I have AMD envy!! My loan horse is just about at the stage when a trip there would be beneficial. How's it working without catering? Are you still able to use the kitchen to make your own / heat stuff up or do you have to stay in your lorry?
You can use the kitchen, the fridge is on and there's microwave as well as an oven. Loads of hand sanitiser everywhere etc. If I could lsleep comfortably in my lorry I would happily stay over and I won't go in a shop ATM!
Lol *I * have AMD envy and I'm going on Thursday :p basically all the time I'm not there I want to be there!:cool:
I am going weekly ATM, miss the benefit of a back to back lesson but I hack Rose on TROT the next day and she is suitably knackered by the travel and lesson the day before that she's a complete donkey!

@j1ffy I occasionally slum it in my 3.5t box but I never get a good night and then always have a bad lesson. I’m currently staying in littledean which is working out well or there is a lovely shepherds hut even closer. The new neighbours are getting ready to have a couple of letting rooms.
Kitchen and showers etc are open and everyone is being sensible.
@milliepops i saw you on the list for Thursday and again I’m sorry to have missed another HHO’r.
Reckon we should get a “HHO does AMD” trip together!!

great idea! definitely be up for that. I usually go fortnightly but I'm only down the road so can flex anything to fit in with other people :)

We went to xc today! Buzz was a bit naughty to start, trying to nap back to the other horses if I took him away from them then trying to run back if they started cantering away but he settled eventually and jumped really well so I'm pleased. Even managed a couple of big scary jumps! I'll post some pics once i get sent some.

And I loaded him on my own!! There and back. He hesitated for a minute or two but then went on, probably about 5 mins total to load. So happy.

Not happy about leaving my bluetooth speaker plugged in and it draining my horsebox battery and having to get jump started by the owner of the xc course ? I'm an idiot haha

My first lesson went well, there was a lot going on there yesterday including the smell of cows from the weekend, so Amber had a little confidence wobble, trainer rode her through it really nicely and it provided an opportunity to work on her left lead lope which is the weaker one. Its nicely balanced just a bit quicker than we want, but to slower would require more power/muscle than is there yet, but its coming on nicely.
I hopped on and it was quieter outside but busy at the arena gate so just worked on keeping her between leg and hand and concentrating on me. I got it nicely for a while then lost it a bit when I got tired, then I ran out of leg and Amber ran out of puff :) It was a good reminder that she is only 4 and has lots of the world still to see and it was nice to see how she reacted to a new challenge and how easily she came through it with sympathetic riding.
I am now mulling over livery plans still as now I'm debating quiet yard so she can settle but then she might re-act more when we go elsewhere, or busy yard where there's more day to day challenges but then going away would be less of a shock. She is only 4 so currently leaning towards quiet yard with plans to expose her to new things gradually, I have transport so can do that easily enough. We'll see how we go over the summer too.

Did we decide the weekend finished on a Wednesday? Monday I took Rose for a lesson at AMD with justine Sole. I am getting a bit fitter but JS rode for the first 15 mins and then I did the rest of the lesson. It works really well and we are focusing on getting Rose lighter in front, using her back end more effectively so she is less tiring for me to ride. It makes her so much softer in her back too, so I was able to do some reasonable sitting trot, tapping her up behind to quicken her hind legs. Got some really good canter transitions too. Yesterday I went out on TROT again, feeling so much more relaxed about it and even trotted. Rose was so tired from her lesson the previous day that I had to wake her up to get a trot out of her. Today I very nearly tested the air jacket! Cantering down the long side into the corner Rose suddenly spooked, unbalanced me and she then put in a bit of a buck, probably hoping I'd go out the side door. I didn't but it was a close call. She was being looky from the moment I got on so tbh I wasn't surprised but it is the first time she's been silly since she came back into work after lockdown and she did do some nice work after that so she is forgiven.

Darcy went hacking tonight!
this may seem like an incredibly minor thing but last time we hacked (which was before christmas some time) I came home incredibly pleased to still be alive and deciding i rather enjoyed having all my arms and legs working, more than I needed to cross train a dumbass TB.

He bounced down the drive with his spine up my bum and I wished we didn't livery at the top of a hill with a slippery concrete drive to go down at the start of every hack... but settled fairly well and left his hacking buddy for dust as he's quite a keen bean.

Putting the draw reins on him was a genius move, it's been so useful for him to learn not to just hollow and charge off with me. when he got a bit lively I could just ask him to slow down and we made it home in one piece, him feeling utterly chuffed with himself at having discovered a whole new world. I think I did the right thing by pausing hacking as an activity because he was just becoming progressively more unsafe but I think(hope!!) he knows enough about giving way to the rider's wishes now that we might be able to carry on o_O

Can I do another little happy dance please?

Went for our 2nd solo outing last night and ventured for a 50 min hack which included the country park. If you had told me 2 months ago I would have done that I would have laughed at you and then quickly said "No... no way". He was such a good boy and as soon as we were in the woods he seemed to enjoy it even more.

Hopefully doing the same route in reverse tonight.

(I'm a little bit sorry about all of my chatting, but not enough to really care! J likes it!)

Its all I have ever wanted to do with a horse, go out and have some adventures.

Sometimes people have such strong opinions on "gadgets" especially draw reins but used properly and for the right reasons they can make such a difference. so pleased Darcy is starting to enjoy his hacking without too much exuberance!

That’s good to hear! I normally sleep in the lorry anyway but it hasn’t got comfy seating!

I’d be up for an HHO overnight - late August would suit me ?
