For those actively looking to buy a horse - how hard is it now?

I have just put down a deposit on a pony today subject to vetting. Interesting my vet has recommended x-raying as he is 5 and he says for young horses it is more important as they have not done enough to know if they are going to up to work. For older horses who have been in work for years without problems less inclined to x-ray.

So happy for you, I hope that the vetting is a success :)

We are clearly all over excited about your horse search - come on Birker! We want to see you grinning on top of a equine mountain once again 😆
Aw thank you.

I haven't got over the last time yet 🤣🤣

Yay! This is excellent news S01. Fingers crossed for you 🤞

Brilliant news, hope the vetting & x-rays go well.

I've just checked my saved searches. None of the ones I'd favourited have sold, a couple a little reduced.

Interestingly a few new horses that look good but are very reasonably priced. I'm so suspicious!! Maybe the owners just need them rehomed quickly or want a choice of buyers.

Still not buying til September. Just finished painting the stable 😁

a friend of mine is looking, decent budget and getting increasingly frustrated. So if anyone knows of a 3-5yo oversized connie ( or of that type ) min 15.1. Must have a kind attitude., and located around the north west/ midland etc Let me know ;)

Im not sure what area she is in but she does seem to have overheight connies in on a regular basis with good reviews

I would look at Chloe Cashmore on FB. She produces them, has a few over heights and is very easy to deal with. I have seen a few that are really very nice but I decided I just couldn’t manage a youngster so bought a 9 year old 15.1 instead.

He looks great . I’ve sent that one to my friend 👍👍👍

I think the prices are easing off a little but they’re definitely not at pre-COVID levels and I don’t think they ever will be.

That said, if you’re willing to buy from Ireland there’s definitely a bargain to be had. I’ve just bought a 12YO, 17.3hh ISH with a 1.20M SJI record for €5,000 (about £4,500) from Goresbridge. It’s a risk buying unseen but he’s everything she said he was…and more! I wouldn’t have been able to get him here for even double (maybe even triple!) that amount.

I’ve bought 5 unseen from Ireland and never had an issue with any of them. But I appreciate it’s a big risk and perhaps I’ve just been lucky 🍀

I like this guy, lots of bone - even through the fat!

I also really like this one:

That cob, though! You’d spend your whole time trying to get weight off him.

I keep seeing cracking looking big ISH types at Goresbridge. I think I’d employ someone with more brain than me to go with me!

If they won't video call with you walk away. I don't know why people don't do this. Same with buying expensive tack and also when buyers are asking to buy. If they aren't trying to scam they will be happy to vc you.

I could video call from my house, but as thats not where the horse is wouldnt be much use.

The yard has barely enough signal to send a whatsapp text message, so its not that I wouldnt, its that I couldnt! Out of 3 yards Ive been on only one has had decent enough internet connectivity to do this.

Quite, yard at parents you'd have to stay close enough to the house for the wifi, my old DIY yard nothing at all complete mobile blackout, current yard some connectivity but not enough to video call. I don't think this can be unusual 😂
