Feeling hot hot hot

Ah bless him. Mine not that bad, he has been in previous years but is now accepting the fact he needs to be creamed and lets me do it without too much of a battle. He does hate it though.
Have you tried warming it in your hands first? I know it’s not cold cold in this weather but mine still reacts to it straight out of the pot worse than if I warm it slightly in my hands first.
She hears the noise of it being warmed up in my hands and she hides at the back of the stable and does her best lllama impressions

Have you tried a treat cube before and two afterwards? (I put the latter two inbetween my teeth whilst putting cream on else get cream on edges of my pockets). Worked well for my friend's horse so you could put the cream on with him loose.

I am loving this weather! If it could just stay this way til October, that would be great!

Me too!

It's finally vest top & short weather and my tan is progressing nicely, sunny hacks are just the best thing ever, the grass isn't growing like crazy so much better for my native & I can drink wine on patio at 9/10pm at night. What's not to love?

It's still 29C here and tomorrow it will be 30C. I doubt I will get much sleep tonight either even with the fan on.

I feel sorry for the yard staff who have been working in the heat today. I am particularly heat intolerant but even people who are not might struggle in this heat.

I don't do heat, heat intolerance is part of acondition I have. We saw the long range forecast for July and spent premium bond winnings on two serious air conditioners. The OH put a big hole in the walls in two rooms so they are permanently set up instead of dangling hoses out of windows. We chilled the bedroom last night before we went up to bed and it was fabulous. I expect to be cooling the lounge tonight.
.

We have fired up the lounge air con for the first time, it's absolutely ace!

Absolutely boiling at the yard these evening so gave Bert a hose down and tail wash at 8pm. Checked the other horses and topped up any waters that needed doing.

YO does a late night check at around 10pm and will check waters again.

I think for me the not being able to sleep issue due to the heat and just sweating doing nothing is most unpleasant. It may well go over 30 tomorrow.

I think when it's heat and humidity, it's even worse. Not sure how humid it is over there. Putting a fan in a window, as far out as you can, does help. We used to put one out on our balcony pointed into our bedroom at night, and it made a huge difference.

Our house that we live in now has AC because it's just too hot not to. It was 41C when I got to the yard yesterday. The horses were in standing under fans, and we put them out later in the evening. The fields are full sun, with smaller shelters, so I think most prefer a stable with a fan during the hottest hours. I was dripping from the moment that I got out of my car! The horse's all seemed well enough. Some a little sweaty, but not distressingly so.

Managing animals in the heat is no fun. If you're not used to 30C, it probably feels blazing.

Baltic up here 🤣 send it our way. 13.5c when i was coming home tonight. Considered putting the heating on to help dry clothes as it chucked it down too.

What is this heat you speak of?

Even 20/21c would be most acceptable for me at the moment! We were in London 2 years ago when it hit 39/40c, that was interesting. I have no idea how we all survived. I remember we flew back that evening(somehow thankfully, as the airport tarmac had melted) and it was 20c back home. It was absolutely freezing!

Everyone has lovely quiet mini-fans for bedtime in our house now!

We do have a portable air con unit but haven’t rolled it out yet!

My body can't cope in high temperatures. Anything over 22/23 and I start flagging. I get very uncomfortable and have to choose clothing carefully. I suffered heatstroke at an early age so have been very aware of that since.

My old pony hated the heat so we either went out first thing or not at all!

Does anyone else just give up riding In this weather ? My boy is a cob , he has asthma and hay fever and everything is such an effort for him over 24. He comes in during the day and snoozes pretty much all day.

I have however discovered a full fly mask which fits for once and doesn’t get sweaty at all it’s the full premier equine buster mask highly recommend .

He is a complete pain to fit rugs too , everything fits till he’s moved then it slips back and cuts his shoulders. I’ve ordered the waldenhausen eczema rug and my fingers are crossed

If you are looking for a sunscreen that stays on really well I would recommend the gold label sun cream that comes in a tub as it’s quite solid and I find it stays on well.

Going to be 30C and already really hot. It is farrier day today at the yard today I feel sorry for the yard staff and farriers having to work in this heat. I have asked if the staff can hose Bert down today. I am hoping it is not going to be a boiling hot summer.

I'd sometimes get friends horses out of their stables when I got the yard after work and give them a hose down in the washbox to freshen them up.
I'd love to bring Lari in a do the same with him but alas he's miles away across the fields, I will do on Sunday when we visit as we have more time.

Blimey its so hot, thank God I am not working in my usual portacabin scenario, these shared office spaces are really nice and definitely cooler! I visited site yesterday to do some copying and scanning in and it was so hot in the portacabin I was dripping after five mins. Horrible.

I have to say I have one of those cooling towers sat on a little plastic step in the bedroom and that plus the blinds shut but window open really keeps me cool, I have no idea why, partner says its just circulating warm air but it never feels like that. Slept very well last night!

Because you are perspiring and the fan is causing the sweat to evaporate and that cools your skin.

You're welcome 😁

Very glad I am no longer working. The office I was in was built alongside the factory so windows on one side only and they faced SW so sun all day and no way to get a through draft. I used to have a fan under my desk blowing on my legs. Really don't miss those days.

I couldn't do an outside job as I would not be able to tolerate the warm days in the summer anything above 22 is problematic to me.

I expect these heatwaves are climate change and we may have to adapt our lives to work around it.

Yes unfortunately they are predicting milder but wetter winters and dry and scorching summers, neither of which are ideal for horse owners!
