Are you defining full livery differently?

It typically means yard-

- Does full care of horse 7 days a week
- provides feed, hay, bedding,
- Exercise daily, groom and tack clean
- hold for vet, physio, farrier
- has decent riding facilities

Full livery round here doesn't normally include exercising the horse, tack cleaning or more than a quick brush and hoof pick.

Round here the above, minus the exercising/groom/tack clean, is full livery and will cost you £850-1050/month. 5-day livery = part. Exercising etc is extra.
 
Why would anyone want that?! How weird. As if your horse is a valet-parked car. I enjoy connecting with Lottie on the ground before getting on and I like to assess her reaction to being tacked up.

I’m on full livery which does include holding for farrier and routine vet visits, day to day care. So if I’m not riding I don’t need to go up. But does not include exercise, grooming or tack cleaning. They will bring her in for me to ride on request but I never request that. I’m not that lazy!

About twenty years ago, a friend kept her horse on a yard that offered the traditional full livery, complete with exercise. The owners were mostly extremely senior people in business and politics, who just wanted something to ride when they wanted to ride, rather than having a relationship with the horse.

What this meant was the horses were ridden by anybody and everybody. I used to borrow one to hack with my friend.

It was probably good for the horses to be ridden by numpties a few times a week, because their owners certainly weren't excellent riders. But, if I were the owner, I'd be horrified.

Back when I was 16( far to many years ago to put on here lol )I trained in a yard which was full livery and yes the owners rocked up and horse was ready and waiting for them to just mount. Every aspect of the horses care was done by us grooms. But it also meant us grooms got to exercise some lovely horses 😀

How far back are you talking? I was in full livery 40 years ago when it didn't mean exercising in most years and in one yard was exercise 3 days a week. Full exercise included and tacked up ready to get on was hunter livery.

It's just diffeent terms used in different areas. So it's important to clarify what is and is not included when you sign up for it.

The foal is by a stallion which stood last year at a well known Scottish stud.
The other foal being sold by the same seller is by a different stallion from the same stud.
They sold some in-foal mares in June last year.
I have contacted them.
 
This isn’t related to a specific ad and it’s not cheeky but I think it ridiculous. People who write their horse’s ad describing themselves as ‘mummy’. Or write it from the perspective of the horse - e.g. ‘I’m looking for a new mummy to love me’. I know there’s no harm in it but I don’t want a horse that has been mummied, or indeed one that can write an advert…

I saw a lot of this on yards near Richmond Park 20-25 years ago, they used to often turn up, and mount and then take business calls on their mobiles whilst riding round Richmond Park!!!

In South East, hunter livery involved hunters. Full livery was either you could disappear for weeks / months on end and horse would be fully looked after and kept fit. Or if you wanted horse was groomed, tacked up and handed to you at block to ride when you turned up.

Part could be 5 or 7 days, was all basics done for horse, excluding tack cleaning, grooming and exercising.

But I think anyone looking for livery will need to confirm what is included / excluded.

My local big yard, full livery is exercising 5 days a week, grooming daily, tack cleaning once a week.
 
I looked at a yard locally but it had limited turnout so I didn't go there. They described it as 5 day livery and part livery on the weekend so I asked what was included on the weekend: turnout, muck out, bring in, feed, feet picked, skip out. I was confused as this sounded like full livery to me. I asked what I'd get during the week. They groomed daily and exercised the horse to my specifications on top of the normal stuff!!!

I assume this version of full livery was because of the limited turnout. Lovely yard with excellent riders and grooms and it has had a lot of success in dressage spheres.

My current yard have just advertised spaces on our yard but the advert is ridiculous, not a reflection of the services we get as full livery.

But that’s not true. Thinking in particular of a few incidents recently- most recently the cat being thrown in to a river.

Years ago my job was looking after 5 full liveries I rode them on the days the owner didn't, on their days I groomed tacked up and handed them the horse then took it from them when they finished untacked brushed off or washed off.

It was literally like having 5 horses of your own that you got paid to look after and ride most owners only rode 3 or 4 times a week, one pony in my care was only really ridden by me I think I saw the owner about once a year.

Would be a good opportunity if they were being paid to do it!

I saw an ad the other day - someone wanting to loan out their 5 year old mare for a year because they were being…well…a 5 year old mare and a bit too feisty. So she wanted someone else to put up with the hormonal teenage stage, then hand it back once it turns six and becomes a nice easy ride again. Unsurprisingly, she got no takers!!!
 
One popped up the other day asking to loan a 150% bombproof ridden shetland for their autistic child. Pony must not bat an eyelid at anything on the ground or under saddle and must not be too old.

Did I mention they wanted it on loan? A pony like this is quite literally worth it's weight in gold and would certainly not be being given away.
