Totally agree with this.During my early days in equestrianism, UK society very much reflected the 'BHS way' which was solid IMHO. Now the BHS is reflecting what passes for equestrianism in todays society. Probably in an attempt to remain relevant and solvent.
Time to remind them of their mission statement
..... Our vision is for every horse to be respected, protected and enjoyed by knowledgeable, caring people...
Re the BHS reply to Catembi which I suppose is going out to everyone, an approach back would be to ask in general where exactly their boundaries lie and what levels of sanctions they might consider using and precisely what sanctions they have utilised in the past.
According to the fb post it has already gone to WHW.Please can someone repost the link to the original video and I will email WHW.
Not much transparency thereI had a reply this morning. See attachment. Vague on what they’ve actually done…
I'm the same. I think I'm going to cancelI am a member for third party liability only, so I’m not specifically in an insurance contract with them. Can I just cancel it with immediate effect and join a rival such as WHW or Harry Hall?
You could always submit a freedom of information request regarding the action taken.hi
well i got the same, and have emailed stating that I do not consider the matter closed in the slightest and what action have they actually taken.
I find it even more disturbing that they have sent me their BHS standard, of which the person involved has failed to comply with, so how is that supposed to help.
The pressure has to be kept up, then perhaps they may listen to the small people the members
Err…maybe not an auto-reply but I’m supposing people can write in again quoting the BHS reply and responding to it.You cant reply to the email.
I've seen dairy cows have the crap beaten out of them. Typically when they're young and still learning and not compliant or sore and kicking the milking machine off. Farmers who are short on time, exhausted, stressed about money, impatient, bad tempered, abusive etc. Animals then bear the brunt of it. It's harrowing and goes on behind closed doors largely. They do it because animals can't speak and can't tell anyone.I'm just thinking this over and I agree with the poster earlier who said it looks like she is losing her temper with the horse. I DO know that feeling, but on the rare occasion that it happens, I tend to just give up on whatever it was I was trying to achieve, end on a good note, and come back later when I've had time to think it through (and had a little scream of frustration by myself). I reckon most of us probably take a similar approach. However when producing the horse to do X Y Z is your job and livelihood, rather than just a hobby, it must be that much harder to just walk away. That isn't an excuse but I suppose I am actually starting to question the ethics of a system where the end goal is to get a horse to do X Y Z (whatever that might be).
I'm not sure a system in which money, reputation, and the ability to pay the bills, all rest on getting a horse to perform competitively, is one that sets trainers up to win. And the end result of that is that the horses bear the brunt of trainers' fear / frustration / worry etc. I really doubt that all these people go into horse sport because they love abusing horses - I think it's more likely that they're spectacularly failing (over time) to stand up to the pressure of the system they're working within. That doesn't excuse any one person's behaviour in the slightest, but I do think it raises a big question about whether the way horse sport operates is in fact ethical. And that's a much bigger and less clear-cut question that whether a woman beating up a horse is acceptable (because clearly it's not).
I hope that makes some kind of sense.
I don't think it would apply to them though? You could always submit a freedom of information request regarding the action taken.
Would you kindly post the statement as it's too obscure for me to find on the website or fb page, thanks.Looks like Anna Hilton has been removed from the BHS website as a coach. Public statement from
BHS is still obscure, but seems like her accreditation has been rescinded.
The one Catembi shared on this thread, follow up messages have been repeating the “we cannot comment on individual cases” spiel.Would you kindly post the statement as it's too obscure for me to find on the website or fb page, thanks.
Why?I don't think it would apply to them though?
Ah ok. I didn't realise that they had to be a public body for FOI.They’re not a public body
Just catching up on this.
To be fair to the BHS that is the kind of statement any company would put out investigating an employee. Bland and non specific until they've looked into the incident.
Hopefully though they will put out something more substantial in due course. I also hope trainers who act like this begin to realise it's career ending if caught on camera - so they stop.
