing vape clouds onto the course even when a horse was approaching/going past?!?!)

Great photos Conniegirl, been there with little ones. Small granddaughter watching at the trout hatchery when grey horse lost its ride and headed of loose back towards the stables. Oh dear, the tears, where has Pixie gone? Her little grey pony at home was called Pixie!
Just watched the horse inspection, horses looked great, small number to show jump this year though.
John Kyle said No withdrawn horse has a career ending injury.

Yes I agree, everyone was really friendly and positive. Only obnoxious one i met was at the end, a horrible stuck up couple in a new rangerover, sat in thier aircon vehicle right in the middle of the path back up, basically parked themselves across it and forced the flow of people to have to climb the steepest bit and made pushing a pram up an absolute nightmare.

Eugh, that is so frustrating and inconsiderate.
I must say I wanted to award hero status to everyone I saw getting pushchairs up the hills on course!!

This may just be my own observation, but I saw less dogs this year looking distressed in the heat. Also far less white jeans! Trends must be a-changin’ :)

Good luck!
Shame it isn't available to watch on Burghley TV.

Toledo wasn’t withdrawn though. I still feel worried. Really hoping all is ok.

Although apparently Luna Mist lost a shoe on course, so hopefully it’s just that she’s footsore or something simple.

anyone watching the jumping this morning? i’ll miss the afternoon session with work.

Harry Mutch has had a super Burghley this year - also showjumping bitless!

Really hoping for Toledo, also had the same thought about Luna Mist but if she’s lost a shoe might be feeling it today. Wish I was able to send my made to Tom, he seems to like forward. quirky horses (watching Luna Mist throw in a bit of a strop was like watching my own hehe)

Harry Meade now with Away Cruising. Love this horse
