Keeping Horses fit in this weather

I'm lucky enough to keep my horse at work so she gets ridden every morning during the week. We school once a week and hack the other 6 days. One of those is canter work up and around our 400 acre downland farm. We are on chalk so we are pretty well draining although we are still wet. I...

Do people still use a twitch?

I use a twitch to finish clipping my bosses horses face and tickly bits it's much safer than heads and feet flying about. I have one with a metal link chain on as suggested by my vet who also has one which he uses if a situat warrants some calm butnot nnecessarily sedation. He said that he...

Are you a little OCD about your stable/yard routine?

I am not so much ocd but very anal about my stables. There has to be huge solid squared off banks, the floor needs to be swept to within an inch of it's life and the bed must be LAID not just pulled down. After fresh bedding goes in it needs to be flattened. It gets commented on that my beds...

    Advantages of sticky bum jods?

I have had some clarino sticky bums and had the same problem with the knees and fit. I then got some rugged horse full seat breeches and their simulated leather seat and they have all the benefits if clarino but stretch through the legs too

    Dog poo in horse field

It would concern me as I would think it would pile up after time. We have a different problem here where dog walkers dutifully pick up and bag their dogs doings but instead of taking the bags home they tie it to our fences or leave the bags somewhere obvious so someone else has to dispose of...

    Liverman Flare Trimmers

Would these be any good for tidying up face and ears on fine coated tb types? I can do the majority with my heavy duty clippers but they are large and cumbersome for those niggly hard to get in places and are quite noisy for doing ears. Would these be any good?

Chilblains, boots and self pity :(

I swear by my ariat grassmeres. Feet are toasty warm with just one layer of thin socks at the moment and I really suffer with the cold. I'm outside at the yard from 8.30-6.30 everyday and don't get cold feet. I have however found I have got 2 chilblains pop up on the outside of my thigh today...

A very wet but brilliant introduction to team chasing!!

Ahh I see I was going by your avatar location thingyme. Our journey to the Meynall was about 3.5/4 hours and it was a killer on the diesel. Cotswolds next Sunday then?

A very wet but brilliant introduction to team chasing!!

Thank you ironhorse. :) Sue where in east Sussex are you? We travel to all of them from Surrey and it's not as bad a journey as you think. The qualifier rosettes are lovely and are well worth the nerves ha ha. We didn't trouble the more established open teams but we all have to start...

    Research Project-Calling all Thoroughbred Owners!

I use a fixed ring single jointed bradoon for flat, Sj and hacking including our fast work but for team chasing I use a tom thumb as she ignores everything when we are running and I have brakes and steering with this.

A very wet but brilliant introduction to team chasing!!

It was a shame Sue. Both our novice teams were unplaced for going too fast, the top spec close shavers (the team I was on) had 2 horses who were open first timers and my horse and I first open too so we took it steady and completed with all 4 riders to come 7th but we did qualify for the...

A very wet but brilliant introduction to team chasing!!

Well done Sue!!! What a wet and horrible day it was. The pytchley novice was huge compared to some of the others and for a first go to come home with a frilly is brilliant. Glad you had a good day and I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you, I was also having a mental breakdown for most of the...

I'm finally having a go at teamchasing. Help!!

I echo everything said above. You will have a ball. A hipflask always comes in handy too!! If you see a big white police lorry come and say hi I will be there too. We have two horses in the novice and my bosses 2 horses in the open and my horse and I are doing our first open too! We...

    Team Chase 101

Hi OP sorry I completely forgot to take any pictures on Sunday but I thought I would point you in the direction of the team chase forum and the course walks on there. They are still a work in progress but it will give you an idea...
