That’s a lot. I’ve got two rare breeds. So things can be a little close when looking in pedigrees but I cannot fathom why if you have the gene pool you would not use it. ((Also I have been lectured(mainly by Americans it seems) on the benefits of such breeding and I’ll never agree with it ))

The more I look at that poor mare the more I feel sorry for her. I hope the thread is going along the same lines as we are?

The owner is on that thread and is picking the horse up. They have also set up a go fund me.

I haven't had an aquarium for many years, and never owned spiders, but hypothetically, what if I had a bunch of guppies, or some tarantulas, would I need to have them castrated/spayed to come into consideration for being allowed to work for PETA?

I wasn’t sure what the ‘right’ answer was there; yes they are spayed (so no more pets being bred) or no they aren’t ( because the operation might be seen by PETA as cruel)

To be fair, the ad translates to: went XC schooling once to go over a ditch so we could say she's confident with them, popped 3 small fences in our arena one afternoon, and works into an outline long enough for us to film a 2 minute sales video of her.

Agree that it's not what I'd be doing with a rising 4 year but it doesn't mean she's been run into the ground.

Sadly that leg problem which is undoubtedly DSLD/ESPA will not be able to be sorted out. It's the result of a genetic defect and there is no treatment. I would guess she's in a significant amount of pain already and as the disease is progressive other legs / soft tissues can suffer the same fate. A caring owner would euthanise.

I have a smart 16.3 5 y/o who unfortunately sustained an injury in his facet joints from a freak accident a year ago. It took quite a while to find out exactly what was wrong as he didn’t show any signs of pain for a number of months. Long story short is that I’m looking to see if there is a market for anyone interested in buying a lovely horse for a fraction of what he’s worth due to his injury. I have been told by vets/physios etc… that he should be able to hack and lightly school, poles and maybe in the future with the correct strengthening and medication jump and do a bit more. I’m hesitant to sell him as I don’t want him ending up in the wrong hands and being sold on as he’s a sweet chap but equally I can’t afford to keep him when it’s just a long road of rehab and a certainty that he won’t be able to do the job I bought him for. He’s sound and has never been lame, even with his injury he’s only shows signs of discomfort when cantering by changing behind/bucking. He’s obviously a young horse not in much work so no novices, but that being said he is generally easy to do and when he was being ridden wasn’t fazed but days off and getting straight back on.

Very happy to go into detail with anyone who could be interested, thank you

I read that name as Double Fire Dump at first. Quite apt. That mare isn't just purebred, she's massively inbred and dropped fetlocks will become a mark of future Arabians if somebody carries on that line.

Elderly shetlands. Not looking for livery looking for a private yard to take care of ponies who've had lami in the past, will pay for feed and bedding, but basically want full livery without having to pay for it for their elderly companions. I really can't understand what the benefit for the new carer is meant to be? I wish people would take care of their own OAPs. Sure this ad says they want to visit and are at least expecting to contribute but yeah, like pay for full livery and be done with it. Or maybe I'm just a cynic. The first comment is to consider PTS which is getting some back lash but I sorta agree. Either pay for livery or ensure a peaceful passing for OAP Ponies. I know that's what I want when I'm an OAP.

One person ranting about how it costs £2k a month in the UK, no it doesn’t. My vet charges £22 a syringe, I work that out at about £600 for a full size horse.

They can buy ibuprofen and paracetamol cheaply because of the NHS and it’s private industry causing the price hike

A friend of mine has treated her horse twice with the omeprazole stuff from Abler in the past, if I remember correctly it was about £80 a pop (and was successful, the mare had had them previously so we knew the signs, and she hasn't had a recurrence for years). In a cost of living crisis where a lot of people are struggling I don't have an issue with people sourcing it from abroad as long as it means the animal gets treated.

the comments on their post are fabulous, it is clear that most have no idea how/why drug licencing is even a thing, why vets have to prescribe what they do etc etc.
