This is still less gobsmacking than the “nervous” “eventer” (who last completed a BE event in 2021, the year they entered 5 and completed 1, if their BE record is accurate) who wants a competitive grassroots horse, AND expects to be paid £550/month for the privilege.
I saw that but looks like the post has gone now??

I find that as soon as I apply my bmw analogy, it shows how ridiculous the whole thing is.

‘I want a bmw m3 for free, and not only that, I expect you to fuel it, and pay me every month to drive it whether I take it to a race or not. I’m an average driver, who last drove competitively 2 years ago and I never win’. The entitlement is baffling. I guess ‘I have some social media presence’ makes up for a heck of a lot, or something.

Then you find out some prat has actually given them the horse and the money and wonder what you’re doing wrong in your life!

The horse looks as if it is out hunting in a 3 ring gag snaffle but that's a pretty normal bit out hunting
Nobody is saying, I don't think, that the horse can be hunted by a novice, very few horses could. It doesn't mean that he isn't a very suitable horse for a novice to buy.

Lots of horses need a stronger bit for hunting, it's a very exciting activity.
Whoever mentioned hunting? How can you tell that's what its doing?
Pony in the picture is for sale as "a plod" . Currently being ridden by a 6 y.o. apparently. From memory about 13hh but advert has dropped down the list now.

Because hunting and some other activities are a massively exciting activity full of adrenalin! Not the right pic for the ad though probably!

I understand it’s an exciting activity but personally just wouldn’t advertise a horse who needed a bit like that for a novice as I wouldn’t trust them to use the bit correctly.
It is a difference of opinion
My mare has been ridden bitless for fun ride outs and xc (and yes she prances and does the trot walk but she still listens)
I’m sure if the hunting by me was safe she would be able to do that bitless as well so I would say she is 100% novice material and my 3yo is shaping up to be the same way

No I wouldn’t advertise her for a novice, I was simply replying to your question about why would you hunt in a stronger bit if they go well in a snaffle.

Well yes but I would say yours doesn’t go well in a snaffle out hunting. My point was this horse couldn’t be for a novice if they needed that bit. Situational context

Have to say i could take my lad out hunting in a snaffle. He is not suitable for a complete novice unless on the leadrein (where he will happily carry a squealing toddler). He can be a bit to forward IMO for a novice and there are too many buttons that a novice might accidentally press.

It looks like an early season or junior rider hunting picture to me. You wouldn't be showing in that bit, and you wouldn't be doing many other activities in that jacket.

A wise old man once said to me ‘there are fools, there are bloody fools, and there are people who hunt in snaffles’.

I took my fell pony out hunting for the first and only time in a loose ring, nueu schule comfort mouth snaffle. I usually rode him in a swales Pelham as he could be a number headed thug. My reasoning behind the snaffle was that if he was an idiot I didn't want him to lose respect for his Pelham 😂 I'd hunted plenty of the racehorses in simple snaffles so there should be no reason I couldn't do the same with my Fell 😂😂 I turned 4 circles in the first field, 5 in the next then he was knackered enough to enjoy 😂😂😂

I couldn't care less if she's wimpy or not. But I do think it's cheeky asking for £550 a month for schooling livery when she has no facilities other than a rock hard field, doesn't have a strong competition record and has happily admitted her horse that she only took eventing the other week (but admittedly retired) has been lame for 3 years?!

In her defense I don’t think horse has been hopping lame for 3 years. Sounds to me like it’s a reoccuring problem that has been treated and managed but keeps resurfacing.

The rest is questionable given the story behind her account but I also know how debilitating anxiety can be; I feel for her slightly. The £550 is slightly odd though!
