Yes I have thought about getting something younger and found a rising 4yo I’m viewing next week just to keep my options open

Given that it seems no one actually knows the difference between dun and buckskin, including the OP who must have a dun, but seemingly means buckskin, Id guess it doesn't matter. But for the record, I've never known a bad dun horse or pony either, but have known some devil buckskins so maybe there is something in it!

IME, if you are interested, it is better to pick up the phone and talk to them. I then follow with a Wattsapp message so they can send video easily.

Often people are swamped with messages, most of which are from daydreamers. Plus, if I have sold a horse, I need to speak to the person to decide if they are the sort of person I would sell my horse to. I can't get that off a message so messages go further down the line.
 
We had 2 duns (or possibly buckskins - it was many years ago) who were complete saints
All the other ponies we had as kids were absolute buggers, especially the greys
 
I've known lots of nice duns and buckskins and I've never even heard them called yellow, never mind being evil. They were all nice horses and ponies. I have close friends who currently own 2 buckskins, a fairly recent reduction from 3, all good temperaments. I love both versions of that colouring.

this one’s owners sounds lovely but Horse not keen on jumping so a no go unfortunately but it has made me think about my budget …I’ll try and increase it somehow ?

We had a dun NF gelding on the riding school I spent my teenage years at and he was a genuinely lovely pony - he would've done PC very successfully if he hadn't already got a career. He was only about 13.1hh though, maybe it's different in ponies....

Definitely going grey and a bit far along to tell the base colour. Its not unusual to have a "dorsal stripe" appear as they change colour so that doesn't indicate dun.

You will find what you want within your budget. Sit tight and wait. A dun/buckskin is exactly what I wanted when I got back into horses after a long break. It took me a long time, but it was so worth it and it was a lifetime partnership.
