Olympic Team Predictions

ooof i wouldn't want to be a selector - there have been way too many cracking performances to be able to separate them out....

for me it would be

1/ ros & lordships graffalo
2/ kitty & froggy
3/ yas & banzai
4/ tom & dubs (reserve)

I struggle to see a scenario in which London 52 doesn't miss too much work for fitness purposes... I can pick holes in everyone's form, but you can't deny that Kitty won Bramham 4*S very decisively, and Froggy can do a dressage test that will challenge the very best. Also hard to deny that Yas and Banzai have just topped an incredibly competitive Luhmuhlen 4*, finishing in front of Fischer Chipmunk decisively. And she's proved her ability to win at the top level as y'know, actively being world champion.

Oli may have already got the nod after Kentucky.

I'd go OT, Yaz, Ros. Kitty reserve just to put the cat amongst the pigeons.
I have no idea and I'm sure whoever makes the team will do us proud.

I am so happy for Lara to have won Luhmeulen. 🏆

I'm not convinced Oli would have had enough of a nod after Kentucky so not show the horse since, he isn't team golden boy and I'd imagine he would have to jump through selection hoops to be in contention (I thought the horse was super and very deserving of short list) - but everyone but Oli (even Ros and Walter who I personally would have given a free pass) has had to run a 4*S. I'm completely speculating here but my gut says either the mare picked up a niggle OR Oli is aware somehow that she isn't quite a consistently lower-mid 20's horse yet and he is therefore lower down the reserve list and him/owners not playing the game and saving her for Burghley. I might be wrong though!

I still have no idea on the team, other than Ros as a definite!

The horse hasn’t run since Kentucky, and with limited event options in the next four weeks (Olympic eventing starts five weeks on Saturday), I can’t see him being on the team. Would be arguably unfair on a younger horse to not run them April to July, then expect an Olympics/two sj rounds. Anyone know when Aachen entries are released?

It’s also potentially tight time wise for London 52 as well now, depending on the size/depth of the cut.

Apparently riders find out themselves this week with it being publicly announced next week (so say EN anyway!)

And Oli has now done a similar post. It’s as though they have been told to do a resume on social media for the selectors. (Joke!).

Or they've had the phone call to say it's not them...

ETS: I can't see Ollie's, only a share of a BEF post.

Oh I hope London doesn't miss out due to a small cut that would be sad as he deserves to be there IMO. Still voting for Ros Laura Kitty.

I cannot imagine Oliver’s horse would be in given it has not yet posted consistent sub thirty dressage scores at top level. And doesn’t seem to have done any prep events.

I’d rather not see London there over the others (or Jl Dublin) in some ways, even though Laura deserves it, I feel like Froggy and Walter are true xc horses.

London has won 3 5*s.. and starts super low generally SJs clean.

I know what he's won but... I don't think anyone thinks he'd have won badminton without that hold. But there's no denying his results and consitency.
Yeah. I think though as olympics are 4* XC should be perfect for him (although he did under perform at the last ones).
Such strength and depth in the UK atm it’s insane although they are all having to prove themselves so hard to get onto the team you have to wonder if that’s ideal..

Kitty Kings FB post definitely seems to be talking directly to the selecters!
Yep! It's a ballsy one - she was pretty outspoken in the past about being left behind (I can't remember if it was the last Olympics or a more recent champs but she said she was out to give an up yours to the selectors), and this seems to be a very public stating of the case so that they look nuts if they leave her on the bench. But as everyone keeps saying, we've got the strength in depth to send two pretty kick-ass teams! Exciting times!

Kitty was significantly faster at the Europeans (and didn’t have a 15pen for a missed flag) than Laura and we know that it will be a very similar style of track. I'm team Kitty all the way!
Agree Kitty definitely deserves a spot hope she gets it!

yeah I'm not a big London 52 fan - he was disappointing in the SJ at Tokyo, feel he wouldn't have won Badminton without the hold, and there have been the odd 15/20 pens on his record at championship occasions. He looks difficult to ride fast around a 4*, whereas Vendredi Biats strikes me as being more of a true 4* nippy horse than he is a 5* horse (although obviously has had some good results at 5*). I trust his SJ more too.

He bores me to watch XC as well but then maybe that’s how it should look 🤣 I love watching Froggy and Walter and Colorado Blue.

I’m glad you say that because I’ve never been convinced by him either. I don’t know why exactly as his record speaks for itself, but he leaves me cold

Isn’t selection out today? Woke up hoping for it to be posted- gah! Not sure why I’m so invested 😂

They've all gone very quiet. Either crying into their coffee or hungover after quaffing fizz.
Not sure we can compare Tokyo results to this year (London52). Paris is up the road in comparison to the journey to Japan.
Am now going Ros, Kitty, Tom with Laura reserve.

I think Ros, Kitty & Yas.
I can't decide between Laura & Tom as reserve but would love to see Emily King given that place (probably unlikely).
