After watching the longer clip I have no doubt that it was the right thing for that horse to be PTS. I don't think his anger and aggression was his own fault but I do think he was beyond help.

It may well be true the horse should have been pts and earlier. That doesn't take away from what he was exposed to to provoke him!I dont think it really matters what he had an issue with!! He was a nasty spoilt piece of work that needed shooting, whether he had a problem with hats or not.
but the comments posted on the first video say that the horse wasnt PTS and is now running with a herd![]()
hand reared orphans are often the most difficult horses to handle and are usually riddled with issues.
Dont tar them all with the same brush I have an hand reared orphan (from 3 weeks) who is a fabulous eventing mare so trainable/eager to please, loves human contact/company, now 16yo, no issues![]()
actually i have rewatched the clips and read the comments but cant find the one i thought i read - lord knows where i read it then![]()

Well. No idea how everyone else interpreted that. I am no master horse analysis by any means! But I'd say it just looks like a spoiled child, wound up, lashed out. But that was some cracker!!
Maybe the fella was starved at birth- but my god.. somebody didn't assert there dominance at a very early stage. Horses are not puppies..
Wow slightly shocked.
Will be watching the thread!!
*adding* In all fairness, the horse warned him frequently that he was not in the mood for this **** but you would never expect that too happen... I mean you couldn't even do anything about that- even if you had a lunge whip, or item of protection. *SHOCKED FACE AGAIN*
*adding again* Just registered- the horse is palomino/cremello, are those horses not prone to having mental problems at times (from hearing people talk). Have seen a couple of people selling on there palominos (welsh D's and Welsh B cross) due to the horse just lashing out expectantly. Maybe coincidence, perhaps the breeding?
Maybe I'm a bit nieve, but I would be a bit annoyed if someone was chasing me with a sack! It looked like it just had enough and snapped... scary.
What did he expect? Fight or flight and the door closed to flight, so only leaves one other option.
the horse was obviously un-nerved and timid about the blanket thing being thrown at it, kept turning in as it didn't want this thing thrown over its back... Wouldn't have expected quite such a violent attack but could see that it was getting stressed and was a bit like self defense as far as i could see![]()
"I'm taking you to get stitches.....It's deep...we can see bone."![]()
That poor horse. It's like a stab in the heart when I hear people say "Just shoot it".
The only comfort I have is that horses don't know what having a gun pointed at them means.
My friend often says "Just shoot it" instead of PTS and I can not stand it. Have a heart.
I think there could have been many ways to help this poor little guy. Not saying that I could, but I'm sure someone could have.
It may well be that the best way to help this horse, IS to shoot it. To turn it away with a herd may well work, in the short term, particulalry if the issues do all arise from oxygen deprivation and hand rearing, rather than a genune temprement issue. However the first time it requires any sort of vetinary treatment, will have to be the last time it does. a quck death s often the best possible outcome for an animal. It may well be that with hindsight the foal should not have been resusitated in the first place.
It's just the way people say "Just shoot it" like it's some piece of rubbish to be thrown outIt really upsets me. When someone said that about Ned, if I hadn't been so shocked by it, I would have punched them square in the face.
If indeed it did have mental issues, it should never have been put in that situation, it should have been PTS much earlier![]()
...Hand reared horses are notorious for having behavioural problems. This is one of the reasons why it is so important to try to find foster mares for orphaned foals.
I know a very stupid person who purchased a shetland x farabella colt foal
and just because it was small & cute etc, they allowed it in the kitchen and house
It was treated as a dog / puppy - the little fella grew into a nasty little aggresive sod that took to attempting to smash the patio doors to gain access
It then attacked a neighbour who bravely bet it off with a shovel
When asked why the same individual didn't get the dam thing gelded they replied "oh he is too little to be gelded !!!"
It latter attacked a 16.3 point to pointer in an adjacent field who went through stud fencing to get away and ripped itself open on the pallings
all because a stupid *** brought the thing up like a pampered pouch
A double barrel to the head region would be the best thing imo
*FaLabella
* beat it off
* pooch
Do you not think the best thing would have been to not have treated it the way she did in the first place?
I of course bow to your masterly command of her Majestys english
I have a wonky keyboard at the moment so you will have to bear with me little full moon! Thank you!
What do you think!
Never good having a wonky keyboard!!
I think it would be best that people don't take little falabellas into their homes like dogs!!
PS - can I ask how on earth you have managed to get a wonky keyboard?!![]()
Agrred about falabellas....Dont get me started on their other equestrian charges....
Mug of tea + Keyboard +JRT + Postman (but dont ask for further details - just say the Keyboard and JRT are on the replace list...!)
It appears BB isn't the bloke in the first video doing the sacking, I'm now interested if he sanctioned it?
