Toledo wasn’t withdrawn though. I still feel worried. Really hoping all is ok.

Although apparently Luna Mist lost a shoe on course, so hopefully it’s just that she’s footsore or something simple.

Feels like they're (Burghley commentary) hoping nobody noticed, or has forgotten if they did.

At least Oli pulled up his horse yesterday when he tired, whereas Harry just kept pressing on 😬.

But Harry is charming, of course.

I’ll be interested to see if anything comes about from that by way of a card or warning. I wasn’t paying complete attention when watching, but the horse was clearly lame when he finished and surely Harry would have felt that.

Tiddlypom, Oli learnt a stiff lesson at Badminton! Such anger of his handling of Swallow there. Personally watching on tv, I didn’t notice anything wrong with Tenereze. I am not condoning that he should or shouldn’t have completed but I feel Harry must have had a reason .

He didn’t lose his canter- the horse clearly looked wrong to us watching, but he didn’t drop back to trot….. Harry would have been expecting to be riding a tired horse and probably just thought it was that. He was tired too, his adrenaline was up. I don’t think he would have felt it until he pulled up at the finish.

If I’m honest, from what I did see I didn’t notice a horse that looked very off until the finish. Can understand expecting the horse to be tired and thinking that’s all it was. If vets have said he’s okay then you’d assume it’s nothing major, maybe a lost shoe and horse feeling a bit footy but it’s not a good look for eventing to see a lame horse at the finish especially with the added pressure from animal rights groups sadly

I suspect Harry honestly thought the horse was just tiring. The horse had his adrenaline up so may not have felt lame at all until he started to pull up and trot at the end.

Harry doesn't strike me as the sort that would carry on regardless.

Many times I have watched horse racing and many times seen horrible injuries where the horse carries on because adrenaline. I once cared for a horse who had broken its back out hunting just after the fall and it got uo and wandered around like nothing had happened. We all thought blimey that's a relief, but luckily the vet who was out with the hunt had seen the fall and told the owner to take it to the equine hospital just in case. I took it in the trailer. it loaded fine

by the time I got it there it was unable to unload and fell out of the trailer and onto its side. the vets diagnosed it and it was PTS. But it wasn't at all obvious at the start. Even the vet out hunting was surprised when I reported back. He thought out might have damaged a leg which is why he'd sent it to hospital.

Also saw a horrible race from America a long time ago (I hate American racing on dirt. it causes so many injuries) where the horse broke a leg in the back straight. carried on racing. The pony man had to wrestle it to the ground. awful. But that adrenaline for you.

He was very clearly quite wrong after banking the slate mine. I thought it would be something awful, but it seems he got lucky and has hopefully just badly bruised both front feet or similar. His fetlocks looked dropped and he looked lame in both, but worse right fore. I guess they'll know more when they can scan him.

He doesn't need to be withdrawn - he retired on course

I’m also not the best at spotting lameness - I’ll tell you a sound horse is lame! and was half asleep watching this morning to be fair.

I’m assuming they’ve probably already done a preliminary exam and given him the okay for Harry to have already made a statement. Hopefully just some bruising, as you’ve said.

He carried the right fore for a couple of strides in the water, I too noticed the dropped fetlock approaching the finish.😟

Well yes, that was my point.

Anyway, I’m extremely happy to hear he’s home and will hopefully recover.

Caught up with the morning jumping. Didn’t take long! Not sure whether I’ll get to watch it live or not later, Sunday is my busiest day at the coffee box. The Tour of Britain passes through the nearby villages in half an hour, so it might be quieter so I can watch!

I don’t think a short clip of a horse being fed a carrot has ever left me quite so misty-eyed! 🥹 Here’s to a smooth recovery for both 🙏

It’s strange, but the thought of him being badly hurt or lost at Burghley really upset me. I guess because Rom is relatively young and has done so much with him. The way they set off round the course I’d had high hopes they’d be right up there.
Richard Skelt has posted that the horse is retired from 5* and will go back to just hunting with him, that 5* isn’t for them… interesting considering the comments on here

Kind of glad to read that. It wasn’t nice to watch. But kudos for getting that far with the horse. I couldn’t ride any sphere anywhere near that level.
