I guess I’ve burnt myself with straighteners quite a few times. I don’t think I’d want something that gets to that kind of temperatures so close to my horse for the sake of “looking good.” It’s not worth the risk to me but I’m really not competitive.

I wasn’t bashing showing or saying the horse was being abused, I just couldn’t fathom taking straightners to my horse.
I've stabbed myself with needles an awful lot but there's still a long standing tradition of sewing in plaits?

The name of the thread is cheeky/ridiculous things you’ve seen on Facebook. I saw a video of someone straightening their horses mane on Facebook and I thought how ridiculous. 🤷🏼‍♀️ if that’s your thing fair enough but it was a new one to me. I’d rather mine was out rolling in the dirt than getting hair straightened and makeup on.

I've been in the showing world all my life and never seen this (although I'm pretty oblivious to the world around me most of the time).

I can see that it would take the volume out of a fuzzy/fluffy mane and forelock like my section C, but I doubt he would stand still long enough for my to get through it all especially stood on the back of the lorry at a show. But rather than pulling to thin I can see this could be useful for turnout purposes - with a more sensible pony than mine.

It's all kicking off on my local dog Facebook page. There is a small rescue/and dog sitting business not far from me and apparently the place is riddled with parvo and according to some it's actually a front for puppy farming but the Facebook comments are insane from all sides. Threats of lawyers, police and a couple of assault accusations?

Full disclosure, but I didn't know they had a rehoming side to the business at all, after my regular sitter broke both her legs recently, and off the back of multiple positive reviews and a chat with the owner I booked Fodhla for a meet and greet there. When I got there they wanted me to leave her for a period of time, and wanted to take her off me at the door without seeing the premises. They informed me I couldn't come in because they had rescues in and I refused to leave her there, thanked her for her time and left. In contrast to my sitter who has a lovely family home and invites you in all the time, I got the heebie jeebies immediately, and the owner got all offended. I never would have arranged to leave her at a dog sitter with rescues as sounds chaotic and they told me they only take 4 dogs at a time (plus as it turns out God knows how many 'rescues').

Wouldn't be surprised if the allegations are true but the Facebook drama is completely unhinged.

Also featured on that page today is a woman who said she moved out of her mums house leaving her xl bully behind and her mum had it put to sleep.

This was on facebook on one of the conformation groups, with extra photos of him looking much more normal - and pointed out that his sire was known for it. It was an interesting discussion as someone also added their particularly downhill cob sometimes moving similarly.

In the grand scheme of people doing stuff to their animals to help win shows, straightening a mane is the least of my worries.
It's just for vanity and doesn't do any harm.

My biggest thing was I actually let my friend use my GHD strainers on her pony for a whole season of showing.

I then realised I could sell them on ebay for quite a bit of money and they were the original fixable ones.

So I cleaned them up and sold them 😅
